Inhibitory Interaction and Pharmacological Analyses of Berries Phenolics Against Listeria monocytogenes Virulent Protein Internalin B

Background: Traditional plants, their parts, and phytochemicals obtained from them are beneficial for human beings. They are used as potent antimicrobials, but very little research is conducted on the use of traditional medicine against food-borne infection. Different berry plants are rich in phenolic compounds and conventionally known to have many properties such as antioxidants, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-diabetics. However, only limited polyphenols are known for their antilisterial effect. The present study aimed to explore the antimicrobial efficacy of phenolic compounds of berries for the treatment of food-borne infection caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Materials and Methods: Molecular docking studies employing the Swiss DOCK server were performed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of phenolic compounds obtained from different varieties of berries. Internalin B(Inl B), a virulence protein of L. monocytogenes was selected as a target. The absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity profiling of each test ligand was done through the Swiss ADME tool. Results: Among all the test ligands, p-coumaric acid, epicatechins, chlorogenic acid, and quercetin showed better binding efficiency with the target protein Inl B. The binding energy obtained for quercetin, p-coumaric acid, chlorogenic acid, and epicatechins was-8.93,-8.23,-8.18,-7.58, kcal/mol, respectively. Quercetin and p-coumaric acid were forming 4 H-bonds, whereas chlorogenic acid and epicatechins were forming 3-H bonds inside the binding pocket. Conclusion: In a nutshell, analyses indicated that identified ligands have the potential to block the virulent protein Inl B of L. monocytogenes and help combat Listeria infection. These phenolic compounds could be a substitute for synthetic antimicrobials and can be used in food preservation and combat food-borne diseases. Dislocation of a constrained total knee arthroplasty with patellar tendon rupture after trivial trauma

Constrained total knee prostheses are used in knees with severe deformities and insufficiency of collaterals to provide stable and mobile knees. Dislocation after constrained knee prosthesis is an extremely rare and dreaded complication. When dislocation is associated with patellar tendon rupture, the management includes restoration of the extensor apparatus along with a stable knee. Repair of the patellar tendon is challenging due to poor soft tissue coverage in the area and a bulky repair can put tension on the wound closure. Ideal method of restoration of the extensor apparatus is a matter of debate. There are various modalities used ranging from primary end-to-end repair, augmentation by medial gastrocnemius flap, semitendinosus and synthetic implants and allograft tendoachilles. We report a rare case of a posterior dislocation of a constrained total knee arthroplasty in association with patellar tendon rupture due to a minor fall after a few weeks of surgery. The first episode was managed by reposition of the dislocation and V-Y plasty of the quadriceps and primary repair. The second episode of dislocation with re-rupture needed augmentation by semitendinosus along with the insertion of the thicker insert. The management of this complex problem along with the review of literature is discussed in this case reoort.

There has been more than 75%rise in the number of extreme weather events such as drought and flood during 2000-2019 compared to 1980-1999 due to the adverse effects of climate change,causing significant deterioration of the soil and water ***,the growing human population has been exerting pressure on available water and soil resources due to overuse or unplanned *** greenhouse gas emissions have intensified,the fertility of agricultural soils has declined globally due to the exposure of soils to frequent flooding,desertification,and salinization(resulting from extreme weather events).The current review aims to give an overview of damages caused to the soil-plant system by extreme weather events and provide a perspective on how biochar can repair the damaged *** is known to improve soil fertility,increase crop productivity and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions via sustainable recycling of *** properties of biochar such as alkaline pH,high cation exchange capacity,abundant surface functional groups,remarkable surface area,adequate porosity,excellent water holding capacity,and sufficient nutrient retention capacity can help repair the adverse effects of extreme weather events in the soil-plant *** paper recommends some cautious future approaches that can propel biochar’s use in improving the soil-plant systems and promoting sustainable functioning of extreme weather-affected areas via mitigation of the adverse effects.

A large caliber howitzer is a complex and cumbersome assembly. Understanding its dynamics and performance attributes' sensitivity to changes in its design parameters can be a very time-consuming and expensive exercise, as such an effort requires highly sophisticated test rigs and platforms. However, the need of such an understanding is crucially important for system designers, users, and evaluators. Some of the key performance attributes of such a system are its vertical jump, forward motion, recoil displacement, and force transmitted to ground through tires and trail after the gun has been fired. In this work, we have developed a rigid body dynamics model for a representative howitzer system, and used relatively simple experimental procedures to estimate its principal design parameters. Such procedures can help in obviating the need of expensive experimental rigs, especially in early stages of the design cycle. These parameters were subsequently incorporated into our simulation model,which was then used to predict gun performance. Finally, we conducted several sensitivity studies to understand the influence of changes in various design parameters on system performance. Their results provide useful insights in our understanding of the functioning of the overall system.
