An Improved Lung Cancer Segmentation Based on Nature-Inspired Optimization Approaches

The distinction and precise identification of tumor nodules are crucial for timely lung cancer diagnosis andplanning intervention. This research work addresses the major issues pertaining to the field of medical imageprocessing while focusing on lung cancer Computed Tomography (CT) images. In this context, the paper proposesan improved lung cancer segmentation technique based on the strengths of nature-inspired approaches. Thebetter resolution of CT is exploited to distinguish healthy subjects from those who have lung cancer. In thisprocess, the visual challenges of the K-means are addressed with the integration of four nature-inspired swarmintelligent techniques. The techniques experimented in this paper are K-means with Artificial Bee Colony (ABC),K-means with Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), K-means with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Kmeanswith Firefly Algorithm (FFA). The testing and evaluation are performed on Early Lung Cancer ActionProgram (ELCAP) database. The simulation analysis is performed using lung cancer images set against metrics:precision, sensitivity, specificity, f-measure, accuracy,Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC), Jaccard, and *** detailed evaluation shows that the K-means with Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) significantly improved thequality of lung cancer segmentation in comparison to the other optimization approaches utilized for lung cancerimages. The results exhibit that the proposed approach (K-means with CSA) achieves precision, sensitivity, and Fmeasureof 0.942, 0.964, and 0.953, respectively, and an average accuracy of 93%. The experimental results prove thatK-meanswithABC,K-meanswith PSO,K-meanswith FFA, andK-meanswithCSAhave achieved an improvementof 10.8%, 13.38%, 13.93%, and 15.7%, respectively, for accuracy measure in comparison to K-means segmentationfor lung cancer images. Rapeseed(Brassica napus L.) is the second most widely grown premium oilseed crop globally, mainly for its vegetable oil and protein meal. One of the main goals of breeders is producing high-yield rapeseed cultivars with sustainable production to meet the requirements of the fast-growing population. Besides the pod number, seeds per silique(SS), and thousand-seed weight(TSW), the ovule number(ON) is a decisive yield determining factor of individual plants and the final seed yield. In recent years, tremendous efforts have been made to dissect the genetic and molecular basis of these complex traits, but relatively few genes or loci controlling these traits have been reported thus far. This review highlights the updated information on the hormonal and molecular basis of ON and development in model plants(Arabidopsis thaliana). It also presents what is known about the hormonal, molecular, and genetic mechanism of ovule development and number, and bridges our understanding between the model plant species(A. thaliana) and cultivated species(B. napus). This report will open new pathways for primary and applied research in plant biology and benefit rapeseed breeding programs. This synopsis will stimulate research interest to further understand ovule number determination, its role in yield improvement, and its possible utilization in breeding programs.

Barley chitinase genes expression revamp resistance against whitefly (Bemisia Tabaci) in transgenic cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Background Chitinase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes chitin,a major component of the exoskeleton of insects,including plant pests like *** present study aimed to investigate the expression of chemically synthesized barley ch1 and chi2 genes in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum)through Agrobacterium-mediated ***-five putative transgenic cotton plants were obtained,out of which fifteen plants successfully survived and were shifted to the *** gene-specific primers,amplification of 447 bp and 401 bp fragments confirmed the presence of the ch1 and chi2 genes in five transgenic cotton plants of the T0 *** five plants were further evalu-ated for their mRNA expression *** T0 transgenic cotton plants with the highest mRNA expression level and better yield performance in field,were selected to raise their subsequent *** The T1 cotton plants showed the highest mRNA expression levels of 3.5-fold in P10(2)for the ch1 gene and 3.7-fold in P2(1)for the chi2 *** in situ hybridization(FISH)confirmed a single copy number of ch1 and chi2(hemizygous)on chromosome ***,the efficacy of transgenes on whitefly was evaluated through an insect bioassay,where after 96 h of infestation,mortality rates of whitefly were calculated to be 78%–80%in transgenic cotton *** number of eggs on transgenic cotton plants were calculated to be 0.1%–0.12 per plant compared with the non-transgenic plants where egg number was calculated to be 0.90–1.00 per *** Based on these findings,it can be concluded that the chemically synthesized barley chitinase genes(ch1 and chi2)have the potential to be effective against insects with chitin exoskeletons,including *** transgenic cotton plants expressing these genes showed increased resistance to whiteflies,resulting in reduced egg numbers and higher mortality rates.

In this work,the evolution of a highly unstable m=1 resistive tearing mode,leading to plasmoid formation in a Harris sheet,is studied in the framework of full MHD model using the Non-Ideal Magnetohydrodynamics with Rotation,Open Discussion *** the initial nonlinear growth of the primary m=1 island,the X-point develops into a secondary elongated current sheet that eventually breaks into *** distinctive viscous regimes are found for the plasmoid formation and *** the low viscosity regime(i.e.P_(r)■1),the plasmoid width increases sharply with viscosity,whereas in the viscosity dominant regime(i.e.P_(r)■1),the plasmoid size gradually decreases with *** a finding quantifies the role of viscosity in modulating the plasmoid formation process through its effects on the plasma flow and the reconnection itself.

Clustering in the presence of side information: a non-linear approach

Purpose–Constrained clustering is an important recent development in clustering *** goal of an algorithm in constrained clustering research is to improve the quality of clustering by making use of background *** purpose of this paper is to suggest a new perspective for constrained clustering,by finding an effective transformation of data into target space on the reference of background knowledge given in the form of pairwise must-and cannot-link ***/methodology/approach–Most of existing methods in constrained clustering are limited to learn a distance metric or kernel matrix from the background knowledge while looking for transformation of data in target *** previous efforts,the author presents a non-linear method for constraint clustering,whose basic idea is to use different non-linear functions for each dimension in target ***–The outcome of the paper is a novel non-linear method for constrained clustering which uses different non-linearfunctions for each dimension in target *** proposed method for a particular case is formulated and explained for quadratic *** reduce the number of optimization parameters,the proposed method is modified to relax the quadratic function and approximate it by a factorized version that is easier to *** results on synthetic and real-world data demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed ***/value–This study proposes a new direction to the problem of constrained clustering by learning a non-linear transformation of data into target space without using kernel *** work will assist researchers to start development of new methods based on the proposed framework which will potentially provide them with new research topics.

An Efficient Solid Acid Promoted Synthesis of Quinoxaline Derivatives at Room Temperature

Quinoxaline derivatives have been synthesized in a very short time with excellent yields by the condensation of 1,2-diamines with aliphatic or aromatic 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds or benzilmonoxime in the presence of silica sulfuric acid as a very inexpensive solid acid catalyst at room temperature. The recovery and reuse of the catalyst are also satisfactory.
