Label-free colorimetric nanosensor with improved sensitivity for Pb^2+ in water by using a truncated 8-17 DNAzyme

Water pollution accidents, such as the Flint water crisis in the United States, caused by lead contamination have raised concern on the safety of drinking water distribution systems. Thus, the routine monitoring of lead in water is highly required and demands efficient, sensitive, cost-effective, and reliable lead detection methods. This study reports a label-free colorimetric nanosensor that uses unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as indicators to enable rapid and ultra-sensitive detection of lead in environmental water. The 8-17 DNAzyme was truncated in this study to facilitate the detachment of single-stranded DNA fragments after substrate cleavage in the presence of Pb「. The detached fragments were adsorbed over AuNPs and protected against salt concentration-induced aggregation. Accordingly, high Pb^2+ would result in rapid color change from blue to pink. The established sensing principle achieved a sensitive limit of detection of 0.2×10^-9mol/L Pb^2+. with a linear working range of two orders of magnitude from 0.5×10^-9mol/L to 5×10^-9mol/L. The selectivity of the nanosensor was demonstrated by evaluating the interfering metal ions. The developed nanosensor can serve as a substitute for the rapid analysis and monitoring of trace lead levels under the drinking water distribution system and even other environmental water samples.

The existence of different organic chemicals is common in industrial effluents and environments. The persistent organic chemicals （POPs） are the well-known organics that are amongst the unsafe and dangerous chemicals, because they have adverse effect to human health. These organics may be found in the fog, in atmosphere, in precipitation, in groundwater, surface water and soil. These toxic chemicals could be spread through living organisms and food chain and interact with other contamination. All together, the result is critical damage of natural equilibriums, thus, interaction of organics with prospective adsorbents can influence the environmental behavior and fate. Sorption characteristics and bio-toxicity are the leading focuses in contaminant behavior studies, largely because these two processes are ubiquitous in all environmental media. However, in the past few years, different results were reported in literature depending upon the experimental conditions, concluding both increased and decreased sorption. Adsorption of di-ethyl phthalate （DEP）, a selected chemical from different phthalic acid esters （PAEs） by different multi-wallled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs） were conducted under different water chemical conditions to investigate the influence of thermodynamics in combination with site-sorption energy distribution and pH *** nanotubes have been extensively studied as a potential material to be used in a variety of applications because of their specific and tunable physical and chemical properties. The fast growth in industrial applications and production of CNTs, however, has also lifted serious concerns over their potential impacts on living organisms due to the evidence of their toxicity. The toxicities of CNTs mainly come from the toxic substances adsorbed on them rather than their own harmful natures. The effect of different initial densities of nematode (Meloidogyne javanica) on the build-up of Pasteuria penetrans population

Pasteuria penetrans will build-up faster where there is a high initial nematode density and can suppress root-knot nematode populations in the roots of tomato plants. The effect of different initial densities of nematode (Meloidogyne javanica)(150, 750, 1500, 3000) and P. penetrans infected females (F1, F3) densities (F0=control and AC=absolute control without nematode or P. penetrans inoculum) on the build-up of Pasteuria population was investigated over four crop cycles. Two major points of interest were highlighted. First, that within a confined soil volume, densities of P. penetrans can increase >100 times within 2 or 3 crop cycles. Second, from a relatively small amount of spore inoculum, infection of the host is very high. There were more infected females in the higher P. penetrans doses. The root growth data confirms the greater number of females in the controls particularly at the higher inoculum densities in the third and fourth crops. P. penetrans generally caused the fresh root weights to be higher than those in the control. P. penetrans has shown greater reduction of egg masses per plant at most *** effects of different initial densities of M. javanica and P. penetrans on the development of the pest and parasite populations were monitored. And no attempt was made to return the P. penetrans spores to the pots after each crop so the build-up in actual numbers of infected females and spores under natural conditions may be underestimated.

Thermophysical analysis of the crustal rocks is important for heat transfer determination and insulation purposes to save energy in *** the presented work,thermophysical properties of four limestones were investigated in dry and moist state under ambient conditions by using a transient plane source method.A thermal constant analyzer was used to raise the sample temperature and to measure the thermal properties in the temperature range of 300 K to 433 *** conductivity and diffusivity were measured by developing a linear relationship between temperature response of TPS (transient plane source) sensor and dimensionless time function through least-square fitting *** experimental observations and predicted thermal conductivity of samples have shown that in-situ observations are important to determine the thermal properties *** effect of temperature on thermal properties of limestone was defined by considering the chemical composition of the samples and associated heat transfer *** thermal conductivity and diffusivity of limestone decreased while specific heat capacity increased with a rise in *** overall findings indicate that the spinoff of this research is useful in studying the reliance of thermophysical properties of rocks on their structures and lithology.

High-frequency field intensity along focal point of a long metallic parabolic reflector coated by a magnetized plasma layer using oblique incidence

Theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic field distribution in the focal region of a long metallic parabolic reflector that has its surface covered with a magnetized plasma layer is derived. The incident wave is considered to be with a general oblique incidence for both parallel and perpendicular polarizations. The electromagnetic field intensity expressions along the focal region are obtained accurately using Maslov＇s method. The effects of plasma thickness on the reflected and transmitted field distributions are investigated. The effects of other physi- cal parameters such as the angle of incidence and the plasma and cyclotron frequencies on the transmitted field- intensity distribution along the focal region are also studied. The results obtained by Maslov＇s method and Kirchhoff＇s approximation are found to be in a good agreement.

Saindak is one of the typical porphyry Cu deposits(PCDs)in the Chagai magmatic arc in ***-forming porphyries at Saindak PCD are mainly composed of ***,we use geochemistry of apatite enclosed in plagioclase phenocrysts from the ore-forming tonalite to constrain the releasing and recharging processes of S and Cl in the underlying parental magma chamber during PCD *** apatite inclusions have homogeneous intra-grain S and Cl compositions,there is significant inter-grain S and Cl variations in apatite inclusions located from core to rim in the hosting *** inter-grain S and Cl variation in apatites are coupled with the core-to-rim trends of An,FeO and Mg contents of the hosting plagioclase *** indicates that the Saindak PCD likely formed by episodic injection of primitive magmas during the growth of an underlying magma chamber,rather than by one major injection or by addition of mafic melt derived from different source *** primitive melt injection introduced essential ore-forming materials such as S and Cl,which were rapidly and effectively released to the coexisting fluids,causing *** primitive melt injection stops,signaling the end of growth of underlying magma chamber,mineralization will cease quickly although the hydrothermal system can still survive for a long ***,the later released fluids are relatively depleted in ore-forming materials,and thus have lower capability to generate ***,predominant porphyry-type mineralizations occurred during the growth rather than waning stage of a magmatic system.

In this study,we report that Berlin Green(FeFe-BG)framework exhibits superior performance in the catalytic coupling of carbon disulfide(CS_(2))and propylene oxide(PO)to generate a random copolymer containing thioether,propylene monothiocarbonate and ether *** and sulfur atom exchange was detected in polymeric and cyclic thiocarbonate byproducts and utilized to modulate the copolymerization of CS_(2)and propylene *** coupling of PO and CS_(2)was selective for copolymer formation under various reaction conditions.^(1)H and^(13)C NMR spectroscopy determined two distinct polymer linkages and two cyclic *** number average molecular weights ranged from 6.4 kg/mol to 10.5 kg/mol,with a comparatively low polydispersity of *** CS_(2)/PO molar feed ratio had a significant impact on the O/S exchange process;the ratio of cyclic thiocarbonate byproducts could be efficiently regulated by tuning the CS_(2)molar feed ratio.

A Micro Structure POF Relative Humidity Sensor Modified With Agarose Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance and Evanescent Wave Loss

A novel high sensitivity relative humidity(RH)sensor was proposed by using micro structure plastic optical fiber(POF)based on the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)effect and the evanescent wave(EW)*** micro structure was fabricated on the POF and coated with a gold layer and agarose,adopting the sputtering and dip-coating *** construction effects on the attenuation of power caused by the SPR effect and the EW loss were used to perform RH *** agarose9s different refractive indexes(RIs)caused fluctuations in the transmission power when the humidity *** demonstrated experimental results showed that the proposed sensor achieved a linear response from 20%RH to 80%RH with a high sensitivity of 0.595μW/%.The proposed sensor had the advantages of fast response and ***,the temperature dependence and the repeatability test of the sensor were also performed.
