Objective:To monitor the levels of aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) enzymes and testosterone hormone in months and seasons of ***: In this experiment, 20 (2.0-3.5 years old) Iraqi Awassi rams were used which were housed in semi opened shade. Blood samples (2-3 mL) were collected once a week for over period 12 mo. AST and ALT activities were measured by using colorimetric method, and testesterone analysis was performed with an automatic ***: The activities of both AST and ALT enzymes were increased significantly (P<0.05) during summer, on monthly basis, June showed the significantly highest value (P<0.05). The present study revealed that testosterone in autumn and summer was recorded significantly highest (P<0.05) in comparison with other seasons and on monthly basis the significant (P<0.05) highest level of testosterone was found between September and August ***: AST and ALT enzymes are the highest during summer, and on monthly basis they are the highest in June, while testosterone level is recorded highest in autumn season, and on monthly basis November shows the highest value.

Objective:To evaluate the cryoprotective effect of butylated hydroxytoluene on buck frozen ***:Semen was collected from Boer(n=6)and Zaraibi(n=6)bucks by electroejaculator for 5 *** aliquots were diluted at 38℃in Tris-buffer with egg yolk 15.0%(vol/vol)(Tris-egg yolk extender)or soya lecithin 2.5%(weight/vol)(Tris-soya lecithin extender)supplemented with butylated hydroxytoluene at 0.0(as the control),0.5,1.0,2.0 and 4.0 ***-thawing motility(at 400×magnification),plasma(hypo-osmotic swelling test),acrosome(Trypan blue/Giemsa dual staining)membranes,DNA(comet assay),and lipid peroxidation(by malondialdehyde concentration)were ***:Spermatozoa motility was enhanced by butylated hydroxytoluene in Tris-soya lecithin extender at 0.5 mM in the two breeds,and in Tris-egg yolk extender at 1.0 mM in Boer and at 2.0 mM in Zaraibi bucks for up to 3 h *** and acrosome membranes and DNA integrity of the two breeds were maximally high with butylated hydroxytoluene at 1.0-2.0 mM in Tris-egg yolk extender and at 0.5-1.0 mM in Tris-soya lecithin *** peroxidation was minimal with butylated hydroxytoluene at 1.0-2.0 mM in Tris-egg yolk and soya lecithin extenders in the two *** hydroxytoluene at 4.0 mM deteriorated spermatozoa motility,and plasma and acrosome ***:The consequence of butylated hydroxytoluene on buck frozen-thawed spermatozoa varies with the levels of supplementation,buck breed,and phospholipid source in the *** parameters of Boer buck are better in their response to butylated hydroxytoluene than Zaraibi *** hydroxytoluene at 1.0 and 2.0 mM in Tris-egg yolk extender,and at 0.5 mM in Tris-soya lecithin extender represents the best concentrations and profitably improves the semen quality of buck semen.

The Gulf of Aqaba (GOA) is unique as it contains significant percentage of the world’s natural marine biodiversity. This unique environment is potentially vulnerable to pollution particularly at its northern tip. One of the major activities affecting the environment of the gulf is the man-made desalination plants that abstract sea water and dispose desalinated brine. In this context, the paper discusses the impact of the abstract and disposal activities on the GOA environment. A 3D hydrodynamic model was developed to cover the GOA. Relevant data were collected for 3D hydrodynamic modeling construction. Delft-3D model developed by Deltares was applied in this study. The 3D model reliability was confirmed since the model results have revealed the existence of a structure of primary eddies along the axis of the Gulf which was previously reported by different researchers. Further numerical simulations were carried out by incorporating various alternatives of seawater abstraction and desalinated brine disposal off the north and north east coast of the GOA. The developed GOA hydrodynamic model, at the present stage, is preliminary where the results provide qualitative assessment on the potential impacts on the water circulation. Accordingly, this study is considered a pace ahead for a better model development and validation in the future studies.

The Egyptian Pharaonic temples are traditionally made of different stones (limestone granite, diorite, or sandstone and quartzite) shaped into large heavy blocks or as Colossal statues. One of these is the colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III at Karnak temple which made out of red quartzite from Gebel el-Ahmar, located at north-east of Cairo. Quartzite is one of the famous stones that were widely used during the heights of ancient Egyptian civilization. The Colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III were subjected to many exogenous and endogenous deterioration factors which causes of a severe damage of the stone materials. In this study we documented the weathering of these quartzite colossal statues using field recording and laboratory analysis to evaluate their conservation state. Weathering and deterioration aspects noted through light optical microscope (LOM), polarizing microscope (PM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The mineralogical characterization was performed using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Energy dispersive analysis (EDX). The mineralogy and weathering study of quartzite on the Colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III illustrate a succession of geochemical processes which have taken place at the colossi and it revealed that, they need for quick intervention.

New Non-Invasive Index for Detecting Esophageal Varices in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis

Introduction: Many studies have shown that clinical, biochemical and ultrasonographic parameter are predictive of the presence and grading of esophageal varices. Aim of Study: Validation of a noninvasive test called P2/MS and its comparison with other noninvasive tests for the detection of high risk esophageal varices. Patients and Methods: We prospectively enrolled 125 consecutive patients with liver cirrhosis. Complete blood count [CBC], Platelet count by direct method, Liver functions [serum bilirubin, AST, ALT, prothrombin time and concentration and serum albumin], kidney functions, hepatitis markers for B & C, abdominal ultrasonography and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were done for each patient. Calculation of P2/MS [Platelet count)2/{monocyte fraction (%) × segmented neutrophil fraction (%)], API [age-platelet index], APRI [AST-to-platelet ratio index], SPRI [spleen-to-platelet ratio index], ASPRI [age-spleen-to-platelet ratio index] scores and correlating the different scores with the grade of esophageal varices found on upper endoscopy. Results: During processing of our patient’s data, we found certain relation between segmented neutrophils, monocytes, platelet count, total bilirubin and the degree of esophageal varices for the detection of high risk varices and a new equation was formulated and we called it P2/MS-B. In predicting high risk esophageal varices HREV, the area under the curve for this new variable was [0.909, 95% confidence interval 0.858 - 0.961, p = 0.000] which was significantly higher than all the other variables including P2/MS for the detection of HREV. The sensitivity of the new equation for the detection of HREV is 85.3%, the specificity is 83.1%, the positive predictive value is 87.9%, the negative predicative value is 86.0 % and the overall accuracy of the test is 85.6%.
