Vapour Treatment Method Against Other Pyro-and Hydrometallurgical Processes Applied to Recover Platinum From Used Auto Catalytic Converters

Today more and more cars are produced every year. All of them have to be equipped with catalytic converters, the main role of which is to obtain substances harmless to the environment instead of exhausted gases. Catalytic converters contain platinum group metals （PGM） especially platinum, palladium and rhodium. The price of these metals and their increasing demand are the reasons why today it is necessary to recycle used auto catalytic converters. There are many available methods of recovering PGM metals from them, especially platinum. These methods used mainly hydrometallurgical processes; however pyrometallurgical ones become more and more popular. The article presents results of the research mainly concerning pyrometallurgical processes. Two groups of research were carried out. In the first one different metals such as lead, magnesium and copper were used as a metal collector. During the tests, platinum went to those metals forming an alloy. In other research metal vapours were blown through catalytic converter carrier （grinded or whole）. In the tests metals such as calcium, magnesium, cadmium and zinc were applied. As a result white or grey powder （metal plus platinum） was obtained. The tables present results of the research. Processing parameters and conclusions are also shown. To compare efficiency of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods catalytic converter carrier and samples of copper with platinum obtained from pyrometallurgical method were solved in aqua regia, mixture of aqua regia and fluoric acid.

Sorption Properties of Hard Coals with Regard to Gases Present in the Mine Atmosphere

In this study, the sorption capacities of hard coals with reference to gases present in the mine atmosphere： carbon dioxide, methane, ethane, ethene, propane, propene, carbon monoxide and hydrogen were examined. For laboratory tests, 4 samples of hard coals collected from exploitable coal seams were selected. Among considered gases the mostly sorbed is carbon dioxide, in slightly smaller amounts are sorbed unsaturated hydrocarbons： ethene and propene. Their large sorption results from i.a. interactions of ？ electrons in the double bond between carbon atoms in the ethene or propene molecules with energetic centers of the coal surface. The amounts of the sorbed saturated hydrocarbons： ethane and propane are small, which is probably related to the adsorption mechanism of their sorption by coals. In the smallest amounts are sorbed hydrogen and carbon monoxide, the values of their sorption being maximum 5% of hard coals sorption capacity in relation to carbon dioxide. Based on the experiments it was found that the largest amounts of gases are sorbed by lowrank, highly porous coals with high oxygen content. The process of sorption of unsaturated hydrocarbons： ethene and propene can lead to a reduction in concentration of those gases in the mine atmosphere and thus may affect correctness of the self-heating phenomenon assessment.

Mapping cultural ecosystem services in mountain forests using mobile phone data

The aim of the work was to determine the spatial distribution of activity in the forest on the area of the Forest Promotional Complex“Sudety Zachodnie”using mobile phone *** study identified the sites with the highest(hot spot)and lowest(cold spot)***,stand,demographic,topographic and spatial factors affecting the distribution of activity were also *** approaches were applied in our research:global and local Moran’s coefficients,and a machine learning technique,Boosted Regression *** results show that 11,503,320 visits to forest areas were recorded in the“Sudety Zachodnie”in *** most popular season for activities was winter,and the least popular was *** global and local Moran’s I coefficients,three small hot clusters of activity and one large cold cluster were *** with high values with similar neighbours(hot-spots)were most often visited forest areas,averaging almost 200,000 visits over *** fewer visits were recorded in cold-spots,the average number of visits to these areas was about 4,*** value of global Moran’s I was equal to 0.54 and proved significant positive spatial *** of Boosted Regression Trees modeling of visits in forest,using tree stand habitat and spatial factors accurately explained 76%of randomly selected input *** variables that had the greatest effect on the distribution of activities were the density of hiking and biking trails and diversity of *** methodology presented in this article allows delineation of Cultural Ecosystem Services hot spots in forest areas based on mobile phone *** also allows the identification of factors that may influence the distribution of visits in *** data are important for managing forest areas and adapting forest management to the needs of society while maintaining ecosystem stability.

Mathematical modeling of surface deformations caused by underground mining operation is commonly carried out with use of empirical,numerical or stochastic *** of the most frequently applied model for prediction of ground deformation in many countries is Knothe *** model developed by Knothe belongs to the stochastic methods and is based on the influence *** China a prediction method named Probability Integration Method(PIF)was established by Liu Baochen and Liao Guohua based on the stochastic medium *** version of that model allows to predict ground movements caused by mining operation in extremely complex technical and geological *** model is commonly applied for coal,metal ore and salt *** article presents several modifications of the mathematical model used in China and *** model is very widespread in the world,therefore the generalizations proposed in the article can be implemented for the purposes of prediction surface deformations for various types of deposits in many *** presented generalizations were then tested on specific examples of coal mining,copper ore mining and rock salt *** obtained results indicate high efficiency of methods based on the influence function in complex geological and mining conditions.

Poly(phenylene oxide) and Renewable Polyamide 11 Blends Compatibilized by Ethylene-n-Octene Copolymer

Poly(phenylene oxide)/renewable polyamide 11 (PPO/PA11 20/80) blends toughened with glycidylmethacrylate grafted ethylene-n-octene copolymer (GEOC) were prepared in a co-rotating twin-screwextruder. The reaction between GEOC and PPO/PA11 blend was analyzed by gel content tests. Themorphology of PPO/PA11/GEOC blends was observed by scanning electron microscope. The SEMresults showed that PPO formed the continuous phase, though it is a minority component of blends. Withincreasing GEOC content from 5 to 15 wt% the morphology of the blends transformed from droplet-matrix toco-continuous structure, in which both PA11 and PPO phases are continuous. The blend with co-continuousmorphology had better mechanical properties than those with droplet-matrix morphology. The impactstrength of the PPO/PA11/GEOC blends was much higher compared to the one without GEOC as well asPA11 due to the compatibilizing effect, which was also proved by DSC analysis, rheological behavior (MFR,DMTA) and tensile properties.

Gene Networks in Plant Ozone Stress Response and Tolerance

For many plant species ozone stress has become much more severe in the last decade. The accumulating evidence for the significant effects of ozone pollutant on crop and forest yield situate ozone as one of the most important environmental stress factors that limits plant productivity worldwide. Today, transcriptomic approaches seem to give the best coverage of genome level responses. Therefore, microarray serves as an invaluable tool for global gene expression analyses, unravelling new information about gene pathways, in-species and cross-species gene expression comparison, and for the characterization of unknown relationships between genes. In this review we summarize the recent progress in the transcriptomics of ozone to demonstrate the benefits that can be harvested from the application of integrative and systematic analytical approaches to study ozone stress response. We focused our consideration on microarray analyses identifying gene networks responsible for response and tolerance to elevated ozone concentration. From these analyses it is now possible to notice how plant ozone defense responses depend on the interplay between many complex signaling pathways and metabolite signals.

On Tame Operators between Non-Archimedean Power Series Spaces

Let p ∈ {1,∞}. We show that any continuous linear operator T from Al（a） to Ap（b） is tame, i.e., there exists a positive integer c such that supx ｜｜Tx｜｜k/｜x｜ck 〈 ∞ for every k ∈ N. Next we prove that a similar result holds for operators from Am（a） to Ap（b） if and only if the set Mb,a of all finite limit points of the double sequence （bi/aj）i,j∈N is bounded. Finally we show that the range of every tame operator from A∞ （a） to A∞ （b） has a Schauder basis.

Response of soil catalase activity to chromium contamination

The impact of chromium（Ⅲ） and （Ⅵ） forms on soil catalase activity was presented. The Orthic Podzol, Haplic Phaeozem and Mollic Gleysol from different depths were used in the experiment. The soil samples were amended with solution of Cr（Ⅲ） using CrCl3, and with Cr（Ⅵ） using K2Cr2O7 in the concentration range from 0 to 20 mg/kg, whereas the samples without the addition of chromium served as control. Catalase activity was assayed by one of the commonly used spectrophotometric methods. As it was demonstrated in the experiment, both Cr（Ⅲ） and Cr（Ⅵ） have an ability to reduce soil catalase activity. A chromium dosage of 20 mg/kg caused the inhibition of catalase activity and the corresponding contamination levels ranged from 75% to 92% for Cr（Ⅲ） and 68% to 76% for Cr（Ⅵ）, with relation to the control. Catalase activity reached maximum in the soil material from surface layers （0-25 cm）, typically characterized by the highest content of organic matter creating favorable conditions for microorganisms.
