Organolanthanide Compounds Containing Methanesulfonate and Pyrazinamide Ligand in Styrene Polymerization

The synthesis of organolanthanide compounds identified as LnCp^＊（MS）2PzA, Ln = Sm, Tb, Yb （MS = methanesulfonate, Cp^＊ = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, and PzA = pyrazinamide）, by the reaction of coordination compounds Ln（MS）3（PzA）4 with NaCp in THF was reported. The complexes were formulated according to elemental analyses, complexometric titration with EDTA （%Ln）, and ^1H NMR. IR spectroscopy revealed that PzA coordinates with lanthanide （Ⅲ） ions and methanesulfonate coordinates via oxygen atoms in a non-equivalent manner. In preliminary catalytic studies, these compounds were active in styrene polymerization that used MAO as a cocatalyst with an activity of 12.3 kg PS molSm^-1h^-1. Differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） of polystyrene showed that the polymer was mainly atactic.

Background: COVID-19 is a rapidly transmissible pneumonia-like illness caused by SARS-CoV-2 that out broke in China in 2019 and is currently circulating worldwide. In the current context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, complications are observed in clinical settings for the treatment of severe COVID-19 disease in nosocomial settings, due to cases of fungal co-infections. Objective: To carry out a review on fungal infections associated with respiratory infections caused by COVID-19 (Sars-Cov-2) and their aggravation. Methodology: The purpose of this study is to inform the reader about the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 and the main fungal species that are affecting patients undergoing treatment for severe COVID-19, provoking discussion of the importance of the proposed topic, in relation to co-infections by different fungal microorganisms. Result: 80 scientific studies were selected, resulting from patients with COVID-19 and most commonly observed in patients with a history of comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, kidney disease, severe liver disease, oncological diseases, obesity and with severe COVID-19. These data do not represent the total number of records of the disease in the world, but cases reported by researchers in their series, showing the overlapping of fungal co-infection through the compromised immune status due to the use of therapeutic drugs, dysregulation of the microbiota, age of patients and the severity itself of the severe inflammation caused by COVID-19. Conclusion: The immunosuppression caused by the infection of COVID-19 concomitant with its therapy through corticosteroid therapy and comorbidities of the patients made fungal infections more susceptible, and these interfere in the evolution of the case and in the treatment of COVID-19, being relevant to distinguish secondary infections to therapy and the best possible reconstitution of the clinical picture.

Histopathological Features of dental Pulp Tissue from Bleached Mandibular Incisors

Mandibular incisors scheduled for extraction were subjected or not to three 15-minute applications of a 35% hydrogen peroxide gel. Two days thereafter, bleaching effectiveness (according to a value-oriented shade guide) was evaluated, and histological analysis of pulp tissue was performed. Immediately and two days after bleaching, tooth sensitivity (TS) experience was recorded. Bleached teeth of both groups showed significant color improvement (Mann-Whitney; p derlying tertiary dentin deposition. It was concluded that, regardless of the age of patients, the application of a 35%-HP bleaching gel to mandibular incisors causes pulp damage, which was related to initial TS; however, superficial necrosis was more prevalent in young teeth.

The Optimization of Aspergillus sp.GM4 Tannase Production under Submerged Fermentation

Tannase is a hydrolytic enzyme that is involved in the biodegradation of tannins and it has biotechnological potential in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage industries. Microorganisms, especially filamentous fungi, are important tannase producers. The aims of this work were to find a potential tannase producer and to improve the cultivation conditions. Three Aspergillus species (A. japonicus 246A, A. tamarii 3 and Aspergillus sp. GM4) were investigated in different culture media (Adams, Czapeck, Khanna, M5 and Vogel) and inducers (1% and 2% tannic acid;1% green tea;1% methyl gallate;1% gallic acid). Aspergillus sp. GM4 and Adams medium were selected. The tannase production by Aspergillus sp. GM4 in Adams medium was induced in the presence of 2% (w/v) tannic acid and gallic acid as carbon sources, while green tea was not able to induce tannase production. The Plackett-Burman screening design was performed with the variables MgSO4, KH2PO4, yeast extract, tannic acid, agitation rate and salt solution. The variables MgSO4 and agitation rate were selected for the optimization of tannase production using a Central Composite Rotatable design. Under optimized conditions, a 2.66-fold increase in the enzyme production was observed with small modifications in the medium composition.

Assessment of Acute Episodes in Chronic Stable Angina: A Clinical-Laboratory Approach to the Use of the Coronary Vasodilator Propatyl Nitrate

Background/Objectives: Propatyl nitrate is a coronary vasodilator with immediate and prolonged action, indicated in the treatment and prevention of acute angina pectoris episodes. Methods: This was an open, self-paired comparative study performed at UNIFESO Medical School evaluating the clinical and laboratory results of treatment with propatyl nitrate in patients with chronic stable angina pectoris. Subjects received 10 mg of propatyl nitrate, at the dose of three sublingual tablets per day, to be taken at 8:00 A.M., 2:00 P.M., and 8:00 P.M. Subjects returned to the study center after 15 days of treatment for Visit 2 assessments, and at the end of the 30-day treatment period (Visit 3). Results: A total of 200 subjects were included in the study. There was a statistically significant reduction in blood pressure (p < 0.0001) and heart rate (p = 0.0001), but no change in respiratory rate (p = 0.23). Laboratory results did not vary throughout the treatment period. There was no significant change from pretreatment in the SAQ Physical Limitation scale (p = 0.7415). The Angina Stability, Angina Frequency, and Treatment Satisfaction, and Quality of Life scales showed a significant improvement from pretreatment (p < 0.0001). Adverse events were observed among 41 subjects at Visit 2 and 35 subjects at Visit 3. Conclusions: Propatyl nitrate was safe and effective in treating chronic stable angina pectoris over the course of the 30-day treatment period. Treatment with propatyl nitrate increased angina stability and reduced angina frequency while increasing treatment satisfaction and quality of life in the patient population evaluated.

全球尺度上的凋落物受气候,土壤特征和植被结构的影响,随着植被现存生物量的增加,从草地到森林的凋落物产量增加。然而,在景观尺度上,凋落物的产量与植被结构之间的相同关系却很少被研究,相邻的结构不同的群落之间凋落物格局的比较研究也比较缺乏。本研究使用一种标准化的方法来描述四种稀树草原地貌之间的结构差异,并分析了在巴西塞拉多保护区(Cerrado)中地貌与凋落物变化的关系。我们评估了平均分布在4个地貌的48个地点的木本植被结构和组成,并从2014年4月到2015年3月每月监测凋落物产量。研究结果表明,不同地貌的木本植被密度、断面积、柱状体积和地上生物量各不相同。地上生物量与年凋落物产量之间存在着很强的正相关关系,凋落物产量随植被结构的增加从0.9增加到8.4 Mg ha^(−1)。不同植被类型间的月产量具有季节性和相似性,旱季产量增加。叶组成显性部分(约85%)和凋落物的季节性主要是由于干旱月份落叶集中所致。然而,可能是随着植物群落中落叶物种丰度的减少,全年凋落物的时间格局显示出从开放植被类型到封闭植被类型的季节性逐渐减少。我们的研究结果表明,植被结构的变化可能会影响不同地貌凋落物的空间和时间分布格局,这些格局在整个塞拉多保护区景观中同时发生,可能对该生态系统的整体功能产生影响。此外,这些发现强调了使用标准化方法是正确比较不同环境中凋落物格局的必要条件。

In order to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Borago officinalis (900 mg borage oil capsules) in the treatment of patients presenting with cyclic mastalgia, 91 subjects were included in the study. Efficacy assessments were performed based on data obtained prior to the start of treatment (Pretreatment), and after each menstrual cycle (Assessment 2—following 45 days of treatment;and Assessment 3—at the end of the 90-day treatment period). Primary efficacy measures considered the results of the Mastalgia Questionnaire, including a 100 mm visual analog pain scale assessing mean, most intense mastalgia severity, and impact on work, sleep, and sexual activity. Safety and tolerability measures included any changes in vital signs and physical exam in relation to pretreatment, any changes in clinical laboratory exams in relation to pretreatment, and the occurrence of adverse events after the first dose of study medication. Various mouse models to study dengue have been described by different authors, some of them using immunodeficient or some using humanized mice. Our group reported previously a deadly murine model, which used the intracranial inoculum of highly virulent dengue virus (deNV) in immune competent mouse. Here we present a model of immune competent mouse (C57BL/6), infected subcutaneously by the same highly virulent deNV (deNV3 genotype I). In this immunocompetent systemic mice model, the cytokine levels and hematological parameters such as total and differential leukocyte and platelets counts, together with weight loss, were considered important monitoring parameters, allowing a better understanding of the systemic human disease. Mice were inoculated subcutaneously and evaluated by the percentage weight variation as well as the clinical signs. Hematological parameters and cytokines levels were measured and viral titration in brain tissue or serum neutralization was performed to confirm mice infection. The subcutaneously deNV inoculated mice showed weight loss after infection, but they did not show any other clinical signs. The leukocytes and platelets decreased after subcutaneous inoculation. The cytokines TNF alpha and IFN gamma increased after infection in mice. The subcutaneous model provided scope for improved understanding of the dengue pathogenesis, as well as possible mechanism for protection to subsequent mouse infected by intracranial route in mice. This model could be used to study the vertebrate immune response and evaluation of drugs or vaccine against dengue virus.

Ex-Patients with COVID-19: Observations after Healing and Its Consequences*

During the SARS-Cov-2 or COVID-19 clinical course pandemic of the coronavirus family, we observed symptoms of the respiratory tract, fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue. The most common symptoms were loss of smell and taste and, when aggravated, it could develop into pneumonia and even death. We selected 40 former COVID-19 patients, who answered a questionnaire with questions about the symptoms and complications after they were cured and which symptoms remained or appeared after the total isolation quarantine for a specific time. Among the answers, the most cited was about “forgetting”. Another observation noted was the number of cases in children, which surprised us, considering that, at the beginning of the pandemic, the danger was more related to the elderly population and those with comorbidities.
