For the first time, a.highly crysta.line porous shish-keba. structure with a.high degree of crysta.linity wa. obta.ned by using a.combina.ion of two methods for the forma.ion of porous polymeric ma.eria.s. a.trea.ment procedure using supercritica. ca.bon dioxide(sc CO_(2))wa. ca.ried out for oriented ultra.igh molecula. weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) films, which provided specia. conditions for the crysta.liza.ion of dissolved UHMWPE ma.romolecules on the surfa.e of oriented UHMWPE crysta.s. The prepa.ed porous ma.eria.s were investiga.ed by sca.ning electron microscopy(SEM) a.d differentia. sca.ning ca.orimetry(DSC). The pa.ticula.ity of the obta.ned porous shish-keba. is the a.sence of the a.orphous pha.e between la.ella. crysta.s(keba.s). The obta.ned pores ha. a. ova. sha.e, a.d they were oriented in the orienta.ion direction of the UHMWPE ma.romolecules. The pore size ra.ged from 0.05 μm to 4 μm. Controlling the conditions for the crysta.liza.ion of the UHMWPE ma.romolecules using supercritica. CO_(2) gives the possibility to control the size of both la.ella. disks a.d pores formed.

La.e Chiemsee in Ba.a.ia. southea.tern Germa.y ha. been investiga.ed using optica. a.d a.omic force microscopy, X-ra. fluorescence spectroscopy, sca.ning a.d tra.smission electron microscopy, high-resolution Ra.a. spectroscopy, X-ra. diffra.tion a.d differentia. therma. a.a.ysis, a. well a. by δ13 C a.d 14 C ra.ioca.bon isotopic da.a.a.a.ysis. In the pumice-like fra.ments, poorly ordered ca.bon ma.ter co-exists with high-ordering monocrysta.line α-ca.byne, a.d conta.ns submicrometersized inclusions of complex composition. Dia.ond a.d ca.byne a.d to the peculia. mix of ma.ter. The required very high tempera.ures a.d pressures for ca.byne forma.ion point to a.shock event proba.ly from the recently proposed Holocene Chiemga. meteorite impa.t. The ca.bon ma.eria. is suggested to ha.e la.gely formed from hea.ily shocked coa., vegeta.ion like wood, a.d pea. from the impa.t ta.get a.ea. The ca.boniza.ion/coa.ifica.ion high PT process ma. be a.tributed to a.strong shock tha. insta.ta.eously ca.sed the complete eva.ora.ion a.d loss of vola.ile ma.ter a.d wa.er, which nevertheless preserved the origina. cellula. structure seen fossilized in ma.y fra.ments. Rela.ively fresh wood enca.sula.ed in the purported strongly shocked ma.ter point to quenched ca.bon melt components possibly importa.t for the discussion of surviva. of orga.ic ma.ter in meteorite impa.ts, implying a. a.trobiologica. rela.ionship.

Electro–optic response in thin smectic C* film with chevron structures

The effects in electrosta.ic models of chevron surfa.e-sta.ilized ferroelectric liquid crysta.s a.e investiga.ed through numerica. modeling. To study smectic C＊ director distribution within the cell, we consider two nonlinea. a.proa.hes： the chevron interfa.e does not interpla. with the electric field; the electric field interpla.s with the chevron interfa.e. The obta.ned results of the director field distribution a.e compa.ed with the ea.lier linea.ized studies. We find tha. whether or not the electric field interpla.s with the chevron interfa.e, the electro-optic response requires a.genera.ized a.proa.h for its description. The threshold electric field, which is necessa.y for switching between two sta.le director sta.es in the chevron cell is eva.ua.ed. This study suggests tha., in ma.y ca.es of pra.tica. interest, electro-optic response to the electric field a.d the threshold electric field ca. be precisely estima.ed. We a.gue tha., beside being numerica.ly efficient, our a.proa.h provides a.convenient a.d a.novel sta.dpoint for looking a. the electro-optic response problem.

In the first pollution scena.io, the oil product wa. introduced into wet river sa.d, a.d in the second ca.e, dry sa.d wa. conta.ina.ed by the oil product a.d wa. then moistened with wa.er. By considering these two scena.ios a. multicomponent dispersion systems with va.ying degrees of conta.ina.ion a.d humidity, a.d by using a.polystructura. gra.ula. model with pore spa.es a.d closed inclusions, we ca.cula.ed tha. the hea. conductivity of the sa.dy soil increa.ed under the first pollution scena.io a.d decrea.ed under the second, but the cha.ge in the volumetric hea. ca.a.ity of the sa.dy soil wa. proportiona. only to the a.ount of oil pollution, not the ma.ner in which it wa. introduced. We a.so determined the tempera.ure dependencies of these two thermophysica. properties of sa.dy soil when polluted by oil, of which informa.ion will be useful for future conta.nment a.d remedia.ion of oil-conta.ina.ed soil.
