In this letter,a titanium aluminum carbide(Ti_(3)AlC_(2))coated D-shaped fiber is proposed and demonstrated as a new saturable absorber(SA)for Q-switched laser pulse *** preparing the SA,the TiAlCpowder is dispersed in liquid polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)before the solution is dropped and left to dry onto a polished surface of D-shape *** SA is added to an erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)cavity to modulate the cavity loss for *** Q-switched laser is obtained at 1561 *** pulse width of the pulses can be varied between 7.4μs and 5.1μs with a corresponding repetition rate range from 41.26 k Hz to 54.35 k Hz,when the pump power is increased from 42.2 m W to 71.5 m *** 71.5 m W pump,the pulse energy is obtained at 70.3 n *** signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of the fundamental frequency is recorded at 67 d B,which indicates the stability of the laser.

Passively Q-switched thulium doped fiber laser(TDFL)has been successfully demonstrated using gold nanoparticles(GNPs),which were embedded into polyvinyl alcohol as saturable absorber(SA).The stable self-starting Q-switched laser was generated to operate at 1891 nm when a tiny piece of the prepared film was slot in between two fiber ferrules and incorporated into the laser *** repetition rate can be adjusted from 48.54 kHz to 49.64 kHz while the pulse width decreased from 3.52μs to 2.38μs with the increase of 1550 nm pump power from 840 m W to 930 m *** corresponding pump power output power linearly increased from 3.62 m W to 6.3 m W with a slope efficiency of 2.53%.The maximum peak power and pulse energy were recorded at about 39 m W and 0.12μJ,respectively at pump power of 930 m *** Q-switching operation was caused by the surface plasmon resonance absorption of GNPs.

Q-switched erbium doped fiber laser(EDFL)was passively realized using vanadium pentoxide(V_(2)O_(5))embedded into polyethylene glycol(PEG)film as saturable absorber(SA).The laser could successfully generate stable self-starting pulses when the V_(2)O_(5)film was placed in an EDFL *** operated at 1562.4 nm *** repetition rate can be varied from 91.7 kHz to 128.2 kHz while the pulse width shrank from 10.90μs to 7.81μs with rising pump power from 110.9 mW to 166.5 *** pulse energy recorded was 3.2 nJ at pump power of 166.5 *** results indicate that the saturable absorption of V_(2)O_(5)has promising nonlinear photonic applications especially in fiber laser development for 1.5-μm region.

We have successfully demonstrated a stable dual-wavelength Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL) using a single mode fiber-multimode fiber-single mode fiber(SMF-MMF-SMF) structure-based filter. Using a graphene oxide(GO) saturable absorber(SA) to modulate the cavity loss, passive Q-switching of the dual-wavelength laser is achieved at 1 549.6 nm and 1 558.6 nm. The laser recorded the shortest pulse width of about 2.9 μs, the maximum pulse repetition rate of 65.27 kHz and the maximum average output power of 0.99 mW at pump power of 225.1 mW. The present laser has the maximum pulse energy of 15.17 nJ. A 2 SMF-MMF-SMF structure has been experimentally confirmed to be very promising as a wavelength filter.

In this paper,we have successfully demonstrated a Q-switched pulse generation utilizing lutetium oxide(Lu2O3)thin film based saturable absorber(SA)in all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)cavity with a bidirectional *** Lu2O3 powder is mixed with isopropyl alcohol(IPA)solution before we add polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)as our host polymer to make the Lu2O3 into a thin *** inserting the Lu2O3-PVA thin film into a bidirectional pumped EDFL cavity,a stable Q-switched pulse is realized with repetition rate in a range of rose from 43.67 k Hz to 57.74 k Hz whereas the pulse width decreased from 14.48μs to 11.20μ*** result indicates that the Lu2O3 can be implemented as an SA device in an EDFL as it owns a linear absorption of around 3 d B at 1567 nm.
