Phytochemical Characterization of the Essential Oils Obtained from Mediterranean Thymus spp. （Lamiacea） Harvested at Different Stages of Growth

To prove more information on the chemical composition of the essential oils of Thymus taxa collected in different algeria areas, and to determine the effect of harvesting periods on the composition of these essential oils： three Thymus species （T. numidicus, *** and T. algeriensis） were collected during two periods of development, the EOs （essential oils） obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts were analyzed by GC/MS （gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry）. During the pre-flowering stage, the RP% （relative percentage） of Eos varied between 1.00% and 1.34% for all the species. The content of EOs increased during the flowering stage and reached particularly 2.10% and 2.85% for T. numidicus （from Berrahal） and T. numidicus （from Tacha）, respectively. GC/MS analysis showed that these oils are very rich in oxygenated monoterpenes group （76.96%-82.11%） when the plants were harvested during the flowering stage of growth. Thymol was the major compound in the EOs contained in T. numidicus （Berrahal） and T. ciliatus with more than 39% and 54%, respectively. Thymus numidicus （Tacha） and T. algeriensis EOs were characterized by high content in p-cimene-7-ol （78.06% and 26.98%, respectively）. These two chemotypes （thymol and p-cimene-7-ol） are considered as antioxidant and antimicrobial agents providing the basis for many applications in processed food preservation and pharmaceutical products.

Two Unified algorithms for Fundamental Planetary Ephemeris

In the present paper, we established two unified algorithms. The first algorithm is for the transformations between J2000.0 Keplerian orbital elements and B1950.0 elements, while the second is for the transformations between the equatorial orbital elements and the ecliptic orbital elements. Mathematica Modules of the algorithms are given together with some numerical applications.

Extraction, Identification and Antioxidative Properties of the Flavonoid-Rich Fractions from Leaves and Flowers of Cassia <i>angustifolia</i>

Flavonoids identification, total flavonoids content and antioxidant activity of the extracts from the leaves as well as flowers of Cassia angustifolia were determined. Five different extraction techniques were used for the extraction of flavonoids from leaves and flowers. Total flavonoid contents (TFC) in the extracts were determined by UV-visible spectrophotometry. Individual flavonoids were identified and quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with photodiode array detection and electrospray ioniza- tion tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-PDA-ESI-MS). It has been examined that aqueous ethanol (70%) fractions of C. angustifolia flowers and leaves are highly rich in flavonoids and microwave extraction is the best method for the extraction of individual flavanoid constituents (1 - 9) as well as total flavonoid contents. It was also found that compound 8 was absent in the leaves and compounds 2 and 5 could not be identified. The extracts of C. angustifolia flowers and leaves show strong antioxidant activity.

Use of ultrasonic transient elastography (Fibroscan) in the assessment of hepatic focal lesion stiffness

Background and Aim: Hepatic focal lesions differ in their tissue composition and in the degree of stiffness, so our aim was to evaluate the role of Ultrasonic Transient Elastography (Fibroscan) in the measurement of hepatic focal lesions stiffness in order to differentiate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) focal lesions from other non HCC focal lesions. Methods: The study was conducted on 34 patients with hepatic focal lesion(s) in the right lobe located near the liver surface and more than or equal4 cmin diameter, detected by imaging studies and diagnosed by CT and histopathology. Stiffness over the focal lesions was measured by the fibroscan. Results: The median value of stiffness was 72.5 kPa over HCC focal lesions, 17.2 kPa over lymphoma focal lesions, 6.5 kPa over metastatic focal lesions and 10.5 kPa over the sarcoidosis focal lesion. Conclusions: Hepatocellular carcinoma focal lesions are much stiffer than lymphoma, metastasis or sarcoidosis focal lesions. Fibroscan may be a useful non-invasive method in the prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma in the future.

Design, Synthesis, <i>in Vitro</i>Antibacterial Activity, and Docking Studies of New Rhodanine Derivatives

Bacterial infections present a serious challenge to healthcare practitioners due to the emergence of resistance to numerous conventional antibacterial drugs. Therefore, new bacterial targets and new antimicrobials are unmet medical needs. Rhodanine derivatives are known to possess potent antimicrobial activities. In this study, we determined the activity spectrum of a series of new rhodanine derivatives against representative Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Compounds 3a and 5a had the highest activity with minimum inhibitory concentrations in the range of 1.12 - 2.5 μg/mL. Transmission electron microscope results confirmed that activities against bacteria occurred via rupturing of the cell wall. Molecular modeling results suggested that rhodanine derivatives have the potential to irreversibly bind to the penicillin-binding protein (PBP) Ser62 residue in the active site. Thus, our results suggested that these rhodanine derivatives could be potential antibacterial drug candidates with strong activity against Gram-negative bacteria.

Effect of albendazole and Mebendazole on Hydatid Cyst of Mice

In the current study, hydatid cysts from livers and lungs of camels were obtained from Tambool slaughter house and protoscoleces were separated aseptically. 36-weeks-old Swiss mice (25 - 30 gram body weight males and females) were divided into two groups of 6 each: a prophylactic group dosed with 150 ml/kg of albendazole and mebendazole was given directly after injection with 2000 protoscoleces intraperitoneally for 10 consecutive days. The treated group was given a dose of 300 ml/kg of albendazole and mebendazole for 24 days with 4 days interval separated by 2 days and after 6 months of inoculation with protoscoleces, the two groups in addition to the control group were sacrificed and necropsied. The results revealed a significant difference in the development of hydatid cyst (p all number of cysts was noticed in the group treated with albendazole and mebendazole compared to the control group, however, albendazole was highly efficacious than the mebendazole where the efficiency of albendazole reached 97% while the mebendazole efficiency rate was almost 50% which indicates that albendazole could be considered the drug of choice in the treatment of hydatid cyst.

Aggression and violence in the workplace is an act or threat of violence ranging from verbal abuse to physical assaults against individuals employed or on duty(CDC,2019).It is considered a global public health issue faced by staff across different sectors,including the healthcare *** on many studies,Oman recorded a high level of workplace violence against nurses among all Gulf Cooperation Council countries[1-3].al Maskari,et al.(2020)found that throughout Oman,violence in the workplace is highly prevalent among nurses in the emergency department[4].The goal of the current policy is to highlight the value of implementing such a policy.
