Maternal and obstetric risk factors for low birth weight and preterm birth in rural Gambia: a hospital-based study of 1579 deliveries

Introduction: Low birth weight and prematurity are risk factors for perinatal morbidity and mortality, which is high in Sub Saharan African countries. We determined the frequency of and maternal and obstetric risk factors for low birth weight and preterm birth among hospital births in rural Gambia. Method: We performed a hospital-based retrospective analysis of deliveries from July to December 2008 in two rural hospitals. Maternity records were reviewed and abstracted of the mother’s demographic and reproductive characteristics, obstetric complications and foetal outcome. The maternity records contain important information maternal health and complications during pregnancy and intrapartum period. The records also contain information about the newborn’s vital status and birth weight. To determine the association between low birth weight (LBW), preterm birth (PTB) and maternal demographic characteristics and obstetric complications we calculated odds using logistic regression. Main outcome measure(s): Low birth weight (<2500 grams) and preterm birth (<37 weeks). Results: Our final sample included 1244 singleton live births with complete information about all variables. The rate of LBW and PTB were 10.5% and 10.9% respectively. Ninety-four percent of LBW infants were estimated to be preterm births. The mean birth weight was 3013 g (541 g standard deviation-SD), while the mean gestational age was 37 weeks. The pattern of risk factors was similar for LBW and PTB and both were strongly associated with antepartum haemorrhage and hypertensive pregnancy disorders. Additionally, primi parity was a risk factor for both PTB and LBW. Conclusion: The percentage of low birth weight and preterm birth in rural hospitals in The Gambia is high. The most significant risk factors were those that may be detected during the antepartum period. Complex variables method has been used to solve the first and second fundamental problems for an infinite plate weakened by a generalized curvilinear hole C. The curvilinear hole is conformally mapped on the domain outside or inside a unit circle γ using a general rational mapping function with complex constants. Many special and new cases are derived from this work. Some of the work of the previous authors in this domain will be considered as special cases of this paper. Also the interesting cases when the shape of the hole takes different famous shapes are included. The components of stresses for some examples are obtained.

地基承载力是基础工程领域的一个主要问题。建筑物的自重和承受的荷载转移到地基上,地基发生剪切破坏时的荷载称为地基极限承载力。现有地基承载力的研究大多关于单层地基,例如砂土层或粘土层,很少有关于成层地基的研究。雨水入渗是导致地基承载力下降的主要原因,降雨条件下成层地基承载力响应研究一直是岩土领域的难题。目前,降雨条件下成层地基承载力的演化研究往往需要复杂的数值模拟手段或实验方法,需要较长的时间和较大的成本。由于数值模拟手段和实验方法的局限性,人们很难了解真实的成层地基承载力演化规律,一些研究者尝试用分析的方法来解决这个问题,并取得了一些成功。本文利用有限元软件Geo-Studio的“SEEP/W”程序,建立了成层地基在均匀型、前峰型、后峰型和中峰型等降雨型式下的基质吸力数值模型。在此基础上,研究了不同降雨型式下成层地基的基质吸力和极限承载力的演化规律,分析了降雨型式、降雨强度和降雨历时对成层地基承载力的影响。主要内容和结论:（1）确定了成层地基参数与降雨强度,利用有限元软件Geo-Studio的“SEEP/W”程序,建立了成层地基数值模拟与确定等雨强入渗过程地基基质吸力瞬态分布状态,计算雨水入渗过程基底平均基质吸力大小,利用Hansen极限承载力公式计算雨水入渗过程成层地基极限承载力大小。（2）揭示了成层地基在不同降雨时间和降雨强度下基质吸力和承载力的演化规律。基于基质吸力数值解和极限承载力表达式,研究了某成层地基10天降雨历时内和0cm/h到0.75cm/h不同降雨强度下,成层地基的基质吸力和极限承载力的演变规律。结果表明:初期未降雨时,初始不饱和成层地基的极限承载力达到饱和地基极限承载力的1.5倍;成层地基平均基质吸力随降雨时间的增加而减小,随降雨强度的增加,先减小后增大。（3）探索了不同雨型式下地基基质吸力和地基极限承载力的演化规律。基于均匀型、前峰型、后峰型和中峰型等常见雨型基质吸力数值解和极限承载力解析表达式,分析了基质吸力和极限承载力的演化规律。结果表明:对于均匀型降雨,降雨时间越长,基质吸力越大,极限承载力越小,对于前峰型降雨,基质吸力随降雨时间的增加先减小后增加,地基极限承载力随降雨强度的增大而减小,对于后峰型降雨,降雨强度越大,基质吸力越小,地基极限承载力也随之降低,对于中峰型降雨,随着降雨时间的增加,基质吸力先减小后增大。随着降雨强度的增加,平均基质吸力减小,地基极限承载力也随之降低。

Impact of Climatic Parameters on the Performance of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Module in Niamey

The sensitivity of mono-crystalline solar PV module towards dust accumulation, ambient temperature, relative humidity, and cloud cover is investigated from May to August 2015 for Niamey’s environment. Two solar modules with the same characteristics have been used to carry out the impacts of the dust on the solar PV module. One of the modules is being cleaned every morning and the second one was used for monitoring the effect of dust accumulation onto the surface of the unclean module for May and June. The ambient temperature around the solar PV module was recorded at the same time with the output voltage and the output current to assess the impacts of ambient temperature on the PV conversion efficiency. In addition to these field test measurements, the solar radiation data measured in National Center of Solar Energy (CNES) of Niamey were also used. Also the relative humidity for the study area data obtained NASA power agro-climatology website was used. Results show that the dust accumulation has the greatest impact on the performance of the PV module followed by temperature, relative humidity and cloud cover. Exposing the module in 23 days has reduced the energy output by 15.29%. The power output and the conversion efficiency of the PV module have dropped by 2.6% and 0.49% respectively. The relative humidity also has reduced the energy output by 4.3 Wh/m2/day.

This work addresses the problem of supervised classification for highly correlated highdimensional data describing non-independent observations to identify SNPs related to a *** use a general penalized linear mixed model with a single random effect that performs simultaneous SNP selection and population structure adjustment in highdimensional prediction ***,the model simultaneously selects variables and estimates their effects,taking into account correlations between *** nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)are a type of genetic variation and each SNP represents a difference in a single DNA building block,namely a *** research has shown that SNPs can be used to identify the correct source population of an individual and can act in isolation or simultaneously to impact a *** this regard,the study of the contribution of genetics in infectious disease phenotypes is of great *** this study,we used uncorrelated variables from the construction of blocks of correlated variables done in a previous work to describe the most related observations of the *** model was trained with 90%of the observations and tested with the remaining 10%.The best model obtained with the generalized information criterion(GIC)identified the SNP named rs2493311 located on the first chromosome of the gene called PRDM16((PR/SET domain 16))as the most decisive factor in malaria attacks.

The study aimed at investigating the geochemistry of a sandstone-type uranium deposit in Tarat formation for provenance, paleo-redox, tectonic setting in order to propose a geological model of uranium. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Induced Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) analyses were used to determine the sandstone composition. Major, trace and rare earth element compositions of the sandstones have been investigated to determine their provenance, tectonic setting and the influence of weathering conditions. Field studies of Tarat formation revealed that a major accident N30° that can be interpreted as an extension of the Austriche accident ensures the controls of Tarat sedimentation and mineralization deposits and the presence oxidized zone and reduced zone indicate the direction of circulation of the mineralized fluids from West to East. The uranium mineralization is disseminated as pitchblende that gives a yellow color to the sandstone while, molybdenum mineralization gives a blue color to the sandstone. Results of the Geochemical analysis indicate that the sandstone-type uranium deposit of Taratis classified into Protoquarzite (i.e. lithearenite and sublitharenite), arkose, subarkose, wacke and quartz arenite and varied in their maturity. Their Rare Earth Elements (REE) pattern displays high light REE over heavy REE, flat HREE and a significant negative Eu and Ce anomalies and in general correlated well with the NASC and PAAS average composition. The source area may have contained quartzose sedimentary rocks. The geochemical data support deposition in reducing environment of arid to humid climatic conditions rich in organic matter affected by passive margin (PM) tectonic setting and the sediments are derived from felsic and mafic source rocks. Historically, the LiCoO2 is the most used as active material for battery positive electrode because of its great potential (3.7 - 4.2 V), its interesting specific capacity (150 mA·h·g-1) and its excellent life cycle [1] 08D0C9EA79F9BACE118C8200AA004BA90B02000000080000000E0000005F005200650066003300390038003500370036003700340032000000 . However, its toxicity, the cobalt cost and its structural instability oriented research towards new materials more stable that can replace it. In another context, hybrid, electrical vehicles and communication (computers and mobile phones...) have increased the scientific and technological research for new materials capable of storing and return energy through a system called accumulator. And research has identified the phosphate olivine structure as the most prolific ceramic material for positive electrode. LiFePO4 is a promising cathode material for Lithium-ion batteries. It provides high thermal stability and is synthesized using low cost materials. Unfortunately LiFePO4 suffers from a low electrical conductivity, which is harmful to its electrochemical performance. Decreasing the particle size, coating the particles with carbon or doping with metal atoms can increase the conductivity of the material. In this paper, we present the synthesis, physico-chemical and electrical characterization of lithium and iron doped Al-phosphorrus-based ceramic. The NPK Fertiliser was used as Al and phosphorus precursors. The powder XRD spectrum shows a possible presence of LiFePO4 and Fe2(PO)3 in theheterostrcture. An important quantity of Al is found by EDX spectra which supposed that the most important based atom is Aluminum and not Phosphorus. This can explain the increase of the conductivity value 102 times more important than those found in the literature for LiFePO4.
