Although much has been learned about the fibrillization kinetics, structure and toxicity of amyloid proteins, the properties of amyloid fibrils beyond the saturation phase are often perceived as chemically and biologically inert, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. To fill this knowledge gap, we examined the physical and biological characteristics of human islet amyloid polypeptide(IAPP) fibrils that were aged up to two months. Not only did aging decrease the toxicity of IAPP fibrils, but the fibrils also sequestered fresh IAPP and suppressed their toxicity in an embryonic zebrafish model. The mechanical properties of IAPP fibrils in different aging stages were probed by atomic force microscopy and sonication, which displayed comparable stiffness but age-dependent fragmentation, followed by self-assembly of such fragments into the largest lamellar amyloid structures reported to date. The dynamic structural and toxicity profiles of amyloid fibrils and plaques suggest that they play active, long-term roles in cell degeneration and may be a therapeutic target for amyloid diseases.

The paper presents the results of studying graphite plastics based on heat-resistant polyamide by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), as well as the determination of mechanisms and kinetic parameters by the Koats-Redfern method. Based on the results of the thermal analysis, the mechanisms and kinetic parameters of the thermal destruction process were determined, namely: graphite injection increases the heat resistance of graphite plastics by 2 (graphite content 10% by weight) - 22% (graphite content 50% by weight) and reduces the activation energy of the process thermal destruction almost 2 times. This makes it possible to improve the technological parameters for the production of polymeric composite materials, which are limited by a narrow interval between the flow temperatures and the thermal destruction of phenylone C-2.

Glucose metabolism is essential for heart physiology, especially in ischemic conditions. Anaerobic glycolysis participates along with aerobic fatty acid oxidation in generating energy supply, and the balance is shifted towards fatty acids. In the case of aerobic path restriction due to coronary artery disease (CAD), this ratio changes. The aim of the present research was to discover the aspects of glycolysis in cardiac electrophysiology.?We utilized the normalized (by average value) T wave amplitude deviation values, named the G criterion,?from high-resolution, 12-channel, 120-seconds-long electrocardiograms,?which were obtained using DACG technology. The calculated G criterion allows a quantitative assessment of the ischemic process and corresponds to the functional class (FC) according to the Canadian cardiovascular classification. We examined 22 healthy people and 79 proven CAD patients: 24 II FC, 40 III FC and 15 IV FC by original ECG and fasting blood sugar tests. A strong correlation was found between the average G criterion from all 12 channels and the level of fasting blood sugar (r = +0.88). In the control group, blood sugar levels were 91 ± 6.5 mg/dl, II FC 103 ± 14.8 mg/dl (p < 0.01), III FC 113 ± 23.4 mg/dl (p < 0.001), and IV FC 152 ± 42.4 (p < 0.001). Moreover, the correlation factor (average G criterion and blood sugar) was strong and positive in each group: control +0.72, II FC +0.83, III FC +0.76, and IV FC +0.89. For the first time, heart electrical activity from the ECG curve was associated with high glucose level as one of the main CAD risk factors. The presence of such dependence of increased blood sugar level from the severity of the ischemic process in the myocardium indicates that hyperglycemic reaction is adaptive and can accelerate the anaerobic glycolysis for energy demand compensation in heart muscle.

Popularization of lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs) is still hindered by shuttle effect and volume ***, a new modularized sulfur storage strategy is proposed to solve above problems and accomplished via employing 100% space utilization host material of cobalt loaded carbon nanoparticles derived from ZIF-67. The modular dispersed storage of sulfur not only greatly increases the proportion of active sulfur,but also inhibits the occurrence of volume expansion. Meanwhile, 100% space utilization host material can greatly improve the conductivity of the cathode, provide a larger electrolyte wetting interface and effectively suppress the shuttle effect. Moreover, loaded cobalt particles have high catalytic activity for electrochemical reaction and can effectively improve the redox kinetics. The cell with new cathode host material carbonized at 650 ℃(ZIF-67(650 ℃)) exhibits superior rate performance and can maintain a high specific capacity of 950 m Ah/g after 100 cycles at 0.2 C, showing a good cycle stability.

Reconstruction of the Indigenous Sources of Gold of the Glu-Kharinsky Placer (Kolyma River Basin, Magadan Region, Russia)

A comparative analysis of typomorphic features of gold placers and indigenous sources of gold was carried out for the Glukharinsky ore-placer node (the Nadezhda deposit and Glukharinskoye, Tyomnoye, and Tyi-Jurye ore occurrences). A correlation between fineness of placer native gold and composition of relic minerals preserved inside gold particles was obtained for the first time. This made it possible to establish mineral parageneses of native gold from potential indigenous sources. The study of placer gold fineness in combination with com-position of mineral inclusions allowed us to identify seven types of gold paragenesis: petzite-hessite with a fineness of 855‰, pyrite-polybasite-galena (a fineness of 670‰), bismuth telluride (900‰), cosalite-vikingite (790‰), galena (870‰), glaucodot (950‰), and hydrohematite (840‰). It was also shown that the placer contains the material from ore occurrences of different formation: gold-quartz-porphyry occurrences in granitoids (Au-Te-Bi type) and gold-silver occurrences. The method developed by us allows one to estimate the percentage of each ore source in placer formation.

Physical-Chemical Aggressiveness of Solutions of Medicines as a Factor in the Rheology of the Blood inside Veins and Catheters

In experiments in vitro and observations in the clinic in vivo studied the state of the lumen of subcutaneous veins and blood rheology of patients after their interaction with vascular catheters and solutions of medicines based on the values of temperature, volume, concentration, osmotic activity and pH. It is shown that heparin injection in blood not prevent, but solution of 4% sodium bicarbonate injection prevents blood clotting, blood clots and blockage blood clots of veins and of catheters. It is shown that the heating to a temperature of＋42 ℃ with the solution of 4% sodium bicarbonate provides softening action on old dry blood clots in 1 min, and their subsequent irrigation with a warm solution of 4% sodium bicarbonate and 3% hydrogen peroxide provides complete destruction and discoloration of the remaining spots of blood during 2 s. Proposed new medicines and hygiene products for the protection of the veins and installed in them vascular catheters from blockage of blood clots, and for removing blood stains from clothes and body surface patients.

When building an adaptive noise cancellation system for wideband acoustic signals, one can meet some difficulties in practical implementation of such a system. The major problem is related to the necessity of using real-time signal generation and processing. In this paper the active noise control system which utilizes adaptation in frequency domain is considered. It is shown that the proposed algorithms simplify practical implementation of a noise cancellation system. The results of computer simulations and prototype experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed methods. .
