Sharing sensitive data is a specific challenge for research infrastructures in the field of life sciences. For that reason a toolbox has been developed, providing resources for researchers who wish to share and use sensitive data, to support the workflows for handling these kinds of digital objects. Common and community approved annotations are required to be compliant with FAIR principles(Findability, Accessibility,Interoperability, Reusability). The toolbox makes use of a tagging(categorisation) system, allowing consistent labelling and categorisation of digital objects, in terms relevant to data sharing tasks and activities. A pilot study was performed within the Horizon 2020 project EOSC-Life, in which 2 experts from 6 life sciences research infrastructures were recruited to independently assign tags to the same set of 10 to 25 resources related to sensitive data management and data sharing(in total 110). Summary statistics of agreement and observer variation per research infrastructure are provided. The pilot study has shown that experts were able to attribute tags but in most cases with a considerable observer variation between experts. In the context of CWFR(canonical Workflow Frameworks for Research), this indicates the necessity for careful definition,evaluation and validation of parameters and processes related to workflow descriptions. The results from this pilot study were used to tackle this issue by revising the categorisation system and providing an updated version.

A model for the definition of electrical Power is presented, which retrieves the concepts of homomorphism from the geometrical tensor approximation at the wavelet approach. Their definition here is nevertheless different in that it considers both tensor algebra and wavelet operators, solving thus most of the problems usually associated with the numerical methods.

Background:School-based deworming is widely implemented in various countries to reduce the burden of soil-transmitted helminths(STHs),however,the frequency of drug administration varies in different *** this study,we compared the impact of a single annual treatment and 4-monthly treatment over a follow-up among Kenyan school children,and investigated the factors associated with residual ***:We performed a secondary analysis of data from a randomized trial investigating whether deworming for STHs alters risk of acquiring *** received either a single treatment or 4-monthly albendazole treatments were followed longitudinally from February 2014 to October *** relative impact of treatment and factors associated with residual infections were investigated using mixed-effects regression *** to infection was assessed based on Spearman’s rank and Kendall’s Tau correlation ***:In the 4-monthly treatment group,the proportion of children infected with hookworm decreased from 59.9 to 5.7%,while Ascaris lumbricoides infections dropped from 55.7 to 6.2%.In the single treatment group,hookworm infections decreased over the same time period from 58.7 to 18.3%(12.6%absolute difference in reduction,95%CI:8.9-16.3%),and *** from 56.7 to 23.3%(17.1%absolute difference in reduction,95%CI:13.1-21.1%).There was strong evidence for predisposition to both STH *** hookworm infection among children on 4-monthly treatment were associated with male sex and baseline nutritional status,whereas *** infection was associated with individual and school-level infection at baseline,latrine cleanliness at ***:This study found that 4-monthly treatment w more effective than single annual *** treatments led to dramatic reductions in the intensities of STHs,but did not completely clear infections among school children in Kenya,a presumed reflection of reinfection in a setti

Assemblages of <i>Giardia duodenalis</i>Isolates from Dogs by Amplification and Restriction of tpi and <i>β</i>-Giardin Genes and Sequencing of SSU rDNA Gene

Giardia duodenalis exhibits seven assemblages (A-G) that are distributed in different hosts. The A and B assemblages are commonly found in humans and several mammals, while C and D assemblages are typically found in dogs. The purpose of this study was to determine the assemblage of Giardia duodenalis present in the stool samples of ten canines using an assay based on PCR amplification, restriction analysis, and sequencing of the small subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU-rDNA), β-giardin, and triosephosphate isomerase (tpi) genes in order to establish the similarities or differences between the assemblage obtained with each gene. The results indicated that all positive isolates belonged to assemblage A, and specifically to the sub-assemblage A-I. A comparison of the SSU-rDNA gene sequence revealed the presence of three subgroups of assemblage A. These findings highlight the importance of canine transmission of Giardia in Mexico and its genetic plasticity. They also establish a method for additional and more molecularly extensive epidemiological studies to improve sanitation and hygiene in the most affected areas.

Effect of Diet Supplementation with Combinations of Soybean and Linseed Oils on Milk Production and Fatty Acid Profile in Lactating Dairy Ewes

Thirty-six Pampinta ewes were used in a completely randomized design to examine the effectiveness of soybean (SO) and linseed (LO) oils to reduce the concentration of the atherogenic fatty acids (FA) of milk (C12:0 to C16:0) and increase the content of conjugated linoleic (cis-9, trans-11 C18:2) also called rumenic acid (RA) and vaccenic acids (trans-11C18:1, VA). Six ewes per treatment received a Control diet alone (71% alfalfa hay and 29% concentrate) or supplemented (0.24 kg/ewe·day) with pure oils (SO100 or LO100) or their blend at (%) SO75-LO25, SO50-LO50 and SO25-LO75. Milk yield, milk fat content and milk fat secretion were not affected. Milk protein content resulted higher in SO75-LO25, SO50-LO50 and SO25-LO75 without changes in milk protein yield. Total solid content of milk tended (p p p < 0.001) by oils reaching a minimum value of 1.89 in LO100. Feeding polyunsaturated oils at 7% of total dry matter (DM) intake did not affect the productive response of dairy ewes resulting in an effective tool to improve the healthy value of milk fat. The SO50-LO50 blend showed the highest number of healthy changes in milk FA composition.

The Transcervical Extended Access, a Feasible Approach for the Surgical Treatment of Benign Tumors of the Posterior Mediastinum?

Transcervical approach for tumors of the posterior mediastinum is traditionally thought not to be indicated. Hereby we report on a case of a patient with a huge neurogenic tumor of the posterior mediastinum which was successfully excised through a transcervical extended approach and, additionally, the variety of surgical approaches used to remove tumors of the posterior mediastinum is discussed. The new refined techniques of transcervical extended mediastinal operations, which are recently gaining popularity among surgeons, allowed for a safe dissection of the tumor, thus patient could benefit from a short painless postoperative course. The authors suggest that surgeons trained in these particular techniques should consider the choice of the transcervical extended access in selected cases of benign tumors of the posterior mediastinum.

Damage control orthopaedics: State of the art

Damage control orthopaedics(DCO) originally consisted of the provisional immobilisation of long bone-mainly femur-fractures in order to achieve the advantages of early treatment and to minimise the risk of complications, such as major pain, fat embolism, clotting, pathological inflammatory response, severe haemorrhage triggering the lethal triad, and the traumatic effects of major surgery on a patient who is already traumatised(the "second hit" effect). In recent years, new locations have been added to the DCO concept, such as injuries to the pelvis, spine and upper limbs. Nonetheless, this concept has not yet been validated in well-designed prospective studies, and much controversy ***, some researchers believe the indiscriminate application of DCO might be harmful and produce substantial and unnecessary expense. In this respect, too,normalised parameters associated with the acid-base system have been proposed,under a concept termed early appropriate care, in the view that this would enable patients to receive major surgical procedures in an approach offering the advantages of early total care together with the apparent safety of DCO. This paper discusses the diagnosis and treatment of severely traumatised patients managed in accordance with DCO and highlights the possible drawbacks of this treatment principle.
