The Hepatoprotective Effects of Solanum Incanum on Acetaminophen-lnduced Hepatotoxicity in Guinea Pigs

Solanum incanum, a shrubby herb, is widely distributed and used as analgesic, antitoxic, and antispasmodic in folk medicine. In the present study, the protective effects of aqueous extract of S. incanum against acetaminophen induced acute liver damage were evaluated in guinea pigs. Animals were orally administered with S. incanum extract （50 and 100 mg/ kg bw） and silymarin （ 100 mg / kg bw） respectively for 6 days followed by acetaminophen administration （2 g / kg bw） at the 7th day. The results showed that the treatment with S. incanum extract significantly lowered the acetaminophen-induced serum levels of hepatic marker enzymes （AST, alT, and alP）, Liver histopathology also showed that S. incanum extract reduced the incidence of liver lesions including the swelling of hepatic cells, lymphocytes infiltration, nucleus condensation, and hepatic necrosis induced by acetaminophen treatment in guinea pigs. The S. incanum extract at a dose of 100 mg / kg bw was more effective in suppressing the oxidative damage than the extract at a dose of 50 mg / kg bw. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that S. incanum extract could protect liver against the acetaminophen-induced oxidative damage.

Introduction: The exhaustion of healthcare resources due to the rising prevalence in Saudi Arabia mandates the search for each method that can help in better control of diabetes. Methods: The gathered task force gath-ered to develop an explicit, evidence-based consensus for the use of time-in-range targets as guidance for better glycemic control while using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). This article has the recommenda-tions of this expert panel. Results: HbA1c and self-monitoring blood glu-cose (SMBG) are not enough to detect blood glucose (BG) fluctuations on a daily basis. The incorporation of technology like FreeStyle Libre with its applications like Libre View is now used in many institutes in Saudi Ara-bia. This system is comprehensive and has all the standardized metrics needed. However, training and support are always needed. Barriers and challenges include the awareness & experience of the technology, the time barrier, the patients’ barriers, the technical barriers, and of course, the availability barrier. all the barriers and challenges should be dealt with by designing new training programs. Conclusion: The expert panel recom-mended using CGMs technology in people with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) children and adults, type 2 diabetes (T2DM) on multiple insulin injections, gestational diabetes (GDM) who need further glycemic control, and those at high risk for hypoglycemia. In addition, we recommend using them for a short period for those who require intensive BG control or during acute illness or stress. In addition, Ambulatory Glucose Profile (AGP) could be used as an educational tool for any individuals with DM to study the im-pact of certain elements of lifestyle modifications on their immediate BG level.

The Impact of Blood Transfusion on the Efficiency of Stem Cell Transplants

Background: While blood product transfusion is essential for managing hematologic deficits in allogenic Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (AHSCT) recipients, it has risks including infectious disease transmission, alloimmunization, and transfusion reactions. These risks have sparked an ongoing debate regarding the overall impact of transfusions on patient outcomes. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of Red Blood Cells (RBCs) and/or platelet transfusion on the infection incidence and overall survival in AHSCT patients. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of clinical and laboratory data of sixty adult patients with primary malignant hematological disorder who had undergone AHSCT. Participants’ data were categorized into two groups;Group 1 (low transfusion group) consisted of patients receiving 10 units. Quantitative data were expressed as mean ± SD. The t-test of significance and Chi-square (χ2) test were used, with p ≤ 0.05 considered significant. Result: A total of 60 patients’ data was included. In Group 1, out of 30 patients, 13 (43.33%) developed infections. In contrast, Group 2 had 21 (70%) out of 30 patients develop infections. Group 1 had a higher survival rate (57.8%) than Group 2 (transfusion > 10 units) (46.2%) with a chi-square value = 23.56, and p-value Conclusion: The volume of blood product transfusions has a considerable impact on patient outcomes, particularly infection and survival rates. Additional long-term prospective studies and larger randomized controlled trials are needed to strengthen the evidence for determining transfusion protocols for these patients.

A New Kinetic Spectrophotometric Method for Determination of Cefadroxil in Pharmaceutical Formulations Using <i>Lawsonia inermis</i>(Henna) as Natural Reagent

A new simple and sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method has been proposed for the determination of cefadroxil in pure form and pharmaceutical formulations. The proposed method is based on the formation of yellow coloured product (λmax = 410 nm) that resulted after addition of the reagent, which is composed of a mixture of Henna extract, sodium hydroxide and potassium permanganate, to cefadroxil aqueous solution. The experimental conditions have been optimized. Beer’s law is obeyed over the concentrations of 100 - 35 μg/ml, with a linear regression correlation coefficient of 0.996. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determination of cefadroxil in pharmaceutical dosage forms.

The practice of medicine in Muslim nations dates to the millennia before the advent of the religion of Islam. As far as the pre-Islamic period is concerned, what evidence is available indicates the medical evolution began nearly 6000 years ago in Mesopotamia, where medicine for the first time in history became a recognised profession. In ancient Egypt, it was practised by priest-physicians who demonstrated astonishing knowledge in various medical subjects. The origins of medicine in ancient Persia (Afghanistan, Iran, and parts of Central Asia) span the 6th century B.C. and to the Zoroastrian religious book of Avesta, which delved into such topics as preventive and clinical medicine. In reference to the account of medicine in the Arab peninsula, limited information exists. In terms of post-Islamic ages, the foundations of Islamic science were laid during the reign of the second Abbasid Caliph, al-Mansur, and the establishment of Baghdad as its capital in 762 A.D., when the Arabic translation movement commenced. During the next six centuries, medicine and other fields of science flourished, and prominent physicians such as the Bukht Yishu family, Razī, Majūsī, Avicenna, Jorjanī, al-Zahrāwī, and other scientists emerged. In both the pre- and post-Islamic ages, Islamic medicine was heavily influenced by Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Persian, Indian, and, predominantly, Greek medicine. Nevertheless, the advancements and innovations in medical science and healthcare systems that were achieved during the early and medieval Islamic ages have indubitably made an invaluable contribution to the evolution of medicine throughout the world, and to the invention of numerous procedures and practices which are still widely performed today. Hence, the value of comprehending the pivotal role Islamic medicine played (and indeed still plays) in the progression of medical practice across the globe cannot be overstated.

Isolation and characterization of marine-derived actinomycetes with cytotoxic activity from the Red Sea coast

Objective: To isolate and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of different actinomycetes species isolated from the Red Sea coast in Sharm el-Sheikh, ***: Forty actinomycetes strains were isolated from different sediments and seawater samples collected from the Red Sea coast in Egypt. Actinomycetes were recognized by morphological and microscopic examinations. Cell viability and cytotoxicity induced by the crude extracts on breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 were assessed using methylene blue assay. The strains with promising cytotoxic activity were identified by sequencing and amplifying the 16 S r RNA genes. The antibacterial activities of the crude extracts were performed using Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion ***: The results indicated that five ethyl acetate extracts exhibited cytotoxicity towards breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231. The highest cytotoxic activity was found for the ethyl acetate extracts of EGY2 and EGY39. The isolate EGY3 was identified as a new Streptomyces species, while the actinomycete EGY22 was found to be a member of the genus Nocardiopsis sp. The crude extract of the isolate EGY8 showed slightly high antimicrobial activity against different test ***: The results of the present study reveal that marine sediments of the Red Sea are a potent source of novel species of actinomycetes. The isolates may be useful in discovery of novel bioactive compounds and an important step in the development of microbial natural product research.

Establishing a person’s identity is important for both legal and humanitarian *** determination is a key characteristic used in the identification of a deceased *** aim of this study was to determine sex by using mandibular canines among individuals in the Northeastern Nigerian *** hundred and eight individuals(102 men and 106 women)participated in this *** mesiodistal widths of the mandibular canines and intercanine distances were measured using a vernier caliper and a ***‑wise logistic regression analyses were used to determine sex based on mandibular *** participants had significantly higher mandibular mesiodistal width than female ***,the canine index was significantly higher in male participants than in female *** mesiodistal width of the left mandibular canine exhibited the highest sexual dimorphism(9.78%)and was the best characteristic for use in determining sex,with an accuracy of 75%.Among the Northwestern Nigerian population,sex can be most accurately determined using the mesiodistal width of the left mandibular canine.

Background: During several years, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) played a significant role in the health of periodontal tissues. The goals of prosthodontics management are to restore the missing teeth, provide the loss of teeth functions, and establish acceptable dental esthetics, and there are some evidences revealing the passive effects of snuff on the results of prosthodontics and periodontal treatment, so the present study is performed to evaluate the outcomes of topical application of ascorbic acid solution as an adjunctive method of periodontal therapy among wet sniff users after prosthodontics therapy. Methods: The clinical situation was evaluated in 150 moderate periodontitis patients after conventional periodontal and prosthodontics therapy.
