Effect of quarry dust addition on the performance of controlled low-strength material made from industrial waste incineration bottom ash

The performance of industrial waste incineration bottom ash in controlled low-strength material （CLSM） was investigated in this paper, as the quarry dust was added. CLSM mixtures were made from the industrial waste incineration bottom ash, quarry dust, and cement. Tests for fresh density, bleeding, compressive strength, shear strength, hydraulic conductivity, and excavatability were carried out. The com- pressive strength ranges from 60 kPa to 6790 kPa, the friction angle varies from 5°to 19°, and the cohesion is from 4 to 604 kPa. Most of the mixtures are found to be non-excavatable. It is indicated that the quarry dust addition increases the compressive strength and shear parame- ters, decreases bleeding, and increases the removability modulus.

Effect of diluent and reaction parameter on selective oxidation of propane over MoVTeNb catalyst using nanoflow catalytic reactor

The selective oxidation of propane to acrylic acid over an MoVTeNb mixed oxide catalyst, dried and calcined before reaction has been studied using high-throughput instrumentation, which is called nanoflow catalytic reactor. The effects of catalyst dilution on the catalytic performance of the MoVTeNb mixed oxide catalyst in selective oxidation of propane to acrylic acid were also investigated. The effects of some reaction parameters, such as gas hourly space velocity （GHSV） and reaction temperature, for selective oxidation of propane to acrylic acid over diluted MoVTeNb catalyst have also been studied. The configuration of the nanoflow is shown to be suitable for screen catalytic performance, and its operating conditions were mimicked closely to conventional laboratory as well as to industrial conditions. The results obtained provided very good reproducibility and it showed that preparation methods as well as reaction parameters can play significant roles in catalytic performance of these catalysts.

Nephroprotective effects of Zingiber zerumbet Smith ethyl acetate extract against paracetamol-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in rats

Paracetamol (PCM) overdose can cause nephrotoxicity with oxidative stress as one of the possible mechanisms mediating the event. In this study, the effects of ethyl acetate extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizome [200 mg per kg of body weight (mg/kg) and 400 mg/kg] on PCM-induced nephrotoxicity were examined. Rats were divided into five groups containing 10 rats each. The control group received distilled water while other groups were treated with extract alone (400 mg/kg), PCM alone (750 mg/kg), 750 mg/kg PCM+200 mg/kg extract (PCM+ 200-extract), and 750 mg/kg PCM+400 mg/kg extract (PCM+400-extract), respectively, for seven consecutive days. The Z. zerumbet extract was given intraperitoneally concurrent with oral administration of PCM. Treatment with Z. zerumbet extract at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg prevented the PCM-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative impairments of the kidney, as evidenced by a significantly reduced (P<0.05) level of plasma creatinine, plasma and renal malondialdehyde (MDA), plasma protein carbonyl, and renal advanced oxidation protein product (AOPP). Furthermore, both doses were also able to induce a significant increment (P<0.05) of plasma and renal levels of glutathione (GSH) and plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. The nephroprotective effects of Z. zerumbet extract were confirmed by a reduced intensity of renal cellular damage, as evidenced by histological findings. Moreover, Z. zerumbet extract administered at 400 mg/kg was found to show greater protective effects than that at 200 mg/kg. In conclusion, ethyl acetate extract of Z. zerumbet rhizome has a protective role against PCM-induced nephrotoxicity and the process is probably mediated through its antioxidant properties.

One of the fundamental problems associated with scheduling workflows on virtual machines in a multi-cloud environment is how to find a near-optimum *** workflow scheduling involves assigning independent computational jobs with conflicting objectives to a set of virtual *** optimization methods for solving non-deterministic polynomial-time hardness(NP-hard)problems deploy multi-objective *** such,Pareto dominance is one of the most efficient criteria for determining the best solutions within the Pareto ***,the main drawback of this method is that it requires a reasonably long time to provide an optimum *** this paper,a new multi-objective minimum weight algorithm is used to derive the Pareto *** conflicting objectives considered are reliability,cost,resource utilization,risk probability and *** multi-objective algorithms select a number of permutations with an optimal trade-off between conflicting objectives,we propose a new decisionmaking approach named the minimum weight optimization(MWO).MWO produces alternative weight to determine the inertia weight by using an adaptive strategy to provide an appropriate alternative for all optimal *** way,consumers’needs and service providers’interests are taken into *** standard scientific workflows with conflicting objectives,we compare our proposed multi-objective scheduling algorithm using minimum weigh optimization(MOS-MWO)with multi-objective scheduling algorithm(MOS).Results show that MOS-MWO outperforms MOS in term of QoS satisfaction rate.

Applied bias photon-to-current conversion efficiency of ZnO enhanced by hybridization with reduced graphene oxide

The role of reduced graphene oxide（rGO） in the enhancement of photo-conversion efficiency of ZnO films for photoelectrochemical（PEC） water-splitting applications was analyzed. ZnO and rGO-hybridized ZnO（rGO/ZnO） films were prepared via a two-step electrochemical deposition method followed by annealing at 300 °C under argon gas flow. The physical, optical and electrochemical properties of the films were characterized to identify the effect of rGO-hybridization on the applied bias photon-to-current efficiency（ABPE） of ZnO. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction indicated the formation of verticallyaligned, wurtzite-phase ZnO nanorods. Diffuse-reflectance UV–visible spectroscopy indicated that rGO-hybridization was able to increase the light absorption range of the rGO/ZnO film. UPS analysis showed that hybridization with rGO increased the band gap of ZnO（3.56 eV） to 3.63 eV for rGO/ZnO sample,which may be attributed to the Burstein–Moss effect. Photoluminescence（PL） spectra disclosed that rGOhybridization suppressed electron-hole recombination due to crystal defects. Linear sweep voltammetry of the prepared thin films showed photocurrent density of 1.0 and 1.8 m A/cm;for ZnO and rGO/ZnO at+0.7 V, which corresponded to an ABPE of 0.55% and 0.95%, respectively. Thus, this report highlighted the multi-faceted role of rGO-hybridization in the enhancement of ZnO photo-conversion efficiency.

Determination of Water Quality of Rivers under Various Land Use Activities Using Physico-chemical Parameters and Bacterial Populations in Northern Peninsular Malaysia

A study on water quality of rivers with different land use activities by using physico-chemical parameters and bacterial population was conducted around Kedah, Penang and Perak, Malaysia. The water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen(DO), five-day biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5), chemical oxygen demand(COD), total dissolved solids(TDS), total suspended solids(TSS), nitrate, p H, ammonia-nitrogen, water temperature, water depth and velocity were measured and the densities of bacteria which were total coliform(TC) and fecal coliform(FC) were monitored simultaneously using IDEXX-Colilert?technique from selected rivers. The greatest population of TC and FC(>2 419.6 n MPN/100ml) were recorded from industrial rivers while the lowest reading recorded in less disturbed rivers with less than 1 MPN/100 ml. Total coliform count categorized all rivers into Class I and FC count showed five rivers fell into Class I(Sungai Sedim, Bukit Hijau, Teluk Bahang, Kurau and Tukun), two rivers fell into Class IIA(Sungai Batu Hampar and Salleh) and eight rivers fell into IIB categories(Sungai Jerejak,Pinang, Air Hitam, Kluang, Chelong, Titi Hayun and Cherok Tokun). There was a significant difference between the TC population with TSS content(r=0.43), TDS content(r=0.813), river depth(r=0.513) and DO level(r=-0.401) from all selected *** coliform population was greatly influenced by contents of BOD5(r=0.456), COD(r=0.531), TSS(r=0.813), TDS(r=0.724), and water temperature(r=0.711). The rivers with industrial land-use setting recorded the highest range of water quality index scores and fell into Class III(Sungai Jerejak, Air Hitam and Kluang) and Class V(Sungai Pinang). Both plantation rivers(Sungai Chelong and Sungai Salleh) fell into Class II and all recreational and less disturbed rivers fell into Class I.

Image-Based Feature Extraction Technique for Inclined Crack Quanti cation Using Pulsed Eddy Current

Existing eddy current non-destructive testing(NDT) techniques generally do not consider the inclination angle of inclined cracks, which potentially harms a larger region of a tested structure. This work proposes the use of 2 D scan images generated by using pulsed eddy current(PEC) non-destructive testing(NDT) technique in the quantification of the inclination and depth of inclined cracks. The image-based feature extraction technique e ectively identifies the crack axis, which consequently enables extraction of features from the extracted linear scans. The technique extracts linear scans from the images to allow the extraction of three novel image-based features, namely the length of extracted linear scans(LLS), the linear scan skewness(LSS), and the highest value on linear scan(LSmax). The correlation of the three features to surface crack inclination angles and depths were analysed and found to be highly dependent on the crack depths, while only LLS and LSS are correlated to the crack inclination angles.

In this paper,we present the analysis of the stellar system HIP 101227 to determine the actual number of components in the system,and their *** use dynamical modeling and complex spectrophotometric(involving atmospheric modeling)techniques with recent data,to determine the physical properties and orbital solution for the system,respectively,with better accuracy than past *** on our analysis,we found that the system is more consistent with being a quadruple rather than a binary or a triple system as suggested by previous *** total mass of the system determined from our SED analysis is 3.42±0.20 M,which is distributed almost equally between the four *** stars are found to be zero-age main sequence stars;i.e.,at the last stage of pre-main sequence,with age less than 200 Myr and spectral types *** four stars have very similar physical characteristics,suggesting that the fragmentation process is the most likely theory for the formation and evolution of the system.
