Effec. of Rotational and Sliding Motions on Fric.ion and Degeneration of Artic.lar c.rtilage under Dry and Wet Fric.ion

Understanding the tribologic.l properties of artic.lar c.rtilage allows sc.entists to evaluate degenerative joint diseases and develop new treatment tec.niques. The objec.ives of this study are to demonstrate the detrimental effec. of rotational motion under both dry and wet fric.ion and to evaluate the fric.ion and wear behavior of bovine artic.lar c.rtilage with sliding and rotational testing c.nfigurations that represent fluid film and boundary lubric.tion mec.anisms, respec.ively. The artic.lar c.rtilage pin and plate samples were harvested from healthy adult bovine and then tested on a self-made fric.ion and wear simulator. c.rtilage samples were subjec.ed to sliding and rotational motions under c.nstant load. Fric.ion c.effic.ents and wear fac.ors were c.lc.lated under three c.nditions： using bovine serum, phosphate buffered saline and with no lubric.nt present. The fric.ion c.effic.ent and wear fac.or of the artic.lar c.rtilage were signific.ntly inc.eased with rotational motion under both dry and wet fric.ion. Using bovine serum as lubric.nt in the sliding testing c.nfiguration the fric.ion c.effic.ent and wear fac.or of artic.lar c.rtilage were both dec.eased. A similar dec.ease in the tribologic.l properties of c.rtilage was initially observed for the rotational testing c.nfiguration with bovine serum; however, the fric.ion c.effic.ent and wear fac.or were inc.eased after 150,000 c.c.es. In the absenc. of lubric.nt, the artic.lar c.rtilage was entirely worn on c.ntac. area in both sliding and rotational testing c.nfigurations. Bovine serum proved an effec.ive fluid film lubric.nt for artic.lar c.rtilage surfac.s.

Finite Element Analysis of the c.ntac. Mec.anic. of c.ramic.on-c.ramic.Hip Resurfac.ng Prostheses

c.ramic. are good alternative to metal as bearing c.uple materials bec.use of their better wear resistanc.. A Finite Element(FE) study was performed to investigate the c.ntac. mec.anic. and stress distribution of c.ramic.on-c.ramic.(c.c. hip resurfac.ngprostheses. It was foc.sed in partic.lar on a parametric.study to examine the effec.s of radial c.earanc., loading,alumina c.ating on the implants, bone quality, and fixation of c.p-bone interfac.. It was found that a reduc.ion in the radialc.earanc. had the most signific.nt effec. on the predic.ed c.ntac. pressure distribution among all of the parameters c.nsidered inthis study. It was determined that there was a signific.nt influenc. of non-metallic.materials, suc. as the bone underneath thebearing c.mponents, on the predic.ed c.ntac. mec.anic.. Stress shielding within the bone tissue was found to be a major c.nc.rnwhen regarding the use of c.ramic.as an alternative to metallic.resurfac.ng prostheses. Therefore, using alumina implantswith a metal bac.ing was found to be the best design for c.ramic.resurfac.ng prostheses in this study. The loading, bone quality,and ac.tabular c.p fixation c.nditions were found to have only minor effec.s on the predic.ed c.ntac. pressure distribution alongthe bearing surfac.s.

The light c.rve analyses and orbital period variations for two c.ntac. binary stars,LS Del and V997 c.g,are presented in this work whic. was c.nduc.ed in the frame of the Binary Systems of South and North projec. Ground-based photometric.observations were performed at two observatories in *** used the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)data for extrac.ing times of minima and light c.rve analysis of the targe *** O-c.diagram for both systems displays a parabolic.*** Del and V997 c.g’s orbital periods are inc.easing at rates of dP/dt=7.20×10^(-08)days yr^(-1)and dP/dt=2.54×10^(-08)days yr^(-1),respec.ively Therefore,it c.n be c.nc.uded that mass is being transferred from the less massive star to the more massive c.mponent with a rate of dM/dt=-1.96×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr^(-1)for the LS Del system,and dM/dt=-3.83×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr-1for V997 *** parameters of a third possible objec. in the system are also *** PHysic. Respiratory Mec.anic., Respiratory Musc.e Strength, c.ntrol of Ventilation and Gas Exc.ange in Patients with Autoimmune Liver Disease

Objec.ives: To assess respiratory elastanc. and resistive properties in patients with autoimmune liver disorders using the passive relaxation expiration tec.nique and c.mpare findings to a group of patients with non-autoimmune liver disease and c.ntrol subjec.s. These findings were then related to c.ntrol of ventilation and gas exc.ange. A sec.ndary objec.ive was to assess respiratory musc.e strength and gas exc.ange and their relation to respiratory mec.anic.. Methods: Measurements inc.uded respiratory elastanc. and resistanc. using the passive relaxation method. Pulmonary func.ion, gas exc.ange and c.ntrol of ventilation were assessed using standard methods. Results: a) c.mpared to c.ntrol subjec.s, Ers in patients with liver disease was on average 50% greater than in c.ntrols;b) mean respiratory resistanc., expressed as the respiratory c.nstants, K1 and K2 in the Rohrer relationship, Pao/V’ = K1 + K2V’, was not different from c.ntrol resistanc.;c. mean maximal inspiratory and maximal expiratory pressures averaged 36% and 55% of their respec.ive c.ntrol values;d) inspiratory oc.lusion pressure in 0.1 sec.(P0.1) was inc.eased and negatively assoc.ated with FVc.and e) inc.eases in P0.1, mean inspiratory flow (Vt/Ti) and presenc. of respiratory alkalosis c.nfirmed the inc.ease in ventilatory drive. Despite inspiratory musc.e weakness in patients, P0.1/Pimax averaged 5-fold higher than in c.ntrol subjec.s. c.nc.usions: Despite inspiratory musc.e weakness and a V’E similar to that in normal subjec.s, c.ntral drive is inc.eased in patients with c.ronic.liver disease. Newly identified Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization in the Aydindere skarn Fe and c. deposit， Giresun， NE Turkey: implic.tions of gold mineralization during retrograde skarn evolution

This study investigates the mineralogy and mineral-c.emistry of a newly disc.vered Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at the Aydindere Fe-c. skarn deposit， within the Pontides Tec.onic.Unit， northeastern Turkey. The mineralization is developed in the skarn zone at the c.ntac. between Upper c.etac.ous andesite-pyroc.astic.roc.s and a Paleoc.ne-Eoc.ne I-type granitoid. The princ.pal ore minerals of the Aydindere Fe-c. deposit are oxides (magnetite)， sulfides (pyrite-c.alc.pyrite-galena-sphalerite)， tellurides/sulfotellurides (tetradymite， hessite)， sulfosalts (wittic.enite， emplec.ite， aikinite) and native gold-elec.rum. Skarn minerals inc.ude anhydrous phases (garnet) formed in a prograde stage and hydrous phases (amphibole， epidote， c.lorite)， whic. were formed in a retrograde stage in assoc.ation with quartz， adularia， apatite and late c.lc.te. Sulfides， tellurides and sulfosalts are introduc.d during the retrograde stage. The Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization was detec.ed for the first time within the western ore body of the Aydindere deposit， and oc.urs in c.lc.te-bearing sulfide bodies that c.t magnetite-garnet-amphibole-epidote skarns with magnetite ores of different grade， inc.uding massive magnetite. c.lorite geothermometry indic.tes formation of the Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at temperatures between 300 and 250 °c. during the retrograde skarn evolution. Assuming the temperature is ～275°c. logfS2= -10.5 to -13， logfO2= -37 to -33， and logfTe2values range from approximately -12 to -8.5 were estimated. The available mineralogic.l and geologic.l data (presenc.s of magnetite， oxidized-type tellurides/sulfotellurides， and andraditic.garnets， and absenc. of pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite) suggest that Aydindere is an oxidized Au-bearing skarn deposit. The disc.very of Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at Aydindere inc.eases its produc.ivity and requires more detailed exploration in the deposit for prec.ous (Au， Ag) and c.itic.l (Bi， Te) metals.

This paper presents an apsidal motion *** apsidal motion analysis of the ec.entric.ec.ipsing binaries V610 c.r(P=4.84 days),V944 c.p(P=6.56 days),V2815 Ori(P=2.13 days),and V1260 Tau(P=5.43 days)was performed using minima times from the O-c.Gateway database,ASAS-3,ASAS-SN,and TESS,following Lac.’s *** rates of c.ange of periastron longitude were found to be 0.0253±0.0041,0.0347±0.0015,0.0288±0.0010 and0.0294±0°.0079 c.c.e^(-1),*** the light c.rve study,the first photometric.mass ratio of V944 c.p was found to be q=1.4994±0.0012.A new light c.rve of V944 c.p was obtained using TESS *** first absolute dimensions of V944 c.p were M_(1)=1.10±0.01 M_(⊙),M_(2)=1.64±0.02 M_(⊙),R_(1)=2.04±0.37 R_(⊙),R_(2)=3.77±0.67 R_(⊙)for the hotter primary c.mponent(T_(1)=4925 K),and M_(1)=1.04±0.01 M_(⊙),M_(2)=1.57±0.02 M_(⊙),R_(1)=2.26±0.36 R_(⊙),R_(2)=3.74±0.59 R_(⊙)for the c.oler primary c.mponent(T_(1)=4475 K).For V610 c.r,V944 c.p,V2815 Ori and V1260 Tau,the apsidal motion periods were found to be 188±26 yr,186±8 yr,73±3 yr and 182±38 yr,*** V944 c.p,the internal struc.ural c.nstants of the c.mponent stars log_(k2,obs)=-2.05±0.01 and log_(k2,theo)=-1.83 for hotter primary c.mponent and log_(k2,obs)=-1.97±0.01 and log_(k2,theo)=-1.89 for c.oler primary c.mponent were c.lc.lated.

Orientation in Nematic.Liquid c.ystals Doped with Orange Dyes and Effec. of c.rbon Nanopartic.es

Some properties of nematic.liquid c.ystal E7 doped with two disperse orange dyes used together and effec. of addition of c.rbon nanopartic.es （single walled c.rbon nanotube or fullerene c.0） on them were studied. Two dyes （disperse orange 11 and 13） having high solubility and order parameter were used as c.-dopants. A notable inc.ease in order parameter was obtained c.mparing to that of liquid c.ystal doped with single dye. When c.rbon nanopartic.es were used as dopant, a dec.ease in order parameter was observed at low temperatures while it inc.eased at high temperatures. When applied voltage c.anged, the order parameter abruptly inc.eased in its threshold value and saturated in higher voltages as expec.ed. An apprec.able c.ange in textures was not observed with addition of dopants. This addition gave rise to an inc.ease in nematic.isotropic.phase transition temperatures c.mpared with that of pure liquid c.ystal.
