Awareness and knowledge about glaucoma among patients visiting the screening clinic in Jeddah Eye hospital,Saudi Arabia

AIM:To explore levels and determinants of awareness and knowledge about glaucoma among ***:This was a cross-sectional study that included adult patients from October to the end of December 2018.A semi-structured questionnaire was designed by the researchers to measure the levels of awareness and knowledge about 18 basic information about *** sheet was divided into 4 domains:types of glaucoma,risk factors,clinical features,and management.A knowledge score(KS,range=0-18)was calculated,with higher scores indicating higher ***:A total of 383 patients responded to the questionnaire,61.9%males,mean±SD age was 38.5±12.94 years old,and 61.6%had a university degree or *** them,6.3%and 23.2%reported personal and family history of glaucoma,*** most frequently reported source of information about glaucoma was another person with glaucoma(28.2%),followed by physicians(24.8%)and TV(19.6%).Knowledge by item ranged from 3.1%to 82.5%correctness rate,while KS showed mean=5.91 and median=5;and reliability testing of the knowledge scale showed Cronbach’s alpha=*** KS were found among respondents with higher educational level(P=0.036),diabetes history(P=0.025),and personal(Phistory of ***:This study reveals low awareness and knowledge levels about glaucoma among the attendees of a local eye care hospital,where several misconceptions about disease risk factors,clinical features,and management are identified.

hepatitis B virus(hBV)is a widely prevalent liver infection that can cause acute or chronic *** current treatment modalities are highly effective in the suppression of viral levels,they cannot eliminate the virus or achieve definitive *** is a consequence of the complex nature of hBV-host *** challenges to achieving sustained viral suppression include the presence of a high viral burden from the hBV DNA and hepatitis B surface antigen(hBsAg),the presence of reservoirs for hBV replication and antigen production,and the hBV-impaired innate and adaptive immune response of the *** therapeutic methods include cell entry inhibitors,hBsAg inhibitors,gene editing approaches,immune-targeting therapies and direct inhibitors of covalently closed circular DNA(cccDNA).Novel approaches that target these key mechanisms are now being studied in preclinical and clinical *** this review article,we provide a comprehensive review on mechanisms by which hBV escapes elimination from current treatments,and highlight new agents to achieve a definitive hBV cure.

Enhancement of simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal using intermittent aeration mechanism

Biological nutrient removal grows into complicated scenario due to the microbial consortium shift and kinetic competition between phosphorus(P)-accumulating and nitrogen(N)-removing *** this study,three sequential batch reactors with constant operational conditions except aeration patterns at 6 h cycle periods were *** aeration was applied to develop a robust nutrient removal system aimed to achieve high energy saving and removal *** results showed higher correspondence of Puptake,polymeric substance synthesis and glycogen degradation in intermittent-aeration with longer interval periods compared to *** the intermittentaeration duration from 25 to 50 min,resulted in higher process performance where the system exhibited approximately 30%higher nutrient *** study indicated that nutrient removal strongly depends on reaction phase configuration representing the importance of aeration *** microbial community examined the variation in abundance of bacterial groups in suspended sludge,where the 50 min intermittent aeration,favored the growth of P-accumulating organisms and nitrogen removalmicrobial groups,indicating the complications related to nutrient removal *** intermittently aerated process with high capability of simple implementation to conventional systems by elemental retrofitting,is applicable for upgrading wastewater treatment *** aeration as a major operational cost,this process is a promising approach to potentially remove nutrients in high competence,in distinction to optimizing cost-efficacy of the system.

Dynamic Threshold-Based Approach to Detect Low-Rate DDoS Attacks on Software-Defined Networking Controller

The emergence of a new network architecture,known as Software Defined Networking(SDN),in the last two decades has overcome some drawbacks of traditional networks in terms of performance,scalability,reliability,security,and network ***,the SDN is vulnerable to security threats that target its controller,such as low-rate Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)attacks,The low-rate DDoS attack is one of the most prevalent attacks that poses a severe threat to SDN network security because the controller is a vital architecture ***,there is an urgent need to propose a detection approach for this type of attack with a high detection rate and low false-positive ***,this paper proposes an approach to detect low-rate DDoS attacks on the SDN controller by adapting a dynamic *** proposed approach has been evaluated using four simulation scenarios covering a combination of low-rate DDoS attacks against the SDN controller involving(i)a single host attack targeting a single victim;(ii)a single host attack targeting multiple victims;(iii)multiple hosts attack targeting a single victim;and(iv)multiple hosts attack targeting multiple *** proposed approach’s average detection rates are 96.65%,91.83%,96.17%,and 95.33%for the above scenarios,respectively;and its average false-positive rates are 3.33%,8.17%,3.83%,and 4.67%for similar scenarios,*** comparison between the proposed approach and two existing approaches showed that it outperformed them in both categories.

Mosquito autogeny in Aedes caspius （Diptera： Culicidae）： alterations of larval nourishments reservation upon bacterial infection

The present study recorded mosquito autogeny for the first time amongst Aedes caspius species in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Laboratory rearing showed an obligatory autogenous species of Ae. caspius since it foregoes blood feeding during its first ovarian cycle, even in the presence of the hosts （CD mouse）, but produces its second egg batch only if ingested a blood meal. Both morphological and molecular identification confirmed that both autogenous and anautogenous strains belong to the same species of Ae. caspius. Data from biochemical analysis showed significant 2, 1.6, and 1.4 folds higher total carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids reserves respectively in the fourth larval instar of the autogenous strain compared to that of the anautogenous ones. In addition, exposing the fourth larval instars of autogenous strain to the infection stress by the mosquito larvicidal bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki has significantly reduced total carbohydrates, proteins and lipids reserves by 29%, 35%, and 46%, respectively, at 12 h postinfection compared to those of uninfected ones. These reductions in nourishment reserves were more pronounced at 24 h postinfection in the case of proteins and lipids, but not carbohydrates. These results may indicate that bacterial infection is a health stress that significantly reduced nourishments reservation, which may interrupt the success of adult autogeny. however, the impact of infection-induced decline in larval nourishments reservation on successful adult autogeny is still to be investigated.

Effect of concrete buildings on the environmental neutron flux by using the reaction ^(197)Au (n,γ) ^(198)Au and extremely low level gamma ray spectroscopy

The activation of gold by environmental neutrons through the reaction 197Au (n,γ) 198Au was used to study the effect of concrete buildings on the neutron flux, and to estimate the thermal neutron flux inside and outside these buildings. The results showed that three ceilings of thickness 34 g/cm2 decrease the fast neutrons to 26% from its original value. however, the same reinforced concrete decreases the slow neturon flux to only 62% of its original value. The thermal neutron flux at 283 m from the center of Training Reactor of Kinki University, was twice higher than the environmental neutron background.

Variation of environmental neutron flux with altitude and depth of both water and soil

Applying the extreme low-level γ-ray spectroscopic analysis the environmental neutron flux is measured using different moderator construction and environment through the reaction 197Au (n, γ) 198Au. The contribution of thermal and resonance neutrons is separated using the cadmium difference technique, while fast neutrons are measured by the paraffin moderator. The results of altitude dependence of the neutron flux are discussed. The thermal neutron flux near the surface of sea water is less than its value at 100 cm over ground near sea water, while the value over the surfaces of fresh water is higher than that near the surface of sea water. Also the thermal neutron flux at 5 cm soil depth increases, then decreases to its original value at 10 cm depth and still constant until 25 cm, then decreases rapidly to reach 27% of its original value at 60 cm depth. The soil compositions, corresponding neutron temperatures and effective absorption cross sections of earth are the most effective factors on the equilibrium region of thermal neutrons in the ground.

The Ni catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3 were synthesized by an impregnation *** catalytic performance in methane dry reforming was *** reforming reactions were carried out in a microreactor using a CO2:Ch4 feed ratio of 1:1,a F/W = 2640 ml/(h·g),reaction temperatures between 500-850 ?C,and at atmospheric *** influence of Ca,Ce,and Zr promoters on catalyst stability,coke deposition,and the h2/CO ratio were also *** were analyzed using an online gas chromatograph equipped with a thermal conductivity *** spent and fresh catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric *** was found that 3%Ni/γ-Al2O3 promoted with 0.15% Ce and 0.05% Ca gave the best performance and resulted in less coke *** highest Ch4 and CO2 conversion activities were found to be 94.1% and 98.3% at 850 ?C,*** tests were carried out for 130 h and this provided a h2 yield of 91%.Moreover,the amount of formed carbon was negligible and did not increase to more than 1.5 wt%.
