Some Oxidative Stress Biomarkers among Patients with Prostate Cancer in Sokoto, North Western Nigeria

Globally, prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men. It is a significant contributor to the burden of diseases and affects over a million men. This study investigated the levels of malondialdehyde and plasma total antioxidant capacity among patients with prostate cancer in Sokoto. This case-control study was conducted among 28 confirmed prostate cancer patients attending the Urology clinics in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital and Sokoto Specialist Hospital in North Western Nigeria. Twenty-eight age-matched healthy males were monitored as controls. Determination of Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) was determined using Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) reagent while the Malondialdehyde in serum was determined as a conjugate with Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) acid. Data were collected using a semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire. Data were processed using SPSS version 20 and results were reported as Mean ± Standard deviation. The malondialdehyde level was significantly increased (p < 0.0001) among subjects with prostate cancer (0.215 ± 0.06) compared to controls (0.073 ± 0.04). The plasma total antioxidant capacity decreased significantly among the subjects (247.9 ± 63.3) compared to controls (743.3 ± 104.40) (p < 0.0001). The findings from this indicated a high Malondialdehyde (lipid peroxidation indicator) and low levels of Total Antioxidant Capacity among prostate cancer patients as evidence of redox imbalance. Subjects in monogamous relationships compared to polygamous, rural dwellers, farmers, individuals of Hausa ethnicity and subjects who reported no family history of the disease were more predisposed to prostate cancer. Further epidemiological studies are needed to determine the predisposing factors and the potential role of these markers in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of prostate cancer patients in Sokoto in particular and Nigeria in general. Metastatic Cervical and Supraclavicular Lymphadenopathy from Prostate Mimicking Lymphoma: A Case Series

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide and the commonest cause of mortality in men. It is the commonest diagnosed cancer in African men. The earliest and common sites of metastasis are the axial skeleton and regional lymph nodes. Initial presentation of the metastatic disease with cervical or supraclavicular lymphadenopathy is rarely reported. We report 3 cases of metastatic cancer of the prostate presenting initially to physicians with huge cervical and supraclavicular lymph nodes enlargement which on biopsy revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma. On further evaluation, there were non-bothersome storage symptoms, elevated prostate specific antigen and abnormal digital rectal examination. Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided biopsy of hypoechoic nodules revealed high-grade adenocarcinoma of the prostate on histopathological examination. The cervical and supraclavicular lymphadenopathy resolved after commencement of androgen deprivation therapy. We advocate for prostate cancer screening in African men above 50 years of age presenting with cervical or supraclavicular lymphadenopthy to primary care physicians even in the absence of lower urinary tract symptoms.

Object segmentation and recognition is an imperative area of computer vision andmachine learning that identifies and separates individual objects within an image or video and determines classes or categories based on their *** proposed system presents a distinctive approach to object segmentation and recognition using Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs).The system takes RGB images as input and uses a k-means clustering-based segmentation technique to fragment the intended parts of the images into different regions and label thembased on their ***,two distinct kinds of features are obtained from the segmented images to help identify the objects of *** Artificial Neural Network(ANN)is then used to recognize the objects based on their *** were carried out with three standard datasets,MSRC,MS COCO,and Caltech 101 which are extensively used in object recognition research,to measure the productivity of the suggested *** findings from the experiment support the suggested system’s validity,as it achieved class recognition accuracies of 89%,83%,and 90.30% on the MSRC,MS COCO,and Caltech 101 datasets,respectively.

The excitation mechanism of coronal quasi-period fast-propagating(QFP)wave trains remains *** Atmospheric Imaging Assembly onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory observations,we study a narrow and a broad QFP wave trains excited one after another during the successive eruptions of filaments hosted within a fan-spine magnetic system on October 20,*** consecutive occurrence of these two types of QFP wave trains in the same event provides an excellent opportunity to explore their excitation mechanisms and compare their physical *** observational results reveal that narrow and broad QFP wave trains exhibit distinct speeds,periods,energy fluxes,and relative intensity amplitudes,although originating from the same active region and being associated with the same GOES C2.9 *** wavelet analysis,we find that the narrow QFP wave train shares a similar period with the flare itself,suggesting its possible excitation through the pulsed energy release in the magnetic reconnection process that generated the accompanying *** the other hand,the broad QFP wave train appears to be associated with the energy pulses released by the successive expansion and unwinding of filament ***,it is plausible that the broad QFP wave train was also excited by the sequential stretching of closed magnetic field lines driven by the erupting *** findings shed light on the different excitation mechanisms and origins of the QFP wave trains.

Intelligent vehicle tracking and detection are crucial tasks in the realm of highway ***,vehicles come in a range of sizes,which is challenging to detect,affecting the traffic monitoring system’s overall *** learning is considered to be an efficient method for object detection in vision-based *** this paper,we proposed a vision-based vehicle detection and tracking system based on a You Look Only Once version 5(YOLOv5)detector combined with a segmentation *** model consists of six *** the first step,all the extracted traffic sequence images are subjected to pre-processing to remove noise and enhance the contrast level of the *** pre-processed images are segmented by labelling each pixel to extract the uniform regions to aid the detection phase.A single-stage detector YOLOv5 is used to detect and locate vehicles in *** detection was exposed to Speeded Up Robust Feature(SURF)feature extraction to track multiple *** on this,a unique number is assigned to each vehicle to easily locate them in the succeeding image frames by extracting them using the feature-matching ***,we implemented a Kalman filter to track multiple *** the end,the vehicle path is estimated by using the centroid points of the rectangular bounding box predicted by the tracking *** experimental results and comparison reveal that our proposed vehicle detection and tracking system outperformed other state-of-the-art *** proposed implemented system provided 94.1%detection precision for Roundabout and 96.1%detection precision for Vehicle Aerial Imaging from Drone(VAID)datasets,respectively.
