Modulatory effect of pineapple peel extract on lipid peroxidation,catalase activity and hepatic biomarker levels in blood plasma of alcoholinduced oxidative stressed rats

Objective:To investigate the ability of the methanolic extract of pineapple peel to modulate alcohol-induced lipid peroxidation,changes in catalase activities and hepatic biochemical marker levels in blood ***:Oxidative stress was induced by oral administration of ethanol(20%w/v) at a dosage of 5 niL/kg bw in *** 28 days of treatment,the rats were fasted overnight and sacrificed by cervical *** was collected with a 2 mL syringe by cardiac puncture and was centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 *** plasma was analyzed to evaluate malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase activity,aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) ***:Administration of alcohol caused a drastic increase(87.74%) in MDA level compared with the *** peel extract significantly reduced the MDA level by 60.16%at 2.S mL/kg *** fed alcohol only had the highest catalase activity,treatment with pineapple peel extract at 2.5 mL/kg bw however, reduced the *** AST,ALP and ALT activities were observed in rats fed alcohol only respectively,treatment with pineapple peel extract drastically reduced their activities. Conclusions:The positive modulation of lipid peroxidation,catalase activities as well as hepatic biomarker levels of blood plasma by the methanolic extract of pineapple peels under alcoholinduced oxidative stress is an indication of its protective ability in the management of alcoholinduced toxicity.

Risk governance is a widely used framework in natural and societal risk management *** from natural hazards in urban areas call for the establishment of rigorous and participatory urban risk *** this study,we examined participatory risk governance(PRG)of flood risk management(FRM)in Seoul,South *** conducted key informant interviews and implemented a survey with citizens,to explore perceptions of flood risks and risk management,and to examine prospects for improving PRG in *** found a gap between the perceptions of key informants and *** informants believed that citizens'low awareness of flood risks hinders *** our research found that citizens'risk awareness was not low,and risk awareness may not be the main barrier to participation in ***,we found that citizens lacked knowledge of FRM actions,and they assigned government bodies a high level of responsibility for FRM,compared to the level of responsibility that citizens assigned to ***,the actors involved in FRM tended not to trust each other,which implies a lack of mutual *** increase the eff ectiveness of PRG,we suggest a polycentric governance structure anchored by a leading actor group,and active promotion of the participation of actors at multiple levels of *** between government and citizen participants,designed to foster improved understanding and recognition of one another's roles and contributions to FRM,will enhance trust and improve the implementation of PRG in Seoul.

Development of the modified k-ε turbulence model of power-law fluid for engineering applications

In the present study, a high Reynolds number version of a turbulence model was proposed by using drag reduction to analyze the turbulent flows of power-law fluid for engineering applications. In order to determine the model constants in the constitutive equation, numerical simulation was conducted under the same conditions that were applied to obtain the experiment re- suits and previous turbulence models. For validation of the modified turbulence model, numerical simulations were performed for power-law fluids of different viscosities. The results of the modified k-ε turbulence model showed better agreement with the experimental results than those of the standard k-ε turbulence model. In addition, computation time and computer resource of the modified k-ε turbulence model were reduced by about one third as compared to the low Reynolds number model for power-law fluids.

Automatic image classification is the first step toward semantic understanding of an object in the computer vision *** key challenge of problem for accurate object recognition is the ability to extract the robust features from various viewpoint images and rapidly calculate similarity between features in the image database or video *** order to solve these problems,an effective and rapid image classification method was presented for the object recognition based on the video learning *** optical-flow and RANSAC algorithm were used to acquire scene images from each video *** the selection of scene images,the local maximum points on comer of object around local area were found using the Harris comer detection algorithm and the several attributes from local block around each feature point were calculated by using scale invariant feature transform （SIFT） for extracting local ***,the extracted local descriptor was learned to the three-dimensional pyramid match *** results show that our method can extract features in various multi-viewpoint images from query video and calculate a similarity between a query image and images in the database.

Remarkable attention has been directed to Prussian blue(PB) and its analogues(PBA) as one of the most widely used metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) especially in the field of energy storage devices due to their fabulous features such as 3D open framework, high surface area, controllable distribution of pores and the low cost. Nevertheless, their depressed conductivity causes some insulation when being used as an electrode for supercapacitors leading to be restricted in further applications particularly the electronics. To the best of our knowledge, our review aimed primarily to give a total picture of the research that was done on utilizing PB and PBA for fabricating the electrodes of supercapacitor, studying their synthesis approaches in addition to the hybridization with other materials such as graphene, CNTs and conducting polymer. It also addresses the transformation of PB or PBA into other interesting nanostructures such as oxides, sulfides, and bicomponent of graphitic carbon nitride/metal oxides, as well. Furthermore,It exhibits various avenues for overcoming their disadvantages of bad cycle life, retention rate and not achieving the desired values of energy/power densities opening the door for enlarging the number of researches on their application as supercapacitors.

Breast cancer metastasizing to the stomach mimicking primary gastric cancer: A case report

Breast cancer with stomach metastasis rare with an incidence of 1% or less among metastatic breast cancer patients. We experienced a case of breast cancer metastasizing to the stomach in 65-year-old female patient. She experienced dyspepsia and poor oral intake before visiting the clinic. Diffuse infiltration with nodular mucosal thickening of the stomach wall was observed, suggesting advanced gastric cancer based on gross endoscopic finding. Spread of poorly cohesive tumor cells in the gastric mucosa observed upon hematoxylin and eosin stain resembled signet ring cell carcinoma, but diffuse positive staining for GATA3 in immunohistochemical stain allowed for a conclusive diagnosis of breast cancer metastasizing to the stomach. Based on the final diagnosis, systemic chemotherapy was administered instead of primary surgical resection. After 2 cycles of docetaxel administration, she showed a partial response based on abdominal computed tomography scan. This case is an unusual presentation of breast cancer metastasizing to the gastrointestinal tract.

Mechanically induced phase transformation of zinc sulfide

Molecular dynamics （MD） simulations of the consecutive compression-decompression cycles ot hexagonal zinc sulfide （wurtzite） nanoparticles predict an irreversible phase transformation to the cubic *** phase transformation commences at the contact area between the particle and the inden- ter and proceeds with the number of compression cycles. Dislocations are visible for a particle size above 5nm. Results from wet grinding and dry powder compression experiments on a commercial wurtzite pigment agree qualitatively with MD simulation predictions. X-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the amount of cubic polymorph in the compressed samples increases with pressure applied to the powder. In comparison with powder compression, wet milling leads to a more pronounced phase transformation. This occurs because the particles are exposed to a large number of stress events by collision with the grinding media, which leads to the formation of defects and new surface crystallites by particle fracture. According to the MD simulations, phase transformation is expected to occur preferentially in surface crystallites because they experience the highest mechanical load. Because of the phase transformation, the wet ground and compressed samples exhibit a lower photo- luminescence intensity than the feed material. In comparison with powder compression, milling reduces the photoluminescence intensity more substantially. This occurs because a higher defect concentration is formed. The defects contribute to the phase transformation and photoluminescence quenching.

Currently, there is no international consensus on the best treatment regimen for patients with advanced resectable gastric carcinoma. In the United States, where a limited lymph-node dissection is frequently performed, adjuvant chemoradiotherapy after surgeryis the standard treatment. In Europe, intensified perioperative chemotherapy is commonly administered. In Japan and South Korea, postoperative S-1-based adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery with D2 lymph-node dissection is the standard treatment. Several ongoing trials are currently evaluating the optimal sequence of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery, as well as the place of targeted therapeutic agents in the treatment of advanced gastric carcinoma.
