We demonstrate a handheld on-chip biosensing technology that employs plasmonic microarrays coupled with a lens.f.ee computational imaging system towards multiplexed and high-throughput screening of biomolecular interactions.f.r point-of-care applications and resource-limited *** lightweight and field-portable biosensing device,weighing 60 g and 7.5 cm tall,utilizes a compact optoelectronic sensor array to record the diffraction patterns of plasmonic nanostructures under uniform illumination by a single-light emitting diode tuned to the plasmonic mode of the *** a sensitive plasmonic array design that is combined with lens.f.ee computational imaging,we demonstrate label-free and quantitative detection of biomolecules with a protein layer thickness down to 3 *** large-scale plasmonic microarrays,our on-chip imaging platform enables simultaneous detection of protein mono-and bilayers on the same platform over a wide range of biomolecule *** this handheld device,we also employ an iterative phase retrieval-based image reconstruction method,which offers the ability to digitally image a highly multiplexed array of sensors on the same plasmonic chip,making this approach especially suitable for high-throughput diagnostic applications in field settings.

Background and Aims:Utilization of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and its relationship with recipient Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) needs.f.rther evaluation in the United states (U.s.).We evaluated the association between recipient MELD score at the time of surgery and survival following ***:All *** LDLT recipients with MELDsing the 1995-2012 United Network for Organ sharing *** following LDLTwas stratified into three MELD categories (MELDsing Kaplan-Meier methods and multivariate Cox proportional hazards ***:Overall,2,258 patients underwent *** to patients with MELDsurvival following LDLT was similar among patients with MELD 15-19 (80.9% vs.80.3%,p =0.77) and MELD 20-24 (81.2% vs.80.3%,p =0.73).When compared to patients with MELDs no significant difference in long-term post-LDLT survival among those with MELD 15-19 (HR:1.11,95% CI:0.85-1.45,p =0.45) and a non-significant trend towards lower survival in patients with MELD 20-24 (HR:1.28,95%CI:0.91-1.81,p =0.16).Only 14% of LDLTs were performed in patients with MELD 20-24 and the remaining 86% in patients with MELDs underutilized in patients with MELD 20 and higher.

Human intestinal microbiota create a complex polymi-crobial ecology. This is characterised by its high population density, wide diversity and complexity of interaction. Any dysbalance of this complex intestinal microbiome, both qualitative and quantitative, might have serious health consequence for a macro-organism, including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome (sIBO).sIBO is defined as an increase in the number and/or alteration in the type of bacteria in the upper gastro-intestinal tract. There are several endogenous defence mechanisms.f.r preventing bacterial overgrowth: gastric acid secretion, intestinal motility, intact ileo-caecal valve, immunoglobulins within intestinal secretion and bacte-riostatic properties of pancreatic and biliary secretion. Aetiology of sIBO is usually complex, associated with disorders of protective antibacterial mechanisms (e.g. achlorhydria, pancreatic exocrine ins.f. iciency, immuno-deficiency syndromes), anatomical abnormalities (e.g. small intestinal obstruction, diverticula, f istulae, surgical blind loop, previous ileo-caecal resections) and/or motility disorders (e.g. scleroderma, autonomic neuropathy in diabetes mellitus, post-radiation enteropathy, small intestinal pseudo-obstruction). In some patients more than one factor may be involved. symptoms related to sIBO are bloating, diarrhoea, malabsorption, weight loss and malnutrition. The gold standard for diagnosing sIBO is still microbial investigation of jejunal aspirates. Noninvasive hydrogen and methane breath tests are most commonly used for the diagnosis of sIBO using glucose or lactulose. Therapy for sIBO must be com-plex, addressing all causes, symptoms and complica-tions, and fully individualised. It should include treatment of the underlying disease, nutritional support and cyclical gastro-intestinal selective antibiotics. Prognosis is usually serious, determined mostly by the underlying disease that led to sIBO.

The continued effect of the pyrite-tailing oxidation on the mobility of arsenic, lead, zinc, cadmium, and copper was studied in a carbonated soil under natural conditions, with the experimental plot preserved with a layer of tailing covering the soil during three years. The experimental area is located in southern spain and was affected by a pyrite-mine spill. The climate in the area is typically Mediterranean, which determines the rate of soil alteration and element mobility. The intense alteration processes that occurred in the soil during three years caused important changes in its morphology and a strong degradation of the main soil properties. In this period, lead concentrated in the first 5 mm of the soil, with concentrations higher than 1500 mg kg?1, mainly associated to the neoformation of plumbojarosite. Arsenic was partially leached from the first 5 mm and mainly concentrated between 5–10 mm in the soil, with maximum values of 1239 mg kg-1; the retention of arsenates was related to the neoformation of iron hydroxysulfates (jarosite, schwertmannite) and oxyhydroxides (goethite, ferrihydrite), both with a variable degree of crystallinity. The mobility of Zn, Cd, and Cu was highly affected by pH, producing a stronger leaching in depth; their retention was related to the forms of precipitated aluminium and, in the case of Cu, also to the neoformation of hydroxysulfate.

The degree of vessel lumen narrowing is an independent predictor of ischemic stroke. New developments in carotid plaque morphology imaging (MR, CT), may bring new insights to the relationship between carotid atherosclerotic disease and stroke risk. Our aim is to review the stroke risk in a symptomatic patient with moderate carotid stenosis by CT imaging and histopathology. A 72-year-old patient with low ABCD2 scores TIA and moderate left internal carotid stenosis (50% by carotid ultrasound), was discharged with an optimized medical therapy. four months later, he presented an ischemic stroke in the left frontal area. Carotid angiography showed a 60% stenosis in the left-internal carotid artery with a regular surface. CT plaque imaging detected a thin fibrous cap with calcification and an intraplaque hemorrhage (high-risk plaque). These findings were confirmed in the histolopathological study of the atherosclerotic plaque performed after the endarterectomy. After 1 year of follow-up, the patient returned independently to his daily activities. We propose, in this study, the inclusion of noninvasive plaque imaging in the evaluation of acute TIA with moderate carotid stenosis to better select patients with higher risk of stroke recurrence.
