This paper describes an experimental investigation of the thermal performance of four Australian domestic walling systems(cavity brick,insulated cavity brick,insulated brick veneer and insulated reverse brick veneer)having various combinations of thermal insulation and of thermal mass location within the *** experimental analysis extends further the previous studies of the benefits of thermal mass on the overall thermal performance of building enclosures(Gregory et al.2008,Luo at al.2008,Alashaary et al.2009).The comparison is based on the time required to maintain thermal comfort for free-floating internal *** results clearly show that internal comfort levels are influenced by both the thermal resistance of the walls as well as the extent and location of the thermal mass,with neither parameter being the sole *** best thermal performance is therefore obtained by an appropriate combination of thermal mass and resistance,rather than focussing on the overall wall thermal resistance(R-value)alone.A new approach of density temperature plots for comparison of temperature variation is also used in the assessment of module thermal performance.

This paper summarises the results of a combined numerical,statistical and experimental study concerned with the use of dissimilar walling systems on the external parts of a given building *** rational behind this“hybrid wall”concept,as opposed to conventional approaches where identical walls are used in a building envelope,is to achieve a more effective distribution of thermal mass across the envelope and,hence,improve the overall thermal per-formance of the *** effectiveness of the“hybrid wall”concept was investigated using a series of hypothetical building modules of common Australian residential constructions,namely Light weight(Lw),Brick Veneer(BV),Reverse Brick Veneer(RBV)and Cavity Brick(CB).These designs were examined numerically using a commercial energy rating tool known as“AccuRate”,statistically using JMP software and experimentally using a novel bench-scale setup developed as part of this *** performance of each design was evaluated by its energy *** numerical predictions and experimental data highlighted that the east and west walls have the most impact on the energy consumption under Australian climatic *** was found that considerable reductions in the energy consumption could be achieved in cases where the hybrid wall concept was implemented through the use of high ther-mal mass insulated walls on the east and west sides of the building envelope.

Industrial water treatment and industrial marine outfalls both function together to reduce the pollutant concentrations in the effluent and mitigate the potential impact on the environment. The former uses environ- mental treatment technology with energy and material cost considerations, while the latter utilizes the natural assimilation potential of the coastal water environment achievable at the outfall location. Because of their synergistic nature, marine outfalls are now commonly used for the disposal of partially treated domestic and industrial effluents in many coastal cities around the world, with many successful examples of low and acceptable risks to the environment. The objective of this paper is to review their balance from both environmental and economic considerations. we also discuss the end-of-the-pipe and mixing zone approaches for industrial effluents, and give some recommendations particularly for developing coun- tries. Finally, we emphasize that a compulsory and vigorous monitoring program is essential regardless of how the balance is achieved.

The comprehensive analysis of AC electrical conductivity in magnetite was performed in order to find relations between the formation of polarons,phonons and conduction by a virtual free electron *** analysis performed here for the first time shows experimental data for the behavior of electrons for magnetite with the scattering time shifted to the GHz *** to our study,the DC electrical conductivity can be described by the virtual free electron gas model,and high frequency conductivity can be described by the combination of the Drude model for disordered materials and Jonscher's universal power *** observed peak at the imaginary part of AC conductivity was related to the scattering time of the electron-phonon *** interaction between electrons and thermally formed phonons results in the formation of large polarons,and these are responsible for high frequency conductivity in magnetite.

This study developed a rapid building modeling tool,AutoBPS-BIM,to transfer the building information model(BIM)to the building energy model(BEM)for load calculation and chiller design *** eight-storey office building in Beijing,33.2 m high,67.2 m long and 50.4 m wide,was selected as a case study ***,a module was developed to transfer BIM in IFC format into BEM in *** air volume systems were selected for the air system,while water-cooled chillers and boilers were used for the central *** EnergyPlus model calculated the heating and cooling loads for each space as well as the energy consumption of the central ***,a chiller optimization module was developed to select the optimal chiller design for minimizing energy consumption while maintaining thermal *** available chillers were included,with capacities ranging from 471 kw to 1329 *** results showed that the cooling loads of the spaces ranged from 33 to 100 w/m^(2) with a median of 45 w/m^(2),and the heating load ranged from 37 to 70 w/m^(2) with a median of 52 w/m^(2).The central plant’s total cooling load under variable air volume systems was 1400 *** with the static load calculation method,the dynamic method reduced 33%of the chiller design *** two chillers were used,different chiller combinations’annual cooling energy consumption ranged from 10.41 to 11.88,averaging 11.12 kwh/m^(2).The lowest energy consumption was 10.41 kwh/m^(2) when two chillers with 538 kw and 1076 kw each were *** the proper chiller number with different capacities was critical to achieving lower energy consumption,which achieved 12.6%cooling system energy consumption reduction for the case study *** study demonstrated that AutoBPS-BIM has a large potential in modeling BEM and optimizing chiller design.

Using the spatial structure of the external staggered split-level panel layout,a combined support technology for adjacent roadways was developed and analyzed for a rock bolt and anchor cable *** influence of the side rock bolt and anchor cable parameters on the mechanical properties of the anchorage body and the support stress distribution of the lateral coal body were revealed using the FLAC3D *** optimal support parameters of the side rock bolts and anchor cables were subsequently determined,and the support effect of gob-side entry in a mining scenario was *** results show that the support of the side rock bolts and anchor cables improves the mechanical properties and stress state of the anchorage body,producing a good protective effect on the coal body of the air-intake entry roof and side *** is beneficial to the stability of the side wall and the realization of the suspension effect for roof rock bolts and anchor cables,which in turn makes the surrounding rock maintenance of the gob-side entry to a thick coal seam more favorable.
