This study introduces the Orbit Weighting Scheme(OWS),a novel approach aimed at enhancing the precision and efficiency of Vector Space information retrieval(IR)models,which have traditionally relied on weighting schemes like tf-idf and *** conventional methods often struggle with accurately capturing document relevance,leading to inefficiencies in both retrieval performance and index size *** proposes a dynamic weighting mechanism that evaluates the significance of terms based on their orbital position within the vector space,emphasizing term relationships and distribution patterns overlooked by existing *** research focuses on evaluating OWS’s impact on model accuracy using Information Retrieval metrics like Recall,Precision,InterpolatedAverage Precision(IAP),andMeanAverage Precision(MAP).Additionally,we assessOWS’s effectiveness in reducing the inverted index size,crucial for model *** compare OWS-based retrieval models against others using different schemes,including tf-idf variations and *** reveal OWS’s superiority,achieving a 54%Recall and 81%MAP,and a notable 38%reduction in the inverted index *** highlights OWS’s potential in optimizing retrieval processes and underscores the need for further research in this underrepresented area to fully leverage OWS’s capabilities in information retrieval methodologies.

The fast and maximum thermal neutron fluxes from the DD-109 neutron generator at the University of Sharjah were experimentally measured by the activation technique using different neutron reactions. The thermal and fast neutron fluxes were found to be 2.960 × 10~6 and6.186 × 10~7 n/cm^2 s, respectively. This was done to verify the modeling results for the optimum moderator thickness needed to maximize the thermal neutron flux. The optimum moderator thickness was found to be between 3.5 and4 cm. The present data were compared with the detailed MCNP model-based calculation performed in earlier work to simulate the generator.

Stepper motor driven systems are widely used in industrial applications. They are mainly used for their low cost open-loop high performance. However, as dynamic systems need to be increasingly faster and their motion more precise, it is important to have an open-loop system which is accurate and reliable. In this paper, we present a novel technique in which a genetic algorithm （GA） based lookup table approach is used to find the optimal stepping sequence of an open-loop stepper motor system. The optimal sequence objective is to minimize residual vibration and to accurately follow trajectory. A genetic algorithm is used to find the best stepping sequence which minimizes the error and improves the system performance. Numerical simulation has showed the effectiveness of our approach to improve the system performance for both position and velocity. The optimized system reduced the residual vibration and was able to follow the trajectory with minimal error.

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to propose an algorithm that combines the particle swarm optimization(PSO)with the biogeography-based optimization(BBO)***/methodology/approach–The BBO and the PSO algorithms are jointly used in to order to combine the advantages of both *** efficiency of the proposed algorithm is tested using some selected standard benchmark *** performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with that of the differential evolutionary(DE),genetic algorithm(GA),PSO,BBO,blended BBO and hybrid BBO-DE ***–Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the BBO,PSO,DE,GA,and the blended BBO algorithms and has comparable performance to that of the hybrid BBO-DE ***,the proposed algorithm is simpler than the BBO-DE algorithm since the PSO does not have complex operations such as mutation and crossover used in the DE ***/value–The proposed algorithm is a generic algorithm that can be used to efficiently solve optimization problems similar to that solved using other popular evolutionary algorithms but with better performance.

Analytical Modeling of a Multi-queue Nodes Network Router

This paper presents the derivation of an analytical model for a multi-queue nodes network router, which is referred to as the multi-queue nodes （mQN） model. In this model, expressions are derived to calculate two performance metrics, namely, the queue node and system utilization factors. In order to demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the mQN model in analyzing the performance of an mQN network router, two scenarios are performed. These scenarios investigated the variation of queue nodes and system utilization factors against queue nodes dropping probability for various system sizes and packets arrival routing probabilities. The performed scenarios demonstrated that the mQN analytical model is more flexible and effective when compared with experimental tests and computer simulations in assessing the performance of an mQN network router.

In a recent paper, Noor and Khan [M. Aslam Noor, & W. A. Khan, (2012) New Iterative Methods for Solving Nonlinear Equation by Using Homotopy Perturbation Method, Applied Mathematics and Computation, 219, 3565-3574], suggested a fourth-order method for solving nonlinear equations. Per iteration in this method requires two evaluations of the function and two of its first derivatives;therefore, the efficiency index is 1.41421 as Newton’s method. In this paper, we modified this method and obtained a family of iterative methods for appropriate and suitable choice of the parameter. It should be noted that per iteration for the new methods requires two evaluations of the function and one evaluation of its first derivatives, so its efficiency index equals to 1.5874. Analysis of convergence shows that the methods are fourth-order. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance of the presented methods.
