h.alth.are-associated infection is a common problem of newborn in neonatal intensive care units. It results in h.gh.mortality rate and serious complications. Th. Aim: to assess th. incidence, etiology and th. mortality of h.alth.areassociated infections of patients in neonatal intensive care unit at King Abdl Aziz Specialist h.spital (KAASh., Taif, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Material and Meth.ds: Th.s is a retrospective study including 8033 neonates admitted to neonatal intensive care unit during period between April, 2006 and December, 2012. Th. h.alth.care associated infection rate, mortality rate, causative organism and risk factors were studied. Results: Th. prevalence of h.alth.care associated infection was found to be 6.03%;th. mortality rate was 27.1%. Th. h.gh.st prevalence was among ch.ldren with.th. birth.weigh. below 1000 g. Th. most frequent causative path.gen was klebseilla spp, followed by oth.r gram negative bacilli. Conclusion: Th. rate of h.alth.are-associated infections in neonatal intensive care unit at KAASh.was relatively h.gh. In addition, th. mortality rate was observed to be h.gh.(27.1%) owing to th. h.gh.virulence of th. causative organisms.

In th.s paper, Ruth.nium Isotopes with.neutron N = 60, 62 h.ve been studied th. ground state bands using Matlab computer code interacting boson model (IBM-1). We apply IBM-1 formula for O(6) symmetry in Ru isotopes with.neutron N = 60, 62. Th. th.oretical energy levels up to spin-parity 12+ h.ve been obtained for 104,106Ru isotopes. Th. yrast states, gamma band, beta band, and B(E2) values are calculated for th.se nuclei. Th. experimental and calculated R4/2 values indicate th.t th. even-even 104-106Ru isotopes h.ve O(6) dynamic symmetry. Th. calculated results are compared to th. experimental data and are found in good h.rmony with.each.oth.r. Th. plots of th. potential energy surface of both.nuclei are O(6) ch.racters.

Background: Bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a vital element of patient survival. Th.refore, th. aim of th. present study was to assess sources of knowledge about CPR and its association with.demograph.cal ch.racteristics in Saudi Arabia. Meth.dology: Data about CPR were obtained from 440 Saudi volunteers living in th. city of h.il, North.rn Saudi Arabia. Results: Out of th. 440 study subjects, 257/440 (58.4%) individuals were found to know about CPR. Out of 257 individuals, 154/257 (60%) were males and 103/257 (40%) were females. Conclusion: Th. level of awareness toward CPR in general population of North.rn Saudi Arabia, wh.ch.requires more efforts at community basis. Th. most effective source for raising awareness is th. appropriate utility of social media, as well as, implementing sustainable program for delivering CPR training courses evolving all community settings.

Astragalus sinicus extract to a copper sulfate *** acaricidal,larvicidal,and repellent activities of Cu NPs against *** were assessed via th. adult immersion test,th. larval packet test,and th. vertical movement beh.vior of tick larvae,*** effects of Cu NPs on acetylch.linesterase as well as oxidative enzyme activities were ***:Th. green synth.sized Cu NPs displayed a sph.rical form with.a size range of 15-75 *** exposure of adult *** to different concentrations of Cu NPs,th. viability rate of adult *** and th. mean number,weigh.,and h.tch.bility of eggs were noticeably reduced,in comparison to th. control group(Ph. viability rate of larvae considerably declined(Ph.th. Can lanth.num doping enh.nce catalytic performance of silver in direct propylene epoxidation over NaMoAg/SiO_2?

In th. attempt to reduce surface free energy of silica to improve interaction of silica with.silver, silica was doped by different amounts of low surface energy lanth.num, La_2O_3, th.ough.impregnation. Th. doped and undoped silica were used as supports for preparation of Na/Ag/Mo/La_2O_3-SiO_2 catalysts. Catalytic performances of th. catalysts were evaluated in direct epoxidation of propylene(DPO) using molecular oxygen under atmosph.ric pressure and with.ut adding h.drogen. Adding 5 wt%La to th. Na/Ag/Mo/SiO_2 catalyst improves both.th. catalysts electivity in DPO and its stability over 20h.of *** ch.racterization results sh.w th.t La_2O_3 species interact strongly with.silver particles on th. silica surface wh.ch.result in significant improvement in th. dispersion profile of silver and marked decrease in th. size of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). Th. estimated mean diameter of AgNPs is ca. 4.0 nm in Na/Ag/Mo/5 wt%La_2O_3-SiO_2, wh.ch.is smaller th.n th.t(53.9 nm) found in Na/Ag/SiO_2. Th. presence of subnanometer AgNPs on Ag/La_2O_3-SiO_2 prior addition of MoO_3 and NaCl to th. sample can enh.nce th. mutual electronic synergism between Ag, MoO_3 and Na for selective production of propylene oxide.

Long-Term Visibility Trends in th. Riyadh.Megacity, Central Arabian Peninsula and Th.ir Possible Link to Solar Activity

In th.s study, atmosph.ric visibility (AV) data from Riyadh. Saudi Arabia (24.91˚N, 46.41˚E, 760 m), for th. period 1976-2011 were utilized to investigate th. interannual, month.y, and seasonal AV variations and trends. Th. magnitudes of th.se trends were ch.racterized and tested using mann-kendall (MK) rank statistics at different significance levels. No significant trend in AV was observed during th. 36-year period. h.wever, a significant increase in th. annual mean AV by 0.24 km per year for th. period between 1976 and 1999 was found. For th. period 1999-2011, AV decreased significantly by 0.16 km per year. Th. potential effects of air temperature and relative h.midity on AV were investigated. Wh.le th.se two variables could explain th. observed trend of AV over some periods, th.y failed to do so for th. wh.le study period. To search.for extraterrestrial causes for long-term AV variations, correlation analyses between th. time series of cosmic ray (CR) data (measured by NM and muon detector) and solar activity (represented by sunspot number) and AV were conducted and sh.wed th.t th.se two variables are able to explain th. AV variations for th. wh.le study period. Additionally, power spectra analyses were conducted to investigate periodicities in th. AV time series. Several significant periodicities, such.as 9.8, 5.2, 2.2, 1.7, and 1.3 years were recognized. Th. obtained periodicities were similar to th.se reported by several investigators and found in solar, interplanetary, and CR parameters. Th. spectral and correlation results suggested th.t, with.th. expected effects of terrestrial and meteorological conditions on AV, long-term AV variations can also be related to th. solar activity and associated CR modulations.

COVID-19 and Malaria: A Comparative Study of Epidemiology, Burden, and Ch.llenges

Introduction: Assessing global h.alth.status includes tracking illness, disability, and mortality. Environmental and social factors as well as h.alth.initiatives impact people’s h.alth. Assessing h.alth.outcomes in terms of mortality and morbidity, wh.ch.are included in th. global disease burden, is critical for monitoring progress in development and h.alth. as well as for selecting h.w to allocate available resources effectively, to ach.eve positive h.alth.outcomes. Studies on th. epidemiology, burden, and ch.llenges of COVID-19 and malaria remain scarce. Th.re isn’t much.information on h.w malaria susceptibility and immune response are affected by co-infection with.COVID-19, and vice versa. Th.s article h.gh.igh.s th. commonalities between malaria and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), reviews th. epidemiology, burden, and ch.llenges of each. and outlines h.w global h.alth.auth.rities h.ve responded to th. burden and ch.llenges. Meth.ds: We used Th. World h.alth.Organization Disease Situation Dash.oard as th. primary resource for obtaining information on malaria and COVID-19. Th. World Malaria Reports for 2020 and 2021 were used as th. primary sources for th. statistics on malaria. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze th. data collected. Results: Th. number of malaria death. and cases h.s decreased significantly worldwide since 2000, but th. African region continues to bear th. greatest burden of malaria. Th. h.gh.st number of death. due to COVID-19 occurred in th. Americas, followed by Europe. Th. burden is ligh.er in South.ast Asia, th. Eastern Mediterranean, th. western Pacific, and Africa. Th.re h.s been a decline in th. number of death. caused by COVID-19 in areas wh.re malaria is endemic. Furth.r, th. COVID-19 pandemic h.s increased th. burden of malaria in Africa. Conclusion: Public h.alth.auth.rities sh.uld consider taking necessary preventive measures to figh. malaria and COVID-19 in a timely manner and ensure continuous h.alth.are for th.se wh.

Epidemiological Descriptive Analysis of Disease Outbreaks in 2019 in Sudan

Background: Sudan h.s often faced outbreaks of malaria, th. life-th.eatening waterborne disease. In 2019, th. country experienced an outbreak of six different infectious diseases, i.e., ch.lera, ch.kungunya, dengue fever, diph.h.ria, malaria, and Rift Valley fever. Objectives: Th. aim of th.s study was to perform an epidemiological descriptive analysis of data of th.se disease outbreaks to determine th. spatial and temporal patterns of outbreaks and to estimate th. magnitude of th. diseases. Meth.ds: Th. data consisted of th. number of cases and death. due to disease outbreaks of ch.lera, ch.kungunya, dengue fever, diph.h.ria, malaria, and Rift Valley fever. We analyzed th. reports of an investigation conducted by th. World h.alth.Organization and th. Federal Ministry of h.alth. Sudan. Descriptive statistics and case fatality rate (CFR) were used in th.s study. Results: Th. frequency of disease occurrence was as follows: ch.lera (344 cases), ch.kungunya (308 cases), dengue fever (4236 cases), diph.h.ria (105 cases), malaria (5,188,135 cases) and River Valley fever (567 cases). Th. CFRs for ch.lera, ch.kungunya, are diph.h.ria were 4.3%, 2.05%, and 9.5%, respectively. Th. mortality rate of malaria was 0.0013. Th. states most affected by outbreaks of th.se diseases in Sudan were th. western states. Women were at a h.gh.r risk for all diseases, except River Valley fever. Conclusions: Th.s study h.gh.igh.s th. patterns of th. outbreak of th.se diseases in Sudan and provides a basis for future scientific research.
