Self-assembled V2O5 interconnected microspheres produced in a fish-water electrolyte medium as a high- performance lithium-ion-battery cathode

Interconnected microspheres of V2Os composed of ultra-long nanobelts are synthesized in an environmental friendly way by adopting a conventional anodization process combined with annealing. The synthesis process is simple and low-cost because it does not require any additional chemicals or reagents. Commercial fish-water is used as an electrolyte medium to anodize vanadium foil for the first time. Electron microscopy investigation reveals that each belt consists of numerous nanofibers with free space between them. Therefore, this novel nanostructure demonstrates many outstanding features during electrochemical operation. This structure prevents self-aggregation of active materials and fully utilizes the advantage of active materials by maintaining a large effective contact area between active materials, conductive additives, and electrolyte, which is a key challenge for most nanomaterials. The electrodes exhibit promising electrochemical performance with a stable discharge capacity of 227 mAh·g^-1 at 1C after 200 cycles. The rate capability of the electrode is outstanding, and the obtained capacity is as high as 278 at 0.5C, 259 at 1C, 240 at 2C, 206 at 5C, and 166 mAh·g^-1 at 10C. Overall this novel structure could be one of the most favorable nanostructures of vanadium oxide-based cathodes for Li-ion batteries.

Photoluminescence Properties of LaF<sub>3</sub>-Coated Porous Silicon

This work reports the coating of porous silicon (PS) with LaF3 and its influence on the photoluminescence (PL) property of PS. PS samples, prepared by electrochemical etching in a solution of HF and ethanol, were coated with e-beam evaporated-LaF3 of different thicknesses. It was observed that the thin LaF3 layer on PS led to a good enhancement of PL yield of PS. But with the increasing thickness of LaF3 layer PL intensity of PS was decreasing along with a small blue-shift. It was also observed that all the coated samples showed degradation in PL intensity with time, but annealing could recover and stabilize the degraded PL.

Data Classification Using Combination of Five Machine Learning Techniques

Data clustering plays a vital role in object identification. In real life we mainly use the concept in biometric identification and object detection. In this paper we use Fuzzy Weighted Rules, Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), Fuzzy C-Mean clustering (FCM), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to distinguish three types of Iris data called Iris-Setosa, Iris-Versicolor and Iris-Virginica. Each class in the data table is identified by four-dimensional vector, where vectors are used as the input variable called: Sepal Length (SL), Sepal Width (SW), Petal Length (PL) and Petal Width (PW). The combination of five machine learning methods provides above 98% accuracy of class identification.

Impact of Nicotine Consumption on Hyper Acidic Patients Taking PPI: An <i>In-Vitro</i>and Computational Analysis

The study aims to investigate the protein binding kinetics of nicotine and a PPI (pantoprazole) with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) through UV spectroscopy and computational modeling. Data was obtained by using nicotine and pantoprazole and warfarin and diazepam as the two site specific probes on Bovine serum albumin (BSA). In-vitro and in-silico modeling was carried out in creating an environment that simulates the body environment. Cellulose membrane tubes were cut into 9 cm and tied tightly not to let any mixtures leak out. To determine number of binding sites, association constants by using Scatchard plot, predominant binding site of each drug and rise in % of free fraction of one by the other were analyzed using equilibrium dialysis method. Molecular docking further verifies the observations. In Scatchard plot analysis, for nicotine, n1, n2, k1 and k2 = 2.2, 7.6, 0.18 μM−1 and 0.02 μM−1 and for pantoprazole, n1, n2, k1?and k2 = 0.42, 1.2, 0.40 μM−1 and 0.03 μM−1. Nicotine binds more to diazepam site (site-II) and pantoprazole mainly to warfarin site (site-I). In molecular docking, the binding affinity of nicotine being −5.7 kcal/mole demonstrates higher affinity for site-II than that of pantoprazole whose binding affinity is −8.0 kcal/mole. In absence and presence of warfarin, the free fraction of pantoprazole bound to BSA (1:1) was increased from 37.79% to 82.44% and 51.78% to 98.80% respectively by nicotine. On the other hand, free fraction of nicotine was raised by pantoprazole from 12.89% to 75.70% and 50.08% to 99.66% in the absence and presence of diazepam. Both the results of spectroscopic and computational molecular docking suggest that administering pantoprazole with nicotine might increase the % free fraction of pantoprazole more. Thus, nicotine consumption can be beneficial for smoker people taking PPI like pantoprazole.

Antidiabetic and antidiarrhoeal potentials of ethanolic extracts of aerial parts of Cynodon dactylon Pers

Objective: To explore the antidiabetic and the antidiarrhoeal effects of ethanolic extracts of Cynodon dactylon Pers. aerial parts(EECA) in Wistar ***: To assess the antidiabetic activity of EECA, oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) model and alloxan induced diabetic test(AIDT) model were performed. The EECA was used at the doses of 2 g/kg, 1 g/kg and 500 mg/kg body weight in OGTT model and 1.5 g/kg was used for AIDT model. Castor oil-induced diarrhoeal model and gastrointestinal motility test with barium sulphate milk model were performed for evaluating the antidiarrhoeal effects at doses of 1 g/kg, 750 mg/kg ***: The dose 2 g/kg in OGTT and 1.5 g/kg in AIDT model blood glucose levels decreased significantly(P < 0.01) in Wistar rats that showed antidiabetic effect of EECA. After administration of EECA at the dose of 1 g/kg, the extract showed significant(P < 0.05) antidiarrhoeal activity in castor oil-induced diarrhoeal model. The results were also significant(P < 0.01) in barium sulphate milk model for the same dose by using above mentioned ***: It is concluded that EECA contains both antidiabetic and the antidiarrhoeal properties.

Permutation Algebra for Constructing Reversible Circuits

In this paper, we show that the algebra of permutation group is one of the inherent structures of reversible logic for quantum computation. In this venture, we discuss necessary properties of cycle and transposition to reveal the potential of permutation algebra for reversible logic. Then we present an efficient method which naturally interconnects the structure of reversible logic with the expression of cycle and corresponding transpositions. Finally we discuss several examples which show that the algebra can be effectively used to construct complex gates as well.

Wearable Antenna for Power Efficient On-Body and Off-Body Communications

A novel dual-band and diverse radiation pattern antenna is proposed for power efficient on-body and off-body communications intended for various applications in healthcare and sport monitoring. The antenna is dual band at 2.45 GHz (ISM band) with omnidirectional radiation pattern over the body surface to communicate power efficiently with other co-located body worn devices and at 1.9 GHz (PCS band), it has directive radiation pattern towards off the body to communicate from on-body device to off-body devices. The free space and on-body performances of the antenna are investigated by both simulation and experiment. The antenna shows very good on-body radiation efficiency of 58% at 2.45 GHz and 61% at 1.9 GHz. Good on-body gain is noticed at both frequency bands. Results show that the gain of the proposed antenna increases by 4.7% at 2.45 GHz and 3.2% at 1.9 GHz when placed on the body.

Determination of Array Gain of Single Hop to Achieve the Performance of a 2-Hop Wireless Link

In adaptive beamforming system adaptive algorithm of digital filter is applied to update the weighting vector of the antenna elements to get antenna gain along the desired direction and attenuation along the jammer. The objective of the paper is to evaluate the threshold gain of the adaptive beam former along the line of sight (LOS) between the transmitter and the receiver (including jammer suppression) to make the single hop link comparable with 2-hop link. The single hop and 2-hop communication systems are compared in context of symbol error rate (SER) under fading condition theoretically and verified by simulation. Finally we evaluate the numerical value of threshold gain of adaptive beamformer of two antenna elements under Rayleigh and Nakagami-m fading conditions.
