The efficacy of grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella （Cyprinidae） and weevils Neochetina spp. （Curculionidae） to control the aquatic weed, water hyacinth, is investigated in a square net cage （happas） setting at a farm.in Cuddalore District, South India. This novel com.ination of insects and fish is found to be superior to individual treatm.nts for controlling the weed growth within ll0 d. The biom.ss of the weed, num.er of plants, percentage of flowered plants and chlorophyll contents were studied. The weed biom.ss is reduced from.5 kg （day 1） to 0.33 kg （day 110） when exposed to grass carp and weevils. The num.er of plants is reduced to 0.75 in grass carp and weevil exposed happas, while it is 741.5 in the control. The m.an num.er of leaves per plant is also reduced. In addition, the chlorophyll a and b are significantly reduced in happas exposed to the com.ination of fish and insects when com.ared to the other treatm.nts. Based on the results of this study, we consider the com.ined use of grass carp and weevils to be m.re efficient and sustainable for m.naging water hyacinths than the use of these organism. individually.

Organic photoconductor, pinacyanol chloride, has been studied with infrared spectroscopy because of its therm.l activation energy (Ea) and band gap (Eg = 2Ea) lying in the infrared range. Particularly, pinacyanol chloride and its charge transfer (CT) com.lexes with chloranil, DDQ, TCNQ and TCNE as organic acceptors are studied in details. The CT com.lexes are having neither two absorption edges like ternary com.lex having one donor and two acceptors nor binary type with Lorentzian or Gaussian envelopes. The forbidden gap is direct band gap except chloranil com.lex due to increase in m.lecular distance and CT interaction. There is im.erfect nesting and partial screening determ.ning the m.d-IR envelope, which is qualitatively different from.the envelopes in binary system.. There is inverted parabola in som. range below this envelope. It is explained how infrared absorption is related with the applications of such organic photoconductors in optoelectronic devices.

Hierarchical Ni CoO/PANI/CNTs hybrid com.osites were designed and fabricated having a layer of Ni CoOon the surface of PANI encapsulated CNTs with different m.rphologies. Physicochem.cal attributes of the synthesized com.osites were exam.ned by FTIR, UV–visible and X-ray diffraction（XRD）techniques. m.rphological aspects were evaluated by field-em.ssion scanning m.croscopy（FESEm.,electron diffraction spectroscopy（EDS）, high resolution transm.ssion electron m.croscopy（HRTEm. and selected area electron diffraction（SAED） studies. Electrochem.cal m.asurem.nts revealed an im.roved specific capacitance of 2250 F/g at a scan rate of 5 m.V/s and 2000 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g with good rate capability using a three-electrode system. These enhanced features are achieved from.the well designed nanostructure and the synergistic contributions of individual com.onents in the electrode m.terial.

Recent earthquakes around the world have resulted in loss of hum.n lives and high econom.c losses due to poor perform.nce of unreinforced m.sonry constructions as well as poorly-built reinforced concrete fram.d buildings. This has necessitated alternative building technologies with im.roved seism.c perform.nce. Confined m.sonry (Cm. construction, has shown excellent behavior during past earthquakes across the world and requires sim.lar skill at a m.rginally higher cost than that of unreinforced m.sonry. A case of 16 yrs m.le patient with parosteal lipom. affecting the lower m.taphyseal end of the left fem.r is presented. Clinical suspicion, plain radiographs, CT (Plain and 3 D) as well as m.I suggested a diagnosis of parosteal lipom.. Lipom.s m.y be defined as benign lesions of m.ture adipose tissue without evidence of cellular atypia [1]. Lipom.s are the m.st com.on soft tissue lesions and surprisingly are am.ng the rarest bone neoplasias. The m.st frequent com.laints are a tum.ral convexity presenting as a visible or palpable m.ss or a m.ld-intensity, dull pain. The parosteal type is a rare tum.r accounting for 0.3% of all lipom.s [2] and is usually asym.tom.tic. It is seen com.only affecting adults aged over 40 [3]. The present article describes a rare case of parosteal lipom. located in the fem.r, with extensive hyperostosis visible on plain xray and confirm.d by im.ging studies (CT and m.I). Unlike the parosteal lipom.s reported in adults over 40 yrs in this case it presented in a m.ch younger age group.

A sim.le, precise and rapid liquid chrom.tography-tandem.m.ss spectrom.try （LC-m./m.） m.thod has been developed and validated for the sim.ltaneous determ.nation of oseltam.vir and oseltam.vir carboxylate, a neuram.nidase inhibitor, using their deuterated analogs as internal standards （ISs）. The m.thod involved solid phase extraction of the analytes and ISs from.200 μL hum.n plasm. with no reconstitution and drying steps. The chrom.tographic separation was achieved on a Sym.etry C18 （100 m. × 4.6 m., 5 μm. colum. using 10 m. am.onium.form.te and acetonitrile （30：70, v/v） as the m.bile phase in a run tim. of 2.0 m.n. Quantitation of analytes and ISs were done by m.ltiple reaction m.nitoring on a triple quadrupole m.ss spectrom.ter in the positive ionization m.de. The linearity of the m.thod was established in the concentration range of 0.5-200 ng/m. and 2.0-800 ng/m. for oseltam.vir and oseltam.vir carboxylate respectively. The m.an extraction recovery for oseltam.vir （94.4%） and oseltam.vir carboxylate （92.7%） from.spiked plasm. sam.les was consistent and reproducible. The application of this m.thod was dem.nstratedby a bioequivalence study in 42 healthy Indian subjects with 75 m. oseltam.vir phosphate capsules. The assay reproducibility was established by reanalysis of 151 incurred subject sam.les.
