Salacca zalacca(Gaertn.) Voss(family Arecaceae) is the snake fruit commonly known in Malay language as salak in Malaysia. This exotic fruit has diverse and potential pharmacological properties due to its high antioxidant content. It is often consumed due to its sweet taste. The abundant natural sugar and fibre along with minerals and vitamin makes it a nutritious fruit. Phytochemical investigation on this fruit has revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, glycosides as well as some volatile and aromatic compounds, including gallic acid, quercetin, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, proanthocyanidins, lycopene and β-carotene. Pharmacological studies on the fruit flesh and peel have shown some tremendous antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antidiabetic potential. This review provides the botanical information of Salacca zalacca as well as its scientific investigations involving the distinct pharmacological and phytochemical benefits. This could help in highlighting the lacking data and research gaps on this plant.

The Internet of Things(IoT)has been evolving for more than a *** advancements have increased its popularity,but concerns and risks related to IoT are growing considerably along with the increased number of connected *** 2013,a new cryptography-based infrastructure called blockchain emerged with the potential to replace the existing cloud-based infrastructure of IoT through *** this article,we provide a taxonomy of the challenges in the current IoT infrastructure,and a literature survey with a taxonomy of the issues to expect in the future of the IoT after adopting blockchain as an *** two architectures are compared based on their strengths and *** a brief survey of ongoing key research activities in blockchain is presented,which will have considerable impact on overcoming the challenges encountered in the applicability of blockchain in ***,considering the challenges and issues in both infrastructures and the latest research activities,we propose a high-level hybrid IoT approach that uses the cloud,edge/fog,and blockchain together to avoid the limitations of each infrastructure.

Pitfalls in interpretation of shallow seismic data

High-resolution shallow seismic methods are the most widely used geophysical methods in near surface characterization. However, in many cases interpreting the seismic images can be misleading. In this article, we present three case studies where results from P-wave seismic reflection, SH-wave seismic reflection, and multi-channel analysis of surface wave （MASW） surveys were incorrectly interpreted because of inadequate constraints on either the surveyed sites surface or subsurface conditions. A P-wave reflection survey feature was first interpreted as a shallow fault zone but it was later determined to result from a high level of background noise as the acquisition passed through a road intersection. A SH-wave seismic reflection survey feature was interpreted to be a reverse dip-slip fault but targeted drilling showed it was deep local erosion into the bedrock surface. Finally, in an MASW survey, a steeply dipping feature was first interpreted as a bedrock valley. However, later exploratory drilling showed the feature to be a shallow layer of very soft lake sediment that severely damped most of the applied surface wave frequency band. Although initial interpretations were incorrect, they stimulated discussions among geophysicists and geologists and underscored the need for meaningful cooperation and discourse between the scientists before, during, and after geophysical data acquisition.

Seed priming has proved to be an effective pre-germination seed invigoration technique for different crops to improve seed and seedling performance under different abiotic *** Bangladesh,winter rice is very often exposed to cold waves just after sowing in the nursery bed resulting in poor seed germination and seedling emergence,yellowish and thin seedlings production,and a very low survival *** priming may mitigate the cold stress during seed germination and seedling emergence and helps in the quality seedling production of winter *** evaluate the efficacy of different seed priming techniques in increasing seedling emergence,growth,vigor and survivability of winter rice cultivars under cold stress,a pot experiment was conducted at the Department of Agronomy,Bangladesh Agricultural University during December 2018 to January *** experiment comprised two factors,(A)Winter rice variety namely,(i)BRRI dhan29 and (ii)BRRI dhan36;(B)Seed priming agent namely (i)Control(no priming),(ii)20000 ppm NaCl,(iii)30000 ppm NaCl,(iv)20000 ppm KCl,(v)30000 ppm KCl,(vi)20000 ppm CaCl2,(vii)30000 ppm CaCl2,(viii)50 ppm CuSO4,(ix)75 ppm CuSO_(4),(x)10000 ppm ZnSO4,(xi)15000 ppm ZnSO4,(xii)2 ppm Na2MoO4,(xiii)3 ppm Na2MoO4,(xiv)100 ppm PEG(Polyethylene glycol 4000)and (xv)150 ppm *** were sown on two different dates viz.,1st December and 1st January so that seedlings are exposed to cold stress at different *** experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design(CRD)with three *** indicated that(in most of the cases)seed priming has a positive impact on seedling emergence rate(%),root length,shoot length,root shoot ratio,root dry weight,shoot dry weight,seedling dry weight and survival rate(%).Among the priming agents,KCl and CaCl2 performed best;while priming with NaCl and PEG showed no advantages over no priming for both the sowing *** general,BRRI dhan36 performed better than BRRI dhan29 in terms of seedling growth because

Dear Editor,We are describing a rare case presenting with page phenomenon,9 years post radical cystectomy for muscle invasive bladder *** kidney was developed secondary to a late recurrent urothelial tumour in the left renal *** case is a fifty-seven-year-old gentleman presented with poorly controlled hypertension and left dull aching loin *** blood pressure(BP)was 180/80 mmHg at diagnosis and was down to 150/80 mmHg using angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)inhibitor and beta blocker *** underwent a radical cystectomy(RC)and ileal conduit urinary diversion 9 years *** of his cystectomy specimen was localized urothelial carcinoma with negative resection margin and negative lymph nodes(T2N0M0).Examination showed a palpable mobile mass in the left hypochondrium.

In irrigated agricultural systems,nitrogen(N)and water are the vital resources for sustainability of the crop production in the modern era of climate *** current study aimed to assess the impact of water and N management on the productivity of irrigated rice *** the context,a field observation was done at the research farm of Bangladesh Agricultural University,Mymensingh,during dry seasons in consecutive two years(2018–2019 and 2019–2020).The experiments were set up following split-plot design assigning water management in the main plots,nitrogen management in the sub-plots,and the cultivars were approved in the split-split plot with three *** two years observation,it was revealed that rice cultivar Binadhan-8 gave the maximum value of leaf area index,number effective tillers hill-1 and grains panicle-1 which lead to the higher grain yield(GY).Substantial relationships were observed among the concentration of N,growth,total dry matter(TDM)and N content,N uptake,N utilization effectiveness,and ***,with little exception,the Combined effect of water and N,cultivars and water management were varied significantly for all ***,the results of the current study concluded that application of irrigation at 8 days after the disappearance of ponded water and source of 105 kg N ha-1 from PU+Poultry manure are the best management approach for the excellent performance of rice cultivar Binadhan-8.

Phytochemical and biological activities of Crataegus sinaica growing in Egypt

Objective:To evaluate the cardiac activity and hepatoprotection of Crataegus sinaica (***).Methods:All the isolated compounds were isolated by open-column liquid chromatography(CC) using sephadex LH-20 as stationary *** of the column was performed with EtOH or *** phytochemical investigation of the young stem of *** for the first time together with the leaves and flowers lead to the isolation and identification of quercetin,hyperoside,vitexin-2"-0-rhamnoside,epicatechin,procyanidin B2 and procyanidins ***:Rats treated with the low and high dose of *** leaves with flowers extract showed 15%and 17%reduction in the heart rate,and reduction in the STsegment by 107%and 57%;*** T-amplitude was decreased by 59%of the high dose *** the other hand,the young steins and leaves with flowers extracts of *** on primary culture of rat hepatocytes monolayer indicated a hepatoprotection for the total extract,ethyl acetate,butanol,and chlor of orm fractions at 100μg/mL,75μg/mL,50μg/mL,and 25μg/mL; ***:The results of these chemical and biological studies suggest the use of *** growing in Egypt as a preventive drug against cardiovascular and hepatic diseases. The chemical studies suggest the use of woody young stems as a newly investigated bioactive *** extraction of unsaturated fatty acids from the seeds of the plant would serve as a good health and nutritive product.

<i>In Vivo</i>and <i>In Vitro</i>Survival Rates of Protoscoleces Kept at Different Constant Temperature

An experiment was conducted on the survival rate of protoscoleces derived from hydatid cyst brought from infected camels in Tambool area (North Eastern Sudan). The survival rate was studied in vivo and in vitro through exposure to different constant temperatures to measure their viability. The results revealed that the protoscoleces remained viable in vitro for 20 days at 4°C, 7 and 5 days at 25°C and 37°C, respectively, while at 45°C the protoscoleces were immediately dead. This means that the infection rate of hydatid cyst becomes high in relatively cold seasons (winter and autumn). In the in vivo study, each mouse (five groups, four mice in each) was inoculated intraperitoneally with 2000 protoscoleces exposed to the same different constant temperature, as previously used. 6 months later, the mice in different groups were sacrificed and necropsied to study the development of hydatid cyst inside. The results showed that the rate of development inside the mice was clear in the first and the second groups (4°C and 25°C), however, in the other 2 groups (37°C and 45°C), no sign of development of the cyst was observed, with the presence of few number of hooks compared to the control group, which showed significant difference in the development of hydatid cyst.

The cavernoso-anal reflex： response of the anal sphincters to cavernosus muscles＇ stimulation

Aim： To prove the hypothesis that cavernosus muscles＇ contraction during coitus affects the reflex contraction of anal sphincters. Methods： Electromyographic response of external and internal anal sphincters to ischiocavernosus and bulbocavernosus muscle stimulation was studied in 17 healthy volunteers （10 men, 7 women, mean aged 38.3 ± 11.6 years）. The test was repeated after individual anesthetization of anal sphincters and the two cavernosus muscles,and after using saline instead of lidocaine. Results： Upon stimulation of each of the two cavernosus muscles,external and internal anal sphincters recorded increased electromyographic activity. Anal sphincters did not respond to stimulation of the anesthetized cavernosus muscles nor did anesthetized anal sphincters respond to cavernosus muscles＇ stimulation. Saline infiltration did not affect anal sphincteric response to cavernosal muscles＇ ***： Cavernosus muscles＇ contraction is suggested to evoke anal sphincteric contraction, which seems to be a reflex and mediated through the ＂cavernoso-anal reflex＂. Anal sphincteric contraction during coitus presumably acts to close the anal canal to thwart flatus or fecal leak.
