This study presents a development of an advanced cyberbased database-enabled design module for low- rise buildings （DEDM-LR） which provides estimation of the wind-induced responses for main wind force resisting frames by making direct use of pressure time histories measured at a large number of pressure taps over a suite of building models. These responses may be considered in lieu of code-specified load effects in which the overall accuracy may be influenced by the inherent simplifications in codes. In addition, this new automated approach is particularly attractive and advantageous as it allows a web-based online analysis/design via intuitive user-friendly interfaces for both the input and output in terms of familiar web-style forms that are nowadays very common in most of web-based services. Presently, the DEDM-LR hosts an aerodynamic database developed by the Tokyo Polytechnic University （TPU）, Japan for a variety of building configurations like flat, gable, and hip roofs under suburban terrain flow condition with immediate application to other databases. The paper shows the efficacy and validity of the DEDM-LR by walking through its details and examples on selected gable-roofed buildings. The architecture of DEDM-LR platform offers the ability to pool resources by hosting other databases that may become available in the near future.

Characteristics of a plasma flow field produced by a metal array bridge foil explosion

To improve the energy utilization efficiency of metal bridge foil explosion, and increase the function range of plasmas, array bridge foil explosion experiments with different structures were performed. A Schlieren photographic measurement system with a double-pulse laser source was used to observe the flow field of a bridge foil explosion. The evolution laws of plasmas and shock waves generated by array bridge foil explosions of different structures were analyzed and compared. A multi-phase flow calculation model was established to simulate the electrical exploding process of a metal bridge foil. The plasma equation of state was determined by considering the effect of the changing number of particles and Coulomb interaction on the pressure and internal energy. The ionization degree of the plasma was calculated via the Saha-Eggert equation assuming conditions of local thermal equilibrium. The exploding process of array bridge foils was simulated, and the superposition processes of plasma beams were analyzed. The variation and distribution laws of the density, temperature, pressure, and other important parameters were obtained. The results show that the array bridge foil has a larger plasma jet diameter than the single bridge foil for an equal total area of the bridge foil. We also found that the temperature, pressure, and density of the plasma jet＇s center region sharply increase because of the superposition of plasma beams.

Predicting plant invasiveness from native range size: clues from the Kashmir Himalaya

Aims In view of the growing interest in modelling the potential spread of invasive species,prediction of plant invasiveness on the basis of native range size holds considerable *** objective was to use a simple model to evaluate whether a wider native range predisposes plant species to become invasive in non-native regions and to easily identify potential invaders on this *** Kashmir Himalayan alien flora,of which a large proportion is native to Europe,was used to test this *** The Kashmir Himalayan alien flora comprises 436 species of vascular plants at different stages of *** focussed on plant species at two critical invasion stages(sensu Colautti and MacIsaac 2004),*** II(species that are just at the earliest phase of introduction)and Stage V(species that are widespread and dominant in the invaded region and are thus considered invasive).We used the territorial distribution in Europe(number of countries)as a surrogate for the native range size of plants of European *** Findings Using a subset of 88 species,for which information on the native European range was available,we showed that a large proportion(68%)of Stage II species growing in the Kashmir Valley had a relatively restricted European range(present in20 countries).We consequently hypothesized that 14 Kashmir Himalayan Stage II species of European origin that are distributed in>20 European countries are at risk of becoming future invaders in *** the other hand,those Kashmir Himalayan Stage II species of European origin distributed in<20 European countries are less likely to become *** this analysis is quite simple,the data suggest that a wider native range is a good predictor of plant invasiveness and could be used as a simple and low-cost early warning tool in predicting potential invasive species.

BACKGROUND: Liver resection is a demanding procedure due to the risk of massive blood loss, intra operative and post operative complications, bile leakage, hospitalization stay and post operative infection. These days various kinds of surgical instruments can be used but there are numerous well-known risk factors for morbidity and mortality during liver resection. Bleeding usually occurs during parenchymal resection, and surgical technique should be considered an important factor in preventing intra operative and post operative complications. Aim: The aim of this randomized clinical trial was to compare and measure the efficacy of EBVS+CUSA with traditional CCC used for hepatectomies. Which one can provide safer and careful liver resections without routine inflow occlusion, while achieving a satisfactory hemostasis and bile stasis, thus reducing blood loss and bile leak and related complications Objectives: To Analyze and evaluate, the effectiveness and performance of the Two-Surgeon technique using CUSA+EBVS with the conventional Classic crushing clamp CCC for hepatectomies done in cirrhotic and non cirrhotic patients. This Prospective randomized study was done to conduct the end points as blood-loss, duration of surgery, ICU stay, liver functions before/after the surgery, post operative infection and hospital stay. Methods: From the period of2010to2012, total of60randomized clinical patients underwent the procedure for hepatectomy. Patients were divided into two groups according to the device used for hepatectomy. Patients underwent classic crushing clamp technique （CCC） was assigned to Group A （n=30） and patients who underwent two surgeons technique using cavitron ultrasonic aspirator plus electrothermal bipolar vessel sealing system （CUSA+EBVS） was assigned to Group B （n=30）. The supercapacitive properties of manganese oxides(MnO_(x))are strongly affected by their crystal ***,the relationship between the crystal structure and supercapacitive performance of Mn O_(x)is ***,a temperature-controlled fabrication method was developed to achieve MnO_(2),Mn_(3)O_(4),MnO and Mn_(2)O_(3)microspheres with various crystal structure as electrode materials tunable for *** detailed material and electrochemical characterizations revealed the structureactivity relationship of Mn O_(x)microspheres by systematically investigating the effect of valence state,specific surface area,conductivity and morphology on supercapacitive *** these MnO_(x)materials,nanoneedle-like Mn O_(2)delivered a relatively high specific capacitance of 274.1 F/g at 1 A/g due to a high Mn valence state of+4,a large specific surface area of 113.4 m^(2)/g and a desirable electronic conductivity of 1.73×10^(-5)S/***,MnO_(2)presented a remarkable cycle stability with 115%capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles owing to the enhancement of *** work not only provides a facile strategy to modulate MnO_(x)crystal structure,but also offers a deep understanding of structure-dependent supercapacitive performance of MnO_(x).

Municipal solid waste(MSW)management is the most challenging environmental issue in developing countries around global *** mountainous regions,very few studies can be found and the availability of limited data,because waste management poses different challenges due to different climate,topography,and geographical *** study has been conducted in three urban areas of the Kashmir region(i.e.,Baramulla,Kupwara,and Bandipora)in the western ***,waste management is underdeveloped and openly dumped in an unscientific manner near to the rivers,streams,and lakes,which increases the threat of contamination to ground and surface water,*** present study aimed to analyze the current scenario of the MSW management system and its waste generation *** Physio-chemical characterization of municipal solid waste was carried out by using a quarter and cone *** analysis of samples was performed by using muffle furnace and bomb calorimeter for chemical analysis,*** findings of the MSW generation of urban areas of Kashmir were approximately 181.43 Mt/day(93.73 Mt/day in Baramulla,57.46 Mt/day in Kupwara,and 30.27 Mt/day in Bandipora),***,the findings of MSW showed high organic waste between(10.3%-68.5%),followed by recyclable waste(12.3%-15.30%),and inert waste(8.27%-9.10%),***,the chemical characterization results showed average moisture content varying between(47.6%-52.40%)with the lower calorific values of(1017-1175.6 kcal/kg)in the areas mentioned *** conclusion,alternative treatment methods were proposed,for instance,compositing,biomethane plants,the installation of recycling plants,and upgrading the existing dumping sites to sanitary-engineered landfills.
