Process Simulation of a 620 Mw-Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant with Optimum Flue Gas Recirculation

The main objective of this investigation is to obtain an optimum value for the flue gas recirculation ratio in a 620 MW-Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) power plant with a 100% excess air in order to have a composition of the exhaust gas suitable for an effective absorption by amine solutions. To reach this goal, the recirculated flue gas is added to the secondary air (dilution air) used for cooling the turbine. The originality of this work is that the optimum value of a Flue Gas Recirculation (FGR) ratio of 0.42 is obtained from the change of the slope related to the effects of flue gas recirculation ratio on the molar percentage of oxygen in the exhaust gas. Compared to the NGCC power plant without flue gas recirculation, the molar percentage of carbon dioxide in the flue gas increases from 5% to 9.2% and the molar percentage of oxygen decreases from 10.9% to 3.5%. Since energy efficiency is the key parameter of energy conversion systems, the impact of the flue gas recirculation on the different energy inputs and outputs and the overall efficiency of the power plant are also investigated. It is found the positive effects of the flue gas recirculation on the electricity produced by the steam turbine generator (STG) are more important than its cooling effects on the power output of the combustion turbine generator (CTG). The flue gas recirculation has no effects on the water pump of the steam cycle and the increase of energy consumed by the compressor of flue gas is compensated by the decrease of energy consumed by the compressor of fresh air. Based on the Low heating value (LHV) of the natural gas, the flue gas recirculation increases the overall efficiency of the power plant by 1.1% from 57.5% from to 58.2%.

A protected semi-enclosed embayment,the Eastern Harbor(EH),is situated in the central sector of the Mediterranean coast of alexandria,*** is a famous fishing dock and water-sport center and its importance arose after the discovery of the Ptolemaic royal quarter of ancient *** protect this national treasure and improve its environmental health,the untreated anthropogenic effluents,which continued for decades into the EH since 1992,must be totally ***,it is an important issue to continually monitor and asses the environmental status of the *** sediment texture,total organic carbon,and the accumulation,distribution,and ecological risks of Cd,Cr,Pb,As,Hg and A1 were determined with a total of 14 surficial sediments samples collected in the EH during *** contents were compared to the literature data to assess the pollution status of *** factors,Degree of contamination(mCd)and potential ecological risk were calculated as a criterion of possible *** mCd calculation produces an overall average value for a range of pollutants,in the present study the contamination factor that provides a measure of the degree of overall contamination in the surface layers in a particular sampling site may provide a better indication of the state of pollution in the EH sediments than other indicators.

Phytochemical profiling and anticancer potential of Cymbopogon citratus extract

Objective:To evaluate the anticancer potential of Cymbopogon citratus ***:GC-MS analysis was used to identify phytocomponents in the methanolic extract of Cymbopogon citratus.A fractionation method was employed to isolate and assess the bioactivity of different fractions and their cytotoxic activities against cancer cell lines HCT116,LoVo,Caco-2,and HT-29 were investigated.A dual staining method with acridine orange and ethidium bromide was used to assess the effect of the extract on cell ***,the expression levels of Bax and TP53 were quantified using real-time PCR in Caco-2 cells treated with the ethyl acetate fraction of Cymbopogon citratus extract.A protein array was employed to profile key pro-and anti-apoptotic proteins in Caco-2 ***,molecular docking studies were conducted to investigate the interactions between key compounds of Cymbopogon citratus extract and specific apoptosis-related protein domains(PDB IDs:7wql and 4bkx).Results:A significant growth inhibition was observed in Caco-2 cells treated with Cymbopogon citratus *** the seven fractions of the plant extract,the ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest cytotoxicity against Caco-2 cells with an IC50 value of(6.16±0.01)μg/*** immunofluorescence assay showed that the ethyl acetate fraction could induce apoptosis of Caco-2 ***,the fraction upregulated the gene expressions of Bax and TP53 in a dose-dependent *** docking analysis demonstrated the interaction of five compounds isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction with key proteins in Caco-2 cells,indicating their anticancer ***:Cymbopogon citratus extract shows anticancer activity against Caco-2 cells by inducing *** may be a promising candidate for the treatment of colon cancer,which needs further investigation.

Validation of a serum microRNA panel as biomarkers for early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma post-hepatitis C infection in Egyptian patients

AIM To investigate the prospective importance of serum micro(mi)RNAs(mi R-125 b, mi R-138 b, mi R-1269, mi R-214-5p, mi R-494, mi R375 and mi R-145) as early biomarkers for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS Two-hundred and fifty HCV4 a patients, 224 HCV4 aHCC patients, and 84 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Expression levels of mi R214-5p, mi R-125 b, mi R-1269 and mi R-375 were quantified using quantitative real-time *** Expression of the selected mi RNAs in serum wassignificantly lower in HCC patients than in the healthy controls, except for mi R-1269 and mi R-494. There was a significant difference between HCC and HCV patients, in particular for HCC and late stage fibrosis, rather than HCV patients and early fibrosis. It is obvious that mi R-1269 was significantly upregulated in HCC cases compared to hepatic fibrosis cases. Each mi RNA can show HCC progression. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the tested panel of mi RNAs(mi R214-5p, mi R-125 b, mi R-1269 and mi R-375) represent accurate and specific indictors of HCC *** This study presents a panel of mi RNAs with strong power as putative diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for HCV-induced HCC. Moreover, mi R-214-5p and mi R-1269 could be considered as early biomarkers for tracking the progress of liver fibrosis to HCC.

Utilizing lemon peel extract and its nano-emulsion to control aflatoxin toxicity in rats

The lemon peel is a flavonoid-hefty source and also has bioactive constituents,such as *** research was performed to assess the potential of lemon peel essential oil and its nano-emulsion as a fruit waste in protecting against aflatoxin B1-induced toxicity in experimental ***-six male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered a daily dosage of aflatoxin(80μg/kg b.w)treated with lemon peel essential oil and its nano-emulsion(100 mg/kg).all nutritional parameters,biochemical parameters,and histopathological examinations were *** results revealed severe toxicity and carcinogenicity of AFB1 established by elevation of TNF-αand IL-6 and pathogenic elevation in kidney and liver enzymes manifested by significant elevation of creatinine,urea,uric acid,AST,alT,and alP to 0.98,79.4,3.2,57.6,38,and 98.14,*** these biochemical changes were confirmed by histopathological *** these harmful changes were amended by the use of lemon peel essential oil and its nano-emulsion,which led to the conclusion that lemon peel essential oil and its nano-emulsion as a fruit waste could be a promising source for the immune-enhancing drug that could protect against aflatoxin ingestion.

Performance of Thermal Insulation of Different Composite Walls and Roofs Materials Used for Energy Efficient Building Construction in Iraq

This study numerically involves the performance of thermal insulation of different types of composite walls and roofs to demonstrate the best model that can be used for energy-efficient building construction in *** mathematical model is solved by building its code using the Transmission Matrix Method in MATLAB *** weather data of 21st July 2022 in Baghdad City/Iraq is selected as a test *** wall types are selected:the first type consists of cement mortar,brick,and gypsum,the second type consists of cement mortar,brick,gypsum,and plaster and the third type consists of cement mortar,brick,gypsum,air cavity,and sheathing *** roof types are chosen:the first type consists of reinforced concrete,gypsum,and plaster,and the second type consists of the precast concrete flag,river sand,tar,reinforced concrete,gypsum,and *** obtained solutions are compared with previous studies for the same city but with different types of walls and *** findings display that the second and third types of walls reduce the entry heat flux by 4%and 10%as compared to the first type of ***,the results indicate that the second type of roof reduces the entry heat flux by 21%as compared to the first type of *** results confirm that the best models of walls and roofs in Iraq are the third and second types,respectively,as compared to other models and hence,the performance of insulation material strongly depends on the materials used while building them.

Characterization and Catalytic Activity of New Metal-organic Frameworks Resulted from Self-assembly of Ph3SnCI, K[Cu（CN）2] and Nitrogen Donor Ligands

Five new metal-organic frameworks （MOFs） of the general composition [Ph3SnCu（CN）2.L], where L= pyrazine （pyz）（1）, methylpyrazine （mepyz）（2）, 4,4＇-bipyridine （bpy）（3）, trans-l,2-bis（4-pyridyl）ethene （tbpe）（4） or 1,2-bis（4-pyridyl）ethane （bpe）（5）, have been synthesized and characterized to test their potential applications as catalysts. The structures of the MOFs 1--5 mainly consist of Cu（CN）2 building blocks connected by the Ph3Sn cations and the bipodal ligand forming polymeric networks. They exhibit strong fluorescence in the solid state. also, they are used as heterogeneous catalysts for the degradation of azo-dyes, metanil yellow （MY） by diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide as oxidant. The reaction is first order with respect to MY dye, while the factors affecting the rate constant of the degradation reaction are investigated. The activation parameters of the reaction have been estimated and a possible mechanism has been proposed.
