The effects of the mechanical factors with applied loads on the tribological performance of refined,bleached and deodorised(RBD) palm stearin(PS) were studied using a four-ball *** the RBD PS results were simultaneously compared with the additive-free paraffinic mineral oil(PMO).The experiments were carried out using different loads with a constant speed in order to gain a better understanding of the mechanical processes that occurred during the *** each experiment,the temperature was increased to 75 °C and was run for 1 *** a mechanical system,lubricant plays an important role in reducing wear and *** exists as a semi-solid at room temperature after the fractionation process from oil *** to the increasing rate of pollution to the environment,vegetable oil was chosen as the test lubricant with regard to its *** advantages of vegetable oil are that it is more easily harvestable and non-toxic compared to petroleum-based oil,which made it a suitable *** the experiment,RBD PS is found to have a better friction constraint reduction compared with additive-free PMO.

This paper reports a series of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo mechanical and corrosion studies of pin and screw prototype made of friction welded pure iron and 316 L type stainless steel aiming to evaluate the applicability of the partially removable bone screws. Results showed that the pin possesses bending, tensile and torsional strengths of1706±147, 666±7 and 0.34±0.03 MPa, respectively. The pin degraded at an average weight loss rate of 17.15×10-5 g cm-2 day-1 and released Fe ions at an average concentration of 2.38 ppm. Plastic deformation induced by torsion increased the corrosion rate of the pin from 0.0014 to 0.0137 mm *** maximum pull-out load of the screw prototypes was3800 N with a calculated failure strength by shear load equal to22.2 k N which is higher than the strength of the cortical *** analysis of the rat's blood cells during 60 days of the pin implantation indicated a normal response with low neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio of 0.3-0.5. Iron ion concentration in the rat's blood slightly increased from 55 to 61 ppm without affecting the tissue recovering and healing phase. Histological evaluation confirmed the presence of macrophage cells as a normal response to the released iron particles around the iron section of the pin.

Objective: A preliminary study showed that geraniin extracted from Nephelium lappaceum L. at 50 mg/kg caused reduction in blood glucose and insulin resistance. The present study serves to further investigate the effects of geraniin at increasing doses between 3.125 and 100 mg/kg in high-fat diet-treated ***: Geraniin(95% purity) was extracted and purified from rambutan rind. Two groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with 60% high-fat diet and standard rat chow, respectively, for 12 ***-fat diet-treated rats were then administered geraniin at different doses. Body weight, blood pressure and blood glucose readings were measured. At the end of treatment, blood was collected for analysis of glycated haemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), insulin, advanced glycation end-product(AGE) levels, renin, aldosterone and ***: Within the first week of treatment, even the lowest dose of geraniin caused a significant reduction in blood pressure, which was comparable to control diet-treated rats. There were no changes in serum electrolytes, renin or aldosterone. Similarly, there was a significant reduction in serum insulin,insulin resistance and AGE levels at the lowest dose. However, there was no significant decrease in fasting blood glucose or HbA1c. The effects of decreasing insulin, insulin resistance and AGEs were observed only at the lower doses, unlike the results observed for blood pressure ***: Geraniin at lower doses improved blood pressure and other metabolic parameters. Secondary metabolites of geraniin, associated with antihypertensive activity, are relatively different to those involved in inhibiting AGE formation and increasing insulin sensitivity. The secondary metabolites of geraniin may be individually responsible for the bioactivities demonstrated.

Asia is experiencing a more rapid economic growth compared to any other regions. The contamination of soil and groundwater with metals can mainly be attributed to human activities; therefore, risk assessments to characterize the nature and magnitude of risks to humans and ecological receptors from contaminants are important. Risk assessments are often iterative processes, which involve identification and filling data gap. Experimental samplings, geostatistical and multivariate statistical methods as well as multimedia risk assessment modeling are the three major methodologies used in the assessment of metal contamination in soil and *** review highlights a number of measurements for improving risk calculation methods and expounds scientific approaches that involve the identification of the major source of contamination, exposure pathways and bioavailability of metals. In general, risk assessments of metals in soil and groundwater worldwide are mainly focused on the levels of contamination, identification of exposure pathways, and prediction of the probability of contamination. To date, very limited studies have reported the development of relevant environmental laws and policies in the regulation of soil and groundwater contamination in Asia. The development, variations and limitations in the regulations of soil and groundwater contamination among developed countries may provide helpful guidance for the developing countries in Asia.

A series of alumina supported cobalt oxide based catalysts doped with noble metals such as ruthenium and platinum were prepared by wet impregnation *** variables studied were difference ratio and calcination ***/Co(10∶90)/Al2O3 catalyst calcined at 700 ℃ was found to be the best catalyst which able to convert 70.10% of CO2 into methane with 47% of CH4 formation at maximum temperature studied of 400 ℃.X-ray diffraction analysis showed that this catalyst possessed the active site Co3O4 in face-centered cubic and PtO2 in the orthorhombic phase with Al2O3 existed in the cubic *** to the FESEM micrographs,both fresh and spent Pt/Co(10∶90)/Al2O3 catalysts displayed small particle size with undefined *** Adsorption analysis showed that 5.50% reduction of the total surface area for the spent Pt/Co(10∶90)/Al2O3 ***,Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis(EDX) indicated that Co and Pt were reduced by 0.74% and 0.14% respectively on the spent Pt/Co(10∶90)/*** using FT-IR and TGA-DTA analysis revealed the existence of residual nitrate and hydroxyl compounds on the Pt/Co(10∶90)/Al2O3 catalyst.

Objective: To investigate the larvicidal and pupicidal activities of aqueous, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Catharanthus roseus ( C. roseus ) against malaria and filariasis vectors. Methods: The larvicidal and pupicidal activities of C. roseus leaf extracts were tested against the fourth instar larvae and pupae of Anopheles stephensi ( An. stephensi ) and Culex quinquefasciatus ( Cx. quinquefasciatus ). The mortality was observed after 24 and 48 h post the treatment. The data were subjected to probit analysis to determine the lethal concentrations (LC 50 and LC 90 ) at which 50% and 90% of the treated larvae or pupae of the tested species were killed. Results: The larval and pupal mortality were observed after 24 and 48 h of exposure of aqueous, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of C. roseus ; no mortality was observed in the control group. The LC 50 values against the fourth-instar larvae of An. stephensi were 68.62 and 72.04 mg/mL for the aqueous extract, 82.47 mg/mL for the ethyl acetate extract, and 78.80 and 86.64 mg/mL for the methanol extract, while the aqueous, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts had LC 50 values of 85.21, 76.84 and 94.20 mg/mL against the fourth-instar larvae of Cx. quinquefasciatus . The aqueous, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts had LC 50 values of 118.08, 182.47 and 143.80 mg/mL against the pupae of An. stephensi and 146.20, 226.84 and 156.62 mg/mL against the pupae of Cx. quinquefasciatus , respectively. Conclusions: The aqueous and methanol extracts of C. roseus leaves had an excellent potential to control the malarial vector An. stephensi and filariasis vector Cx. quinquefasciatus .

Objective:To systematically map the stepwise events leading to deoxyelephantopin-induced cell death of HCT116 human colorectal cancer cells and evaluate the effectiveness of deoxyelephantopin in ***:HCT116 cells were treated with deoxyelephantopin at various concentrations and time *** was confirmed by the detection of autophagosomes and autophagosomal proteins by electron microscopy and Western blotting assays,respectively,and then validated by siRNA *** addition,apoptosis was confirmed by the detection of apoptosis-related *** intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)level was measured using flow *** growth inhibitory effect of deoxyelephantopin was further evaluated in vivo using a mouse xenograft ***:Deoxyelephantopin firstly elevated ROS production,which then triggered autophagic flux with the accumulation of autophagosomal proteins including LC3 A/B,ATG5,and ATG7,followed by the induction of apoptosis via the intrinsic and extrinsic ***-treatment with N-acetyl-L-cysteine,a ROS inhibitor,reversed both apoptosis and *** knockdown of LC3 prevented apoptosis induction which confirmed that deoxyelephantopin induced autophagy-dependent apoptosis in HCT116 *** of ROS also activated apoptosis via the mitogen-activated protein kinases signaling ***,deoxyelephantopin also inhibited the PI3 K/AKT/mTOR pathway,which then released the inhibition of *** vivo study further showed that deoxyelephantopin significantly suppressed the growth of HCT116 subcutaneous xenograft in nude ***:Our findings revealed that deoxyelephantopin elevates oxidative stress and induces ROS-dependent autophagy followed by apoptosis in HCT116 cells via the concerted modulation of multiple signaling *** findings further support the development of deoxyelephantopin as a therapeutic agent for colorectal cancer.
