Laser action in methyl methacrylate （mmA） co-doped with sulforhodamine B and crystal violet dyes was investi- gated. The dye mixture was incorporated into a solid polymeric matrix and was pumped by a 532-nm Nd：YAG laser. Distributed feedback dye laser （DFDL） action was induced in the dye mixture using a prism arrangement both in the donor and acceptor regions by an energy transfer mechanism. Theoretically, the characteristics of acceptor and donor DFDLs, and the dependence of their pulse widths and output powers on acceptor-donor concentrations and pump power, were studied. Experimentally, the output energy of DFDL was measured at the emission peaks of donor and acceptor dyes for different pump powers and different acceptor-donor concentrations. Tuning of the output wavelength was achieved by varying the period of the gain modulation of the laser medium. The laser wavelength showed continuous tunability from 563 nm to 648 nm.

The physico-chemical parameters of Euphrates River water were studied between Heet and Ramadi cities during November 2008 to June 2009. Water were samples collected from eleven stations and analyzed for Temperature, Turbidity, Electrical conductivity (EC), Total suspended solids (TSS), pH, Total dissolved salts (TDS), Dissolved oxygen (DO), Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Sulphate, Phosphate, Bicarbonates, Chloride, Nitrate and Total hardness. The observed values of these physico-chemical parameters were compared with WHO standards. Some parameters (Turbidity, TSS, TDS, BOD, Calcium, Sodium and Total hardness) exceeded the permissible limits of WHO standards, while other parameters were within the permissible limits. Statistical studies have been carried out by calculating correlation coefficients between different pairs of parameters. monthly and spatial variations of physico-chemical parameters were investigated.

AIm: Sargassum wightii Greville is a marine brown alga belonging to the Sargassaceae family which has about 200 species. The ethanolic extract of the whole dry plant powder contained numerous phytoconstituents, including flavonoids. The study was focused on the anticancer activity of Sargassum wightii in mice. mETHOD: The ethanolic extract of Sargassum wightii(EESW) at two dose levels was used to examine the anticancer activity in mice using Dal cell lines to induce cancer. The body weight, viable and non-viable tumor cell count, mean survival time, increase in life span, and hematological parameters were observed for anticancer activity of EESW. RESULTS: The intraperitoneal inoculation of Dal cells in mice significantly increased cancer cell count. The decrease in the cancer cell number observed in the EESW-treated group cancer animals indicates that the test drug has a significant inhibitory effect on the tumor cell proliferation. Treatment with EESW also showed a significant decrease in tumor weight, and hence increased the lifespan of Dal-treated mice. In addition, EESW administration significantly restored the hematological parameters in Dal-treated mice. CONCLUSION: The present study results suggest that administration of extract offers enhanced antioxidant potential. Therefore it can be concluded from this study that EESW possesses anticancer activity.

Greenhouse vegetable production in Canadian Prairies is important for creating a sustainable regional food economy,especially in northern *** study included the estimation of heating demand for year-round production and evaluation of the economic feasibility of greenhouse vegetable production(tomato,cucumber,and pepper)in a conceptually designed greenhouse(0.6 ha)located in remote northern communities in Saskatchewan,*** heating simulation was based on a greenhouse heating simulation model(GREENHEAT)developed by the authors *** simulation results showed that the annual heating requirement for the production of tomato,cucumber,and pepper are 1486 mJ m^2,1657 mJ m^2,and 1754 mJ m^2,*** economic analysis indicates the net return(NR)from the production of tomato,cucumber,and pepper,are C$69.2/m^2(in Canadian dollar,CAD),C$41.5/m^2,and C$43.8/m^2,respectively,based on the market price C$3.5/kg,C$2.7/kg,and C$8.0/kg,and yields of 55.0 kg m^-2,65.0 kg m^-2,and 23.0 kg m^-*** net present value(NPV)for the tomato,cucumber,and pepper production are C$1.9 m,C$1.2 m,and C$1.1 m,respectively,and the benefit-cost ratio(BCR)are 1.38,1.21,and *** economic feasibility analysis indicates the year-round production of vegetables in a greenhouse at remote northern Saskatchewan would be economically profitable.

The K-means method is one of the most widely used clustering methods and has been implemented in many fields of science and technology. One of the major problems of the k-means algorithm is that it may produce empty clusters depending on initial center vectors. Genetic algorithms (GAs) are adaptive heuristic search algorithm based on the evolutionary principles of natural selection and genetics. This paper presents a hybrid version of the k-means algorithm with GAs that efficiently eliminates this empty cluster problem. Results of simulation experiments using several data sets prove our claim.

The integration between engineering and knowledge systems （KS） in a manufacturing environment in a network of industrial enterprises was investigated. The drivers for this application of engineering design to infrastructure in an industrial setting where cost and time to market are vital were to spread best practice, and to gain experience in dealing with the regulatory authorities according to ISO 14000. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the industrial wastewater treatment plant of the Hilla Textile Factories, to find an appropriate method of treating the industrial wastewater so as to render it fit for reuse or safe to be disposed of as stipulated by the Iraqi laws on effluent disposal. The removal efficiencies of the different parameters used to describe water quality was low. It was found that the removal efficiency of COD （Chemical Oxygen Demand） was 20-21%, that of BOD （Biochemical Oxygen Demand） was 17-30% and that of TSS （Total Suspended Solids） was 27-31%. The quality of the effluent was not in line with those of either the Iraqi or American standards.

The coastal region of the Suez Gulf, is one of the most densely industrialized zones in Egypt. In order to assess the quality of Suez Gulf coastal waters for the sustainable use and development, and consequently for the national income, 12 field campaigns were carried out in 3 years (2011-2013). The results of beach litter cleared out that the shoreline of the Suez Gulf, especially Ras Gharib area was subjected to many factors which undoubtedly affected the rate of man-made litter accumulation. The most abundant visible items were general litter as they represented 30.64% of the total items encountered. Oil, seaweeds as well as old and new tar constituted 15.41%, 14.85% and 11.84%, respectively. The increase on the levels of water temperature, Chl-a, TSm, DO, BOD, DOm, COD, ammonium ion, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, silicate and total nitrogen developed a eutrophic region. In general, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) species were almost 9 times higher in the northern parts compared to the south-ern ones revealing that the northern parts of the Gulf were more affected by human impacts compared to the southern area. moreover, concentrations of most studied metals such as Zn, mn, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb, and Hg were higher in Northern parts com-pared to southern parts of the Gulf. The concentrations of dissolved metals in the northern and southern Suez Gulf followed the following order: Fe ≥ Zn ≥ Cu > Pb > mn > Ni > Cr > Cd ≥ Hg. Except for Hg, concentrations of metals were in the accepta-ble ranges recommended internationally. Hg concentrations especially in the northern Suez Gulf were slightly higher than the permissible levels. As the northern parts of the Gulf were more suffered from oil pollution, total petroleum hydrocarbons revealed higher concentrations in the northern parts compared to the southern parts of the Gulf. Seasonal variations, on the other hand, indicated higher levels of DO, BOD, DOm and COD, chloropyll-a, TSm, ammonia, nitrate, total nitrogen
