An extinct hydrothermal barite-silica chimney from the Franklin Seamount of the Woodlark Basin, in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, was investigated for mineral distribution and geochemical composition. Six layers on either side of the orifice of a chimney show significant disparity in color, mineral assemblage and major element composition. Electron microscope（SEM） images reveal that the peripheral wall of the chimney is composed of colloform silica, suggesting that incipient precipitation of silica-saturated hydrothermal fluid initiated the development of the chimney wall. Intermediate layers, between the exterior wall and the inner fluid-orifice, dominate with barite and sulfides. Low Sr-to-Ba ratios（SrO/BaO = 0.015–0.017） indicate restricted fluid-seawater mixing, which causes relatively high-temperature formation of the intermediate layers. Whereas the innermost layer bordering the chimney orifice is characterized by more silica and a higher Sr-to-Ba ratio（SrO/BaO = 0.023）, could have formed due to a paragenetic shift from a high-temperature active phase to a cooler waning stage of formation. A paragenetic shift is also probably responsible for the change in mineral formation mechanism that resulted in the textural variation of barite and colloform silica developed during different growth phases of this barite-silica chimney.

AIM To investigate whether autologous blood transfusion(ABT) drains and intra-operative cell salvage reduced donor blood transfusion requirements during scoliosis *** Retrospective data collection on transfusion requirements of patients undergoing scoliosis surgery is between January 2006 and March 2010. There were three distinct phases of transfusion practice over this time: Group A received "traditional treatment" with allogeneic red cell transfusion(ARCT) in response to an intra- or postoperative anaemia(Hb < 8 g/d L or a symptomatic anaemia); Group B received intra-operative cell salvage in addition to "traditional treatment". In group C,ABT wound drains were used together with both intra-operative cell salvage and "traditional treatment".RESULTS Data from 97 procedures on 77 patients,there was no difference in mean preoperative haemoglobin levels between the groups(A: 13.1 g/d L; B: 13.49 g/d L; C: 13.66 g/d L). Allogeneic red cell transfusion was required for 22 of the 37 procedures(59%) in group A,17 of 30(57%) in group B and 16 of 30(53%) in group C. There was an overall 6% reduction in the proportion of patients requiring an ARCT between groups A and C but this was not statistically significant(χ2 = 0.398). Patientsin group C received fewer units(mean 2.19) than group B(mean 2.94)(P = 0.984) and significantly fewer than those in group A(mean 3.82)(P = 0.0322). Mean length of inpatient stay was lower in group C(8.65 d) than in groups B(12.83) or A(12.62).CONCLUSION When used alongside measures to minimise blood loss during surgery,ABT drains and intra-operative cell salvage leads to a reduced need for donor blood transfusion in patients undergoing scoliosis surgery.

The gut microbiome plays a key role in the pathogenesis and disease activity of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).While research has focused on the bacterial microbiome,recent studies have shifted towards host genetics and host-fungal *** mycobiota is a vital component of the gastrointestinal microbial community and plays a significant role in immune *** fungi,Candida species,particularly Candida albicans(***),have been extensively studied due to their dual role as gut commensals and invasive *** findings indicate that various strains of *** exhibit consid-erable differences in virulence factors,impacting IBD's *** fungal dysbiosis and antifungal mucosal immunity may be associated to IBD,especially Crohn's disease(CD).This article discusses intestinal fungal dysbiosis and antifungal immunity in healthy individuals and CD *** discusses factors influencing the mycobiome's role in IBD pathogenesis and highlights significant contributions from the scientific community aimed at enhancing understanding of the mycobiome and encouraging further research and targeted intervention studies on specific fungal *** article also provided insights into a recent study by Wu et al in the World Journal of Gastroenterology regarding the role of the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of CD.

We have theoretically studied the modal dispersion equation and effective refractive index of one-dimensional plasma photonic crystals (1-D PPCs) having different materials in one unit cell. The dispersion relations related for such structure is derived by solving Maxwell’s equation using the transfer matrix method. It is found that the presence of plasma in a unit cell enhanced the phase matching ability and provides additional degree of freedom to control phase matching condition compared to the conventional one-dimensional photonic crystals (1-D PCs).

边坡的稳定性受到多种因素的影响,在判断边坡稳定性时,需对其所处的环境进行研究分析,而对于水库边坡,则不可避免的要受到库水位涨落的影响。大岗山水电站水库边坡在蓄水过程中,其水库边坡就受到库水位上升过程的影响。由于水对岩体的渗透作用极大的影响着岩体本身的力学特性,因此,在库水位上升过程中,水库边坡表面及内部岩体特性会不断变化,进而影响整个边坡的稳定性。基于大岗山水电站的实际工程地质资料,借助数值计算分析程序,考虑了库水位的上升过程中右岸水库边坡的稳定性变化。计算结合了极限平衡方法与Morgenstern-Price稳定性分析方法,对不同水位上升速率条件下水库边坡的稳定性进行了研究。研究表明,边坡岩体地下水位随着库水位相应上升,导致边坡内部岩体力学特性的改变。同时,随着地下水位的上升,岩体渗透性也相应增大,从而使得岩体的强度降低。水位的变化同时也使得边坡中局部岩体在饱和和非饱和的状态中变化,并且边坡中不同部位由同时处于饱和和不饱和状态,受力非常复杂。对数值计算结果的分析表明,随着库水位的变化,边坡安全系数变化规律较为相似,但水位变化速率对安全系数值存在一定影响,但水位上升时间为30天与60天的两种情况下边坡稳定性变化较为近似。在对水位上升时间为180天的工况中,边坡稳定性系数的额变化较为明显,且与上升时间为30天的工况存在较大不同。相比较而言,水位上升时间较长的情况下,在过程初期,边坡安全系数将相对更低,但并不明显。而在水位上升的中后期,边坡安全系数不断增大,各工况中边坡安全系数的峰值所对应的水位高度并不相同,上升速率越慢则峰值安全系数对应的水位则越高。因此,在实际工程中,需针对各边坡进行计算,从而选择最优的水位上升时间。

Purpose:Tibial plateau fracture(TPF)is a devastating injury as it shatters lower articular surface of the largest *** from bony injury,TPF can lead to great soft tissue envelope compromise which affects the treatment plan and *** the present study,clinical results were assessed in cases of high energy TPFs treated in staged ***:Twenty-three(20 males and 3 females)patients of high energy communited TPFs(Schatzker typeⅤandⅥ)were consecutively treated.1 All the patient had compromise of overlying skin *** were all successively scheduled for staged treatment plan which comprised of application of bridging knee external fixator on the first day of admission and definitive internal fixation after skin and soft tissue overlying the fracture were *** typeⅠ,Ⅱ,ⅢandⅣwere excluded from the *** survey was done and patient who had head injury,chest and abdominal injury,pelvic injury and contralateral limb injury and open fractures were excluded from the *** patients were also evaluated in terms of wound complications,axial and rotary alignment of limb,fixation failure,articular congruity and range of motion of the knees and post injury *** analysis was done using SPSS ***:Maximum follow-up period was 13 *** the fractures were united at final *** evaluation was done with the Tegner Lysholm knee scoring scale.2 Excellent results were found in 78%cases and good and fair results in 22%*** was significant correlation between range of motion and the Tegner Lysholm knee score(p<0.001,Pearson correlation coefficient=0.741).The correlation between the score and the radiographical union duration was significant(p=0.006,Pearson correlation coefficient=-0.554).Conclusion:A staged treatment plan allows healing of soft tissue envelope,with avoidance of dreadful complications such as compartment syndrome and chronic *** addition,a staged treatment strategy do

Aim:Patients with cleft lip usually undergo multiple procedures that require hospitalization resulting in emotional stress to their family *** patients often require sedation or general anesthesia(GA)for suture removal on a sensitive area to prevent disruption of the *** this study,we compared absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures for primary cleft lip ***:Patients with cleft lip who presented to Smile Train Unit,Child Hospital and Research Institute,Nagpur,India,were randomly assigned to two groups and underwent surgical repair using either Vicryl Rapid suture(Group 1)or Prolene suture(Group 2).Patients were followed up at 1 month,6 months,and 1 *** of the patients were obtained at these visits and rated using a validated 100-mm cosmesis visual analogue scale(VAS)by three people(social worker,surgeon,and patient’s mother).A VAS score of 15 mm or greater was considered as clinically important ***:A total of 60 patients were enrolled in this study,and they were equally divided into two *** was no difference in age,race,sex,wound length,number of sutures,and layered repair rates between the *** average age of the patient was 3 *** was no significant difference in the rates of infection which was 6%in this study,wound dehiscence,and hypertrophic scar *** significant difference was found in cosmetic outcome in both the mean VAS score of 90.3 in Group 1 and 91.7 in Group ***:Absorbable sutures are a viable alternative to nonabsorbable sutures in the repair of primary cleft lip *** prefer absorbable sutures because they do not require removal under GA or sedation.

The present study analyses the hydro-chemical data of groundwater samples of three different limestone mine sites, which are in close proximity and covers a tract along the Gujarat Coast of Indian peninsula. Higher TDS (> 4000 mg/L) and Cl values (> 2000 mg/L) as well as the Chloride: Bicarbonate (HCO3) ratio of more than one clearly support that the sea water intrusion is present in the coastal aquifer at all the three sites. In view of the economic importance of the area and the vulnerability of the coastal aquifer to sea water intrusion recommendations are made for sustainable use of groundwater by the mining companies and other stake holders.

The laminar fully developed free-convection flow in a channel bounded by two vertical plates, partially filled with porous matrix and partially with a clear fluid, has been discussed when both the plates are moving in opposite direction. Two regions are coupled, by equating the velocity and shear stress at the interface. The momentum transfer in porous medium has been described by the Brinkman-extended Darcy model. The affect of Darcy number on flow velocity has been discussed in fluid region, interface region and porous medium with the help of graphs. Analytic method has been adopted to obtain the expressions of velocity and temperature. The skin-friction component has also been determined and presented with the help of tables.
