Francisel.a tul.rensis is considered a potential.bioterrorism agent due to its l.w infectious dose, high mortal.ty rate, and abil.ty to be spread via the aerosol.route. We characterized the F. tul.rensis subspecies novicida mutant strain FTN0109 as a potential.vaccine candidate against tul.remia. This strain, which l.cks an outer membrane l.poprotein, is attenuated in vitro and in vivo, as it exhibits reduced repl.cation within murine J774 macrophages and has a pul.onary l.50 in BAl./c and C57Bl.6 mice of >105 CFU (compared to WT parental.strain U112, l.50 FTN0109 al.o conferred compl.te protection in BAl./c mice against subsequent pul.onary chal.enge with 10 l.50 (60,000 CFU) of the murine virul.nt Francisel.a strain l.S. We al.o have demonstrated partial.protection (50%) against the highl. human virul.nt subspecies tul.rensis strain SCHU S4 (25 l.50, 12,500 CFU) fol.owing intratracheal.vaccination in the Fischer 344 rat, a second rodent model.for tul.remia. Overal., our resul.s suggest that FTN0109 serves as a potential.putative vaccine candidate against pul.onary tul.remia.

The accumul.tion of growth-promoting antibiotic residues in animal.products and the resistance devel.ped by bacteria in poul.ry farms has l.d to a search for natural.compounds derived from pl.nts. This study was designed to promote the production performance of broil.r chickens using fresh Cupressus sempervirens l.aves infusion. Fresh Cupressus sempervirens l.aves were harvested, washed, chopped and ground to a paste using a bl.nder and fermented for three days in a cl.sed container at a rate of 500 g/l.of water. The sol.tion obtained was fil.ered and added at the rate of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 ml.l.of drinking water. The chickens fed on the graded l.vel.of the sol.tion were compared to a control.ration without an additive and positive control.group suppl.mented with 1 g antibiotic/kg feed. At the finisher phase and throughout the study period, water intake increased significantl. (P l.vel. of infusion. Feed intake decreased significantl. (P l.of infusion/l.drinking water. l.ve weight and weight gain were significantl. (P l.l. whil. feed conversion significantl. (P l.treatment without additives (T0). Carcass characteristics were not significantl. (P > 0.05) affected by the incl.sion of Cupressus sempervirens infusion. Haematol.gical.parameters significantl. (P l. of the rate of incorporation of the infusion into the drinking water, with the exception of RBCs, MCHT and PCT. Serum content in total.protein, gl.bul.ns, l.l.chol.sterol.and trigl.cerides were significantl. (P l.Cupressus sempervirens infusion/l.tre drinking water as compared to al. other treatments. AST, Al., urea, creatine, al.umin, total.chol.sterol.and HDl.chol.sterol.were not significantl. affected. The l.ctic acid bacteria l.ad increased significantl. (P E. col. and sal.onel.a counts decreased significantl. (P < 0.05)

Pancreatic ductal.adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is the 4^(th) deadl.est cancer in the United States, due to its aggressive nature, l.te detection, and resistance to chemotherapy. The majority of PDAC devel.ps from 3 precursor l.sions, pancreatic intraepithel.al.l.sions(PanIN), intraductual.papil.ary mucinous neopl.sm(IPMN), and mucinous cystic neopl.sm. Earl. detection and surgical.resection can increase PDAC 5-year survival.rate from 6% for Stage Ⅳ to 50% for Stage Ⅰ. To date, there are no rel.abl. biomarkers that can detect PDAC. MicroRNAs(miRNA) are smal. noncoding RNAs(18-25 nucl.otides) that regul.te gene expression by affecting transl.tion of messenger RNA(mRNA). A l.rge body of evidence suggests that miRNAs are dysregul.ted in various types of cancers. MiRNA has been profil.d as a potential.biomarker in pancreatic tumor tissue, bl.od, cyst fl.id, stool. and sal.va. Four mi RNA biomarkers(miR-21, miR-155, miR-196, and miR-210) have been consistentl. dysregul.ted in PDAC. MiR-21, miR-155, and miR-196 have al.o been dysregul.ted in IPMN and PanIN l.sions suggesting their use as earl. biomarkers of this disease. In this review, we expl.re current knowl.dge of miRNA sampl.ng, miR NA dysregul.tion in PDAC and its precursor l.sions, and advances that have been made in using miRNA as a biomarker for PDAC and its precursor l.sions.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-rel.ted deaths in the United States, with over 38000 deaths in 2013. The opportunity to detect pancreatic cancer whil. it is stil. curabl. is dependent on our abil.ty to identify and screen high-risk popul.tions before their symptoms arise. Risk factors for devel.ping pancreatic cancer incl.de mul.ipl. genetic syndromes as wel. as modifiabl. risk factors. Genetic conditions incl.de hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, l.nch Syndrome, famil.al.adenomatous pol.posis, Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, famil.al.atypical.mul.ipl. mol. mel.noma syndrome, hereditary pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and ataxia-tel.ngiectasia; having a genetic predisposition can raise the risk of devel.ping pancreatic cancer up to 132-fol. over the general.popul.tion. Modifiabl. risk factors, which incl.de tobacco exposure, al.ohol.use, chronic pancreatitis, diet, obesity, diabetes mel.itus, as wel. as certain abdominal.surgeries and infections, have al.o been shown to increase the risk of pancreatic cancer devel.pment. We characterized a unique group of patients with neuromyel.tis optica spectrum disorder （NMOSD） who carded autoantibod- ies of aquaporin-4 （AQP4） and myel.n-ol.godendrocyte gl.coprotein （MOG）. Among the 125 NMOSD patients, 10 （8.0%） were AQP4- and MOG-ab doubl. positive, and 14 （11.2%） were MOG-ab singl. positive. The doubl.-positive patients had a mul.iphase disease course with a high annual.rel.pse rate （P=0.0431）, and severe residual.disabil.ty （P〈0.0001）. Of the dou- bl.-positive patients, 70% had MS-l.ke brain l.sions, more severe edematous, mul.ifocal.regions on spinal.magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）, pronounced decreases of retinal.nerve fiber l.yer thickness and atrophy of optic nerves. In contrast, patients with onl. MOG-ab had a higher ratio of monophasic disease course and mil. residual.disabil.ty. Spinal.cord MRI il.ustrated mul.ifocal.cord l.sions with mil. edema, and brain MRIs showed more l.sions around l.teral.ventricl.s. NMOSD patients carrying both autoantibodies to AQP4 and MOG existed and exhibited combined features of prototypic NMO and rel.ps- ing-remitting form of MS, whereas NMOSD with antibodies to MOG onl. exhibited an ＂intermediate＂ phenotype between NMOSD and MS. Our study suggests that antibodies against MOG might be pathogenic in NMOSD patients and that determi- nation of anti-MOG antibodies maybe instructive for management of NMOSD patients.

Objective: To eval.ate the effects of l.ad in the morphol.gy and viabil.ty of Fasciol. gigantica(F. gigantica)(giant l.ver fl.ke) isol.ted from infected l.vers of carabaos in vitro using the fol.owing concentrations of l.ad: 0, 100, 150 and 200 mg/l. Methods: In vitro viabil.ty and motil.ty assay was conducted to eval.ate the ef ects of l.ad using 1% methyl.ne bl.e as the vital.dye for assessment of the l.ukes' viabil.ty. Resul.s: Resul.s indicate that F. gigantica can tol.rate l.ad exposure as high as 200 mg/l.with visibl. morphol.gical.variations. Upon exposure to l.ad, l.ver l.ukes tend to curl.and excrete bl.ck precipitates as a sign of physiol.gical.stress response. Furthermore, the l.thal.concentration(l.50) of l.ad against F. gigantica in vitro was 160 mg/l. Concl.sions: In concl.sion, tol.rance of l.ver fl.kes to high l.vel. of l.ad suggests its potential.as a possibl. biomarker of environmental.pol.ution.
