Acceleration of coasting enhances pregnancy rate in ICSI cycles at risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

Objective To assess the efficacy of adding Gn-releasing hormone antagonist（GnR ha） on the day of hC G triggering in a long luteal protocol without withholding the agonist in women who are at a risk to develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome（OHSS）.Methods This was a retrospective cohort study conducted upon 50 women who have elevated serum estradiol（E2） level 〉4 500 ng/L at the day of ovum triggering with hC G on a long agonist luteal protocol of controlled ovarian stimulation（COS）. When an exaggerated ovarian response was observed around day 10 of stimulation, immediately the next morning at 6 a.m. gonadotropin administration was stopped or reduced, and a single dose of ganirelix acetate（antagonist） was given sc continuation of the agonist dose hC G. Another serum E2 measurement was done at 6 p.m.（after 12 h of antagonist） then hC G, sc 250 mg and choriogonadotropin α were administered 14 h later after antagonist and documented the reduction of E2 level. Oocyte retrieval was conducted after 34-36 h of hC G administration. The measured outcomes were the level of E2 on the day of hC G injection, number of oocytes and their quality, pregnancy rate and the occurrence of OHSS and its grade in case it *** The total dose for recombinant FSH was 25.3±6.4 ampoules（75 IU/ampoule） while it was 11.0±3.0 ampoules for the urinary hM G. A higher oocyte maturation rate（82.8%） and a high fertilization rate（87.8%） were observed. The mean endometrial thickness was 10.1±1.0 mm on the day of hC G triggering. The higher fertilization rate with the good endometrial thickness observed resulting in a higher pregnancy rate（78.0%, 39/50） with statistically significant（P〈0.05）. A significant reduction of E2 level was documented by a percentage around 40% before hC Ginjection. Endophytes from medicinal plants and their potential for producing indole acetic acid, improving seed germination and mitigating oxidative stress

Medicinal plants have been used by marginal communities to treat various ailments. However, the potential of endophytes within these bio-prospective medicinal plants remains unknown. The present study elucidates the endophytic diversity of medicinal plants（Caralluma acutangula, Rhazya stricta, and Moringa peregrina） and the endophyte role in seed growth and oxidative stress. Various organs of medicinal plants yielded ten endophytes, which were identified as Phoma sp.（6 isolates）, Alternaria sp.（2）, Bipolaris sp.（1）, and Cladosporium sp.（1） based on 18 S rD NA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The culture filtrates（CFs; 25%, 50%, and 100% concentrations） from these endophytes were tested against the growth of normal and dwarf mutant rice lines. Endophytic CF exhibited dose-dependent growth stimulation and suppression effects. CF（100%） of Phoma sp. significantly increased rice seed germination and growth compared to controls and other endophytes. This growth-promoting effect was due to the presence of indole acetic acid in endophytic CF. The gas chromatography/mass spectrometry（GC/MS） analysis showed the highest indole acetic acid content（（54.31±0.21） μmol/L） in Bipolaris sp. In addition, the isolate of Bipolaris sp. exhibited significantly higher radical scavenging and anti-lipid peroxidation activity than the other isolates. Bipolaris sp. and Phoma sp. also exhibited significantly higher flavonoid and phenolic contents. The medicinal plants exhibited the presence of bio-prospective endophytic strains, which could be used for the improvement of crop growth and the mitigation of oxidative stresses.

Maize response to elevated plant density combined with lowered N-fertilizer rate is genotype-dependent

Increasing plant density and improving N fertilizer rate along with the use of high density-tolerant genotypes would lead to maximizing maize(Zea mays L.) grain productivity per unit land area. The objective of this investigation was to match the functions of optimum plant density and adequate nitrogen fertilizer application to produce the highest possible yields per unit area with the greatest maize genotype efficiency. Six maize inbred lines differing in tolerance to low N and high density(D) [three tolerant(T); L-17, L-18, L-53,and three sensitive(S); L-29, L-54, L-55] were chosen for diallel crosses. Parents and crosses were evaluated in the 2012 and 2013 seasons under three plant densities: low(47,600),medium(71,400), and high(95,200) plants ha-1and three N fertilization rates: low(no N addition), medium(285 kg N ha-1) and high(570 kg N ha-1). The T × T crosses were superior to the S × S and T × S crosses under the low N–high D environment in most studied traits across seasons. The relationships between the nine environments and grain yield per hectare(GYPH) showed near-linear regression functions for inbreds L54, L29, and L55 and hybrids L18 × L53 and L18 × L55 with the highest GYPH at a density of47,600 plants ha-1and N rate of 570 kg N ha-1and a curvilinear relationship for inbreds L17, L18, and L53 and the rest of the hybrids with the highest GYPH at a density of95,200 plants ha-1combined with an N rate of 570 kg N ha-1. Cross L17 × L54 gave the highest grain yield in this study under both high N–high-D(19.9 t ha-1) and medium N–high-D environments(17.6 t ha-1).

Ensuring food security for the rapidly increasing population and changing climatic scenarios are requisites for exploiting the genetic divergence of food crops.A study was undertaken to sort out an early maturing chickpea variety for fitting easily between rice-rice cropping systems in the Eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain of *** trial was comprised of eight elite lines of chickpea and executed at various localities in Bangladesh from 2014–15 to 2017–*** result explored the chickpea genotype,BARI Chola-11 remained superior to the rest of the elite genotypes for having a short maturity period(100–106 days),and lesser days to 50%flowering(47–55 days).The same genotype was recorded to have robust vegetative and reproductive yield attributes including plant height(49–57 cm),podsplant−1(37–50),and optimum 100 seed weight(19.5–20.6 g).Owing to better yield attributes,BARI Chola-11 resulted in the maximum seed yield(1200–1500 kg ha-1)of chickpea and might be recommended for general adoption in the region for boosting nutritional security status through improved productivity under changing climate.

Molecular Phylogeny of Walterinnesia aegyptia (Reptilia, Elapidae) Isolated from ha’il Province, Saudi Arabia

Walterinnesia aegyptia is one of the most venomous snakes belonging to the family Elapidae found in the Middle East and Africa. In addition to its ecological importance, it is accused of millions of deaths due to snakebites. Because molecular identification of snakes is crucial for the antivenom drug industry, mitochondrial genes are used to identify, characterize, and infer genetic diversity among different venomous snake species. Data of Walterinnesia collected from samples across Saudi Arabia were compared based on the mitochondrial 16S and 12S rRNA sequences with other Elapidae related taxa to assess the phylogenetic relationship. The phylogenetic analysis strongly supports the monophyly of the genus Walterinnesia based on two genes that represent different species of Elapidae. In addition, a close relationship between Walterinnesia aegyptia and W. morgani was found. Our molecular data showed that W. morgani from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is nearly genetically identical (D = 0) with W. aegyptia from ha’il and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Sinai, Egypt. Further study is required based on more material and detailed morphological and genetic analysis.

Green-synthetized selenium nanoparticles using berberine as a promising anticancer agent

Objective: The chemo-preventative and therapeutic properties of selenium nanoparticles(Se NPs) have been documented over recent decades and suggest the potential uses of Se NPs in medicine. Biogenic Se NPs have higher biocompatibility and stability than chemically synthesized nanoparticles, which enhances their medical applications, especially in the field of cancer therapy. This study evaluated the potential of green-synthetized Se NPs by using berberine(Ber) as an antitumor agent and elucidated the mechanism by which these molecules combat Ehrlich solid tumors(ESTs).Methods: Se NPs containing Ber(Se NPs-Ber) were synthesized using Ber and Na2 Se O3 and characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Sixty male Swiss albino mice were then acclimatized for one week, injected with Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, and divided into four groups: EST, EST + cisplatin(5 mg/kg), EST + Ber(20 mg/kg), and EST + Se NPs-Ber(0.5 mg/kg). At the end of a 16-day observation period, 12 mice from each group were euthanized to analyze differences in the body weight, tumor size,gene expression, and oxidative stress markers in the four groups. Three mice from each group were kept alive to compare the survival ***: Treatment with Se NPs-Ber significantly improved the survival rate and decreased the body weight and tumor size, compared to the EST group. Se NPs-Ber reduced oxidative stress in tumor tissue,as indicated by a decrease in the lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide levels and an increase in the glutathione levels. Moreover, Se NPs-Ber activated an apoptotic cascade in the tumor cells by downregulating the B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2) expression rate and upregulating the Bcl-2-associated X protein and caspase-3 expression rates. Assessment of Various Empirical Soil Loss Estimation Equations in Arid Regions

One of the most commonly used equations to estimate soil erosion is the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE). Based on the early approach developed by the Soil Conservation Service of USA, the rainfall erosivity factor (R-factor) in the RUSLE equation requires sub-daily rainfall data, which is usually not available. Other empirical equations estimate R-factor based on available rainfall data like annual and monthly rainfall data. In arid regions such as the Arabian Peninsula, several studies estimated the R-factor based on these empirical equations without calibration. We propose in this paper to assess the applicability of some of these empirical equations against R-factor values calculated using as a reference the RUSLE approach. For this data, data from 104 stations with sub-daily rainfall was collected. The reference R-factor was calculated for the 104 stations. The results of seven empirical equations were tested against the reference R-factor. Most of the tested equations significantly underestimated the R-factor. Furthermore, the obtained RMSE and MAE values were almost as high as the average R-factor, with MAPE exceeding 100%. Therefore, it is recommended not to apply these equations in arid regions. A recalibration of the form of equation that gave the best results, gave an RMSE of 280 (Mj·mm/(ha·hr)) and the MAPE dropped to 47.6%.

Growth and Yield of Sesame (<i>Sesamum indicum</i>L.) under the Influence of Planting Geometry and Irrigation Regimes

A field study to evaluate the “growth and yield of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) under the influence of planting geometry and irrigation regimes” was carried out at Oilseeds Section, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam located at (25°25'60"N, 68°31'60"E) during Kharif 2013. The experiment was laid out in a three replicated randomized complete block design (RCBD) factorial, having net plot size 3 × 3 m (9 m2). The treatments comprised three planting geometry (30 × 20 cm, 45 × 15 cm and 60 × 10 cm) and three irrigation regimes (2 irrigations at 20 and 40 DAS, 3 irrigations at 20, 40 and 60 DAS and 4 irrigations at 20, 40, 60 and 80 DAS). The analysis of variance showed that all the planting geometry and irrigation regimes significantly (P -1 (15.67), capsules plant-1 (38.00), seeds capsule-1 (51.44), seed weight plant-1 (31.89 g), seed index (2.83 g), biological yield (2301.23 kg·ha-1), seed yield (742.33 kg·ha-1) and harvest index (30.44%), followed by planting geometry of 60 × 10 cm in all the parameters. However, minimum growth and yield traits of sesame were recorded under planting geometry of 30 × 20 cm. Moreover, plant height was maximum (99.89 cm) under planting geometry of 30 × 20 cm. Among irrigation regimes, four irrigations (20, 40, 60 and 80 DAS) recorded maximum plant height (103.33 cm), branches plant-1 (16.44), capsules plant-1 (41.22), seeds capsule-1 (54.56), seed weight plant-1 (33.22 g), seed index (2.92 g), biological yield (2321.21 kg·ha-1), seed yield (748.78 kg·ha-1) and harvest index (31.00%), followed by three irrigations (20, 40 and 60 DAS) almost in all the traits. However, minimum growth and yield traits of sesame were recorded when crop was applied two irrigations (20 and 40 DAS). In case of interactive effects, the interaction of planting geometry of 45 × 15 cm × four irrigations (20, 40, 60 and 80 DAS) resulted in maximum attributes, particularly seed yield (765.00 kg·ha-1), whereas minimum traits were noted in the interaction of plan

Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of Magnetic Field Effect on Electrically Conducting Fluid at Inclined Angles in Rayleigh-Bénard Convection
