Competitiveness of Winter Rice Varieties against Weed under Dry Direct Seeded Conditions

Aerobic rice or dry direct seeded rice is highly vulnerable to weeds because of lack of “head start” over weeds and standing water layer to suppress weeds. The risks of chemical control and the huge cost involvement in.m.chanical control demand an eco-friendly and cost-effective integrated weed management. Weed competitive rice cultivar may be considered as a viable tool for integrated weed management. In these circumstances, an experiment was designed to evaluate weed competitiveness of some selected winter rice varieties under aerobic soil conditions. The study was conducted during dry season (February to June) 2016 at the Agron.m. Field Laboratory and Weed management Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, mymensingh. Fourteen rice varieties n.m.ly, BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan47, BRRI dhan50, BRRI dhan55, BRRI dhan58, BRRI dhan59, BRRI dhan67, Binadhan-5, Binadhan-6, Binadhan-8, Binadhan-10, BRRI hybrid dhan3 and Agrodhan-14 were grown under weedy and weed-free conditions. Plots with no rice were also maintained to observe the natural growth of weed in absence of rice. The experiment was conducted with split-plot design with three replications. Weeding regime was allocated in.m.in plot and rice variety was allocated in sub-plot. Results showed that rice varieties varied widely in their yield performances and weed competitiveness. Among rice varieties, BRRI dhan59 allowed the min.m.m weed growth (19.2 g m-2) while Binadhan-5 allowed the maximum weed growth (62.8 g m-2). Grain yield ranged from 1.85 t ha-1 (BRRI dhan55) to 3.92 t ha-1 (Binadhan-5) under weed-free condition and between 0.41 t ha-1 (BRRI dhan55) and 2.06 t ha-1 (BRRI dhan59) under weedy condition. Weed inflicted relative yield loss ranged from 43.4% to 82.1% among the varieties. BRRI dhan59 allowed the least yield penalty (43.4%) while Binadhan-5 had the maximum yield penalty (82.1%) due to weed competition. although Binadhan-5 is the most productive variety (3.92 t ha-1) for aerobic

A selective, sensitive and rugged liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry(LC–mS/mS) assay has been developed for the simultaneous determination of doxepin(Dox) and its pharmacologically active metabolite, nordoxepin(nDox) in human plasma. The analytes and their internal standards(IS)were extracted from 500 m L of human plasma by liquid-liquid extraction using methyl tert-butyl *** separation was achieved on Hypurity C8 column(100 mm ? 4.6 mm, 5 mm) using a mixture of acetonitrile-methanol(95:5, v/v) and 2.0 mm ammonium formate in 93:7(v/v) ratio. Detection was accomplished by tandem mass spectrometry in the positive ionization and multiple reaction.m.nitoring acquisition.m.de. The protonated precursor to product ion transitions studied for Dox, nDox,and their corresponding ISs, propranolol and desipramine, were m/z 280.1-107.0, 266.0-107.0,260.1-116.1 and 267.1-72.1, respectively. A linear dyn.m.c range of 15.0–3900 pg/mL for Dox and 5.00–1300 pg/mL for nDox was established with mean correlation coefficient(r2) of 0.9991 and 0.9993, respectively. The extraction recovery ranged from 86.6%–90.4% and 88.0%–99.1% for Dox and nDox, respectively. The intra-batch and inter-batch precision(% CV) across quality control levels was r 8.3% for both the analytes. Stability evaluated under different storage conditions showed no evidence of degradation and the % change in stability samples compared to n.m.nal concentration ranged from 4.7% to12.3%. The method was successfully applied to a bioequivalence study of 6 mg doxepin hydrochloride orally disintegrating tablet in 41 healthy Indian subjects under fasting and fed conditions.

The antioxidant capacity and changes in chemical composition of two grape varieties, the new hybrid BRS-Carmem and the Bord6 grape （Vitis labrusca） and of their products （juice, wine and vinegar） were evaluated by several techniques. The DPPH method was used to measure the antioxidant capacity, whereas, the total phenolic contents （TPC） were measured by Folin-Ciocalteau method. Overall chemical composition was also monitored by ESI-mS fingerprints and UPLC-mS analysis. For both grape varieties, the highest （and similar） antioxidant capacity and TPC were observed for the wine and vinegar samples followed by the grapes and then the juices. In addition, ESI-mS fingerprints and UPLC-mS analysis in the negative ion.m.de indicated substantial changes in chemical composition from grape to juice and wine, and then to vinegar.

The inhibition performance of 1-hydralazinophthalazine (HPZ) (1), and synthesized1-(2-[(5-methylfuran-2-yl)methylene)] hydrazono) phthalazine (mFHPZ) (2), 1-(phthalazin-1(2H)-one) [(pyridin-2-yl) ethylidene] hydrazone (ACPHPZ) (3) and (2-acetylthiophene hydrazono) phthalazine (ACTHPZ) (4) has been investigated for mild steel in 1 m HCl. Compound 4 shows maximum inhibition efficiency of 93% at 5.0 × 10-3 m concentration. The evaluation of thermodyn.m.cs and activation parameters indicated spontaneous adsorption of the inhibitor molecules which takes place through chemisorption. The adsorption of 3 and 2 follows Lan.m.ir adsorption isotherm and Temkin adsorption isotherm for 4 and 1. The inhibitor efficiency was of the order 4 > 3 > 1 > 2. Impedance study for the representative inhibitor compounds 4 and 3 showed that decrease in charge transfer resistance is responsible for effective protection of mild steel surface by the tested inhibitor.

An improved topographic database for King George Island,one of the most frequently visited regions in Antarctica,is presented.A first step consisted in combining data from differential GPS surveys gained during the austral summers 1997～1998 and 1999～2000,with the current coastline from a SPOT satellite image mosaic,topographic information from existing maps and from the Antarctic Digital *** this data sets,a digital terrain.m.del (DTm) was generated using Arc/Info *** a second step,a satellite image map at the scale 1∶100 000 was assembled from contour lines derived from the DTm and the satellite mosaic.A lack of accurate topographic information in the eastern part of the island was *** topographic surveying or SAR interferometry should be used to improve the data quality in that *** GIS integrated database will be indispensable for glaciological and climatological studies and administrative and scientific *** future,the application of GIS techniques will be mandatory for environmental impact studies and environmental monitoring as well as for management plans on King George Island.
