The present experimental study assesses laboratory and field efficacy of the larvicide span>span>span>VectoMaxspan>span>span>®span>span>span>Gspan>span>span> on Anopheline and Culicine larval stages in Yaoundé. Methods: The effect of the larvicide span>span>span>VectoMaxspan>span>span>®span>span>span>G,span>span>span> a combination of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) span>span>span>span>and Bacillus sphaericus (Bs),span>span>span> on larval development was assessed during both laboratory and open field trial experiments. Introduction: Hyperuricemia is defined as a level of serum uric acid greater than or equal to 70 mg/l (420 μmol/l) in men and 60 mg/l (360 μmol/l) in women. several studies have shown that it is a risk factor or a factor of progression of chronic kidney disease. Recent experimental and epidemiological data correlate the association of hyperuricemia with chronic kidney disease (CKD), arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, thus raising the question of the usefulness of therapeutics in the prevention of renal diseases. The objective of this study is to seek a link between chronic kidney disease and hyperuricemia. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive and analytical study conducted at hemodialysis unit and cardiology service of General Hospital of National reference of N’Djamena (Chad) from 1th January to 1th October 2013 (10 months). We included all chronic kidney disease patients hospitalized in hemodialysis unit and cardiology service who presented associated hyperuricemia. Results: There were 712 CKD patients who were hospitalized. Among them, there were 108 patients who were included in the study and who had hyperuricemia as a prevalence of 15.20%. The average age of patients was 35.5 years and the sex ratio was 3/1. The age group between 40 to 60 years represented 54.6%. There were 41.7% of traders. Hypertensive patients accounted for 49.1%;association of diabetes and hypertension was noted in 12.90%. Renal insufficiency was moderate in 43.5% of patients. Hyperuricemia was present in more than 90% of patients. Profession, age, hematuria, proteinuria and hypertension were statistically positively related to hyperuricemia. Treatment consisted of prescribing allopurinol in 84% of patients. In more than 11% of patients the progression was unfavorable. Conclusion: The implication of hyperuricemia in chronic kidney disease has been proved in several recent studies. Introduction: Burkina Faso experiences regular cases of streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis. As part of the strategy to reduce cases of meningitis, the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-13) has been introduced in the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI). Despite these efforts, there are some cases of pneumococcal meningitis including both vaccine and non-vaccine serotypes. The objective of this study was to describe the pneumococcal sequence types (sT) circulating in Burkina Faso before the introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-13). Methods: It was a descriptive cross-sectional study that took place from 27th October 2013 to 7th January 2014. s. pneumoniae strains were collected in Burkina Faso and Multi Locus sequence Typing (MLsT) was performed at the Pneumococcal Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the UsA (United states of America). MLsT consists of 4 steps: amplification, purification, sequencing and interpretative reading of the results. The amplification used 7 primers consisting of sequences of aroe, gdh, gki, recP, spi, xpt, ddl genes. Results: Of 37 strains tested, 10 serotypes were identified. serotype 1 was prevalent in 48.7% (18/37) followed by serotype 25F in 10.8% (4/37). serotypes 5 and 12F/12A/12B/44/46 were 8.1% (3/37) each. serotype 1 contained 5 sTs including sT303 24.3% (9/37), sT217 8.1% (3/37) and sT618 8.1% (3/37);followed by serotype 25F with sT105 10.8% (4/37), serotype 5 with sT289 8.1% (3/37) and serogroup 12F/12A/12B/44/46 with sT 989 8.1% (3/37). Conclusion: Pneumococci are characterised by their great variability both in number of serotypes and in sT within the same serotype. Thus, 10 serotypes have been identified. Also, within serotype 1, 5 different sTs have been described. These data indicate the complexity of the pneumococcus which is strongly involved in purulent bacterial meningitis at national level. Von Willebrand’s disease was first described in 1926 by Erik Von Willebrand. It is a genetic, constitutional defect of hemostasis that is different from hemophilia. It is classified among the rare diseases whose clinical manifestations are dominated by a hemorrhagic profile, which varies from patient to patient. It is an easily diagnosed disease based on a quantitative and qualitative bioassay of VWF. Treatment is multidisciplinary and is based on well-structured prevention. We report the first case of von Willebrand disease in Niger, diagnosed in the Hematology Department of Niamey’s National Hospital.

The Frequency of the v-AKT Murine Thymoma Viral Oncogene Homologue 1 Gene Amplification among sudanese Women with Ovarian Cancer: A Cross-sectional study

Background: Protein kinase B (AKT/PKB) family is frequently amplified in ovarian cancer (OC). To the greatest of our knowledge, there is a lack of published reports about the amplification of the genes belonging to the AKT family among sudanese women with OC. The present study was conducted to detect the AKT1 gene amplification and its association with tumour types, grades, and ages among sudanese women with OC, bearing in mind the ethnic variation. Methods: This institution-based study included 79 cases of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer (OC) at Omdurman Maternity Hospital in the period 2013-2018. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections were used to extract RNA. AKT1 gene amplification was assessed using quantitative real-time PCR. Results: The mean age (±sD) of included women was 49.29 (±13.612). The amplification of AKT1 gene was observed in 18/79 (22.8%) of OC women, with a high frequency in women with undifferentiated 1/2 (50%), clear cell 2/6 (33.3%), mucinous 3/11 (27.3%), endometrioid 3/17 (17.6%), and serous carcinomas 5/30 OC (16.7%). High frequency was seen in women with low (26.3%;n = 10/28) rather than in higher (19.5%;n = 8/33) grade carcinoma, and in older (25.8%;n = 8/23) rather than younger (18.2%;n = 2/9) women. No significant association between AKT1 gene amplification and tumour types, grades, and ages of women was observed (Fisher’s Exact test: p = 0.405, 0.593 and 0.851, respectively). Conclusion: AKT1 gene amplification arises in around one-fifth of sudanese women with ovarian cancer (OC). It is seen more in undifferentiated, clear cell, and mucinous tumours types, and more frequently in low tumour grade and older women, but not to a statistically significant level. These outcomes sustenance previous studies suggesting that activated AKT genes have a vital role in OC progression and may offer a plan for targeted therapy and prognostic evaluation.

Introduction: The incidence of acute renal injury (AKI) has increased in recent decades. Acute renal failure is defined by the abrupt arrest (within hours or days) of the kidney excretory function. Oliguria (urine output 24h) is presented in about half of the cases. The circumstances of the occurrence of AKI are multiple: surgical, traumatic, obstetric, medical, often obvious. Its prognosis depends on the speed of management and the associated organ failure. The objective of this study is to describe the profile of patients in emergency hemodialysis at the Nephrology Unit of the National Reference General Hospital (HGRN) in N’Djamena, Chad. Methods: This was a multicenter, descriptive study in patients with acute renal failure place over a period of 12 months in the emergency departments of the 2 hospitals in N’Djamena. Defined as carriers of an AKI (RIFLE criteria), patients with: 1) Oliguria: urinary output 400 ml/24h (ssociated with an increase in serum creatinine: serum creatinine × 3 or serum creatinine> 350 μmol/l or decrease of GFR by 75%. Results: Of the 311 patients admitted, 36 cases met the inclusion criteria, a frequency of 11.57%. The mean age was 34.46 years with extremes ranging from 7 to 80 years. The female sex predominated with 52.80% as sex ratio of 0.91. Isolated hypertension was noted with 38.88%. Dyspnea accounted for 41.66% of patients admitted to emergency departments. In our series, 50% of our patients had hyperthermia at admission. Oliguria was observed in 41.70% of the cases. Edema accounted for 33.33% of cases. The AKI with the “failure” criterion was 58.34% (21/36), with the criterion “injury” 25% (9 cases) and the criterion “risk” 16.66 (6 cases). AKI were organic in 83.34% (30/36). Introduction: Meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis constitutes a burden for the countries in the meningitis belt of sub-saharan in general and particularly for Burkina Faso. In 2019 the Diapaga health district experienced a meningitis epidemic due to N. meningitidis serogroup C. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a descriptive aim in the health district of Diapaga where all cases of meningitis were included in this work. Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), culture as well as real-time PCR were used for the biological analysis of cerebral spinal fluid (CsF) samples. Results: Of 155 CsF samples analysed, 42% (65/155) were tested positve. Of them, N. meningitidis C accounted for 83% of all positive cases. Likewise, all thirteen (13) NmC strains were susceptible to oxacillin, ceftriaxone, penicillin and chloramphenicol. All strains of NmC belonged to the sequence type (sT) 10 217 and to the clonal complex (CC) 10 217. These CCs belonged to the same variant PorA type: P1.21-15.16;FetA type: F1-7;PorB type: 3-463. Conclusion: Burkina Faso had known an epidemic of meningitis caused by NmC in 2019 in the health district of Diapaga. This outbreak was contained in time due to the performance of the epidemiological surveillance system which made it possible to investigate on time and introduce the vaccine against the pathogen NmC.

Introduction: Painful proctological conditions that are far less pleasant can mar pregnancy and childbirth. In Mali, few studies have been carried out on proctological pathologies in pregnant women and in the postpartum period. Objective: To determine the frequency and identify the risk factors of anal pathologies during pregnancy and in the postpartum period in the obstetric gynecology department of the Centre de santé de Référence de la comme IV du District de Bamako. Mali. Methods and Materials: Our observational study, a cross-sectional cohort survey over a period of nine (09) months from January 1, 2020 to september 30, 2020, was conducted in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Health Center of Reference of Type IV of the District of Bamako. Results: The frequency of anal pathologies during pregnancy and in the post partum period was 24% (36/150). The different anal pathologies found were anal fissures, hemorrhoidal disease, anal incontinence and multiple anal pathologies with respectively 10%;6.67%;5.33%;2%. Chronic constipation (p = 0.003), a newborn weight > 3500 g (p = 0.000) to the occurrence of hemorrhoidal disease. For anal fissures, risk factors were noted such as (weight of the newborn > 3500 g (p = 0.002) and duration of fetal expulsion > 20 minutes (p = 0.000). Finally, a newborn weight > 3500 g (p = 0.000) and a maternal age of up to 30 years (p = 0.001) were associated with the occurrence of anal incontinence. Conclusion: Our study shows that anal pathologies affecting women's intimacy are frequent during pregnancy and in the postpartum period and are part of the many taboos difficult to address in our society.

Introduction: Dyslipidemia is a significant cardiovascular risk factor in patients living with HIV (PLWHIV). Few data are available in Togo. Methods: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study of patients followed at the sylvanus Olympio University Hospital’s infectious diseases department for six months. The study population consisted of any PLWHIV patient on HAART over 18 years of age who had been regularly monitored and had a serum lipid fraction assay. Results: Two hundred and eighty-four patients were included. 75.4% were women. The median age was 46 years (IQR: 39 - 52) and the median CD4 count was 461 cel/U1 (IQR: 330 - 607). Eighty-three percent of the patients had suppressed viral load. The median duration of follow-up under antiretroviral treatment antiretroviral treatment was 4.18 years (IQR: 2 - 7). The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 72.5%. HDL hypocholesterolemia (HDL-c Conclusion: Our study revealed a high prevalence of dyslipidemia in patients on HAART as well as associated factors. To this end, it is necessary to insist on screening for dyslipidemia before and after initiation of HAART in order to prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular events in PLWHIV.
