Risks of suicidality in adult patients with epilepsy

AIM: To determine the prevalence and risks of suicidality in a group of patients with epilepsy. METHODS: Included were 200 adult patients and 100 matched healthy subjects. The clinical interview using The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(4th edition), Beck Depression Inventory(2nd edition)(BDI-Ⅱ), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAM-A), Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale(Y-BOCS) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Rating Scale testings were used for diagnosis and assessment of severity of psychiatric symptoms. Blood concentrations of serotonin, catecholamines and dopamine were also ***: Suicidality was reported in 35%(compared to 9% for controls), of them 80%, 72.86%, 55.71% and 52.9% had depression, anxiety, obsession and aggression respectively. Patients with suicidality had higher scores of BDI-Ⅱ(P = 0.0001), HAM-A(P = 0.0001), and Y-BOCS(P = 0.037) and lower scores of psychotic(P = 0.0001) and extroversion(P = 0.025) personality traits. Regardless the presence or absence of suicidality, patients with epilepsy had low serotonin(P = 0.006), noradrenaline(P = 0.019) and adrenaline(P = 0.0001) levels. With suicidality, significant correlations were identified between:(1) age and scores of BDI-Ⅱ(r = 0.235, P = 0.0001) and HAM-A(r = 0.241, P = 0.046);(2) age at onset and concentrations of noradrenaline(r =-0.502, P = 0.024);(3) duration of illness and scores of BDI-Ⅱ(r = 0.247, P = 0.041), Y-BOCS(r = 0.270, P = 0.025) and neurotic personality trait(r =-0.284, P = 0.018); and(4) doses of antiepileptic drugs and scores of psychotic personality traits(r =-0.495, P = 0.006 for carbamazepine; r =-0.508, P = 0.0001 for valproate).CONCLUSION: This is the first study which systematically estimated the prevalence and risks of suicidality in a homogenous group of patients with epilepsy. This study emphasizes the importance of epilepsy itself as a risk for suicidality and not its treatment.

Background: Terminal QRS distortion and fragmentation (fQRS) with elevated myeloperoxidase (MPO) were linked to poor cardiovascular outcomes in acute coronary syndrome. We aimed to investigate these parameters in early prediction of coronary artery disease severity based on SYNTAX score and in-hospital adverse events in STEMI patients. Methods: A total of 215 patients with first STEMI admitted for primary PCI were included in the study. They were divided according to the admission ECG into group I with QRS distortion or fQRS, group II with combined QRS distortion and fQRS, and group III without QRS distortion or fQRS. Myeloperoxidase and troponin I levels, ST resolution ratio, left ventricular EF%, and severity of coronary artery lesions using SYNTAX risk score were measured. Results: MPO level, SYNTAX score, and in-hospital mortality were higher in group I and II and were higher in group II compared to group I. By regression analysis, QRS distortion, fQRS, and MPO > 412 ng/ml were independent predictors of both CAD severity and in-hospital mortality. DM was an independent predictor of CAD severity (OR: 2.851, P 0.012) while high SYNTAX score was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality (OR: 6.113, P 0.001). Adding MPO level to any QRS configuration pattern increased predictive value for the detection of CAD severity that was more evident in the combined QRS distortion and fragmentation. Conclusion: Terminal QRS distortion, fragmentation, or combined QRS distortion and fragmentation have a significant value in predicting in-hospital adverse events and CAD severity

In this work, we have developed a web application for Baccalaureate grades processing in Niger. This online application allows to replace Excel based manual grades processing with fully automated one. Thus, the application helps to minimize the errors caused by the Excel manipulation. It also allows rapid centralization of all results at the exam service level. For the development, we adopted the agile method. This method is very efficient in allowing us to prioritize our real needs and the application is enriched as these needs arise. For the design, we used the UML Modeling language and for the implementation, we used a number of computer tools such as PHP, JavaScript, HTML, Jquery, AJAX, Bootstrap and CSS.

The rapid evolution of technology in the field of wireless telecommunications and micro components using MEMS technologies (Micro-electromechanical systems) has contributed to the expansion and rapid development of wireless sensor networks (WSN). This rapid development has contributed to the appearance of sensor and actuator networks (WSAN) or even to the Internet of Things with DL-IoT (Device Layer-Internet of Things). This rapid evolution of WSN is due to the enthusiasm generated by this last in industry and research. This new technology is used in several applications, particularly in the outdoor location of communicating nodes. The process of distance calculation between nodes (ranging) is a primordial phase for a precise location of these nodes. This paper presents the result of measurements does with three ranging protocols (TWR, TWR_Skew and SDS-TWR) implemented on DecaWiNo nodes. DecaWiNo nodes use the Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) radio links, proposed by the IEEE 802.15.4 standard amendment of the year 2007, which provides a high-performance ranging by ToF (Time of Flight) [1] [2]. The results are very promising with precision errors of the order of 50 cm over 20 meters.

In this paper, we perform experiments on the drying of widely consumed food products in Africa. Tomatoes and peppers are considered as products with a complex structure. Zucchini, cucumber, eggplant and cabbages are the other products used in these drying experiments, having different intrinsic parameters. Most food products have three components, namely skin, flesh containing seeds and the central spongy structure, that do not have the same behavior during their convective drying. Skin is the component that significantly reduces drying while the flesh is easy to dry. By drying the samples considering their intrinsic parameters, one quickly realizes the complex nature of mass and heat transfers during the drying of biological products.

Contribution of the Fundus Examination in the Management of General Pathologies in Hospital in Lomé-Togo

Many general conditions have an impact on the fundus. The purpose of our work was to study the epidemiological profile of patients referred to our service for a review of the fundus and analyze the results. It was a retrospective study description of the examinations of the fundus during the period from January 2016 to December 2017. In the ophthalmology department of the Lomé University Hospital Center, during the study period, 1019 consultations were recorded, of which 727 were for fundus 6.84%. There were 336 men and 391 women, a sex ratio of 0.85. The age group 40 - 69 years accounted for 61.9%. The frequency of the main reasons for the request was hypertension 54.2% (N = 394);hypertension complicated or associated with other conditions (CKI, CKD, pregnancy and diabetes) accounted for 21.6% (N = 157), headache associated with a decrease in visual acuity 8.25% (N = 60), diabetes 6.46% (N = 47) and sickle cell disease 0.69% (N = 5). Hospitalized patients 52.41% (N = 381). The fundus was abnormal in 546 patients or 75.11%. Hypertensive retinopathy was found 80.21% cases in hypertensive patients, diabetic retinopathy 43.42 in diabetic patients. Diabetics Fundus examination in hospital practice found a retinal lesion in three-quarters of cases. It so important to ask the examination of the fundus most often in the current pactise.

Electrical Instability in Pentacene Transistors with Mylar and PMMA/Mylar Gate Dielectrics Transferred by Lamination Process

This study deals with electrical instability under bias stress in pentacene-based transistors with gate dielectrics deposited by a lamination process. Mylar film is laminated onto a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate, on which aluminum (Al) gate is deposited, followed by evaporation of organic semiconductor and gold (Au) source/drain contacts in bottom gate top contact configuration (Device 1). In order to compare the influence of the semiconductor/dielectric interface, a second organic transistor (Device 2) which is different from the Device 1 by the deposition of an intermediate layer of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) onto the laminated Mylar dielectric and before evaporating pentacene layer is fabricated. The critical device parameters such as threshold voltage (VT), subthreshold slope (S), mobility (μ), onset voltage (Von) and Ion/Ioff ratio have been studied. The results showed that the recorded hysteresis depend on the pentacene morphology. Moreover, after bias stress application, the electrical parameters are highly modified for both devices according to the regimes in which the transistors are operating. In ON state regime, Device 1 showed a pronounced threshold voltage shift associated to charge trapping, while keeping the μ, Ioff current and S minimally affected. Regardless of whether Device 2 exhibited better electrical performances and stability in ON state, we observed a bias stress-induced increase of depletion current and subthreshold slope in subthreshold region, a sign of defect creation. Both devices showed onset voltage shift in opposite direction.

Purpose:Description of safety and efficacy of micropulse lYanssderal cydophotocoagulation as a treatment option for refractory ***:This is a prospective study including 39 eyes of 31 patients foil owed for refractory glaucoma,who benefited from transsderal cyclophotocoagulation using a mic topi used *** main indication for tire procedure was increased ocular pressure refractory to quadri therapy in various types of *** patients were tieated using iridex Cyclo G6 laser with a Micropulse P3 infrared probe with a wavelength of 810 *** parameter for tire procedure were a duration of 90 s per hemisphere with a power of 2000 mW and an eneigy of 180 *** tire upper and lower hemispheres were treated in tire same procedure,sparing tire 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock meridians,and aD tire patients benefited from a single treatment *** following parameters were evaluated;ocular pain and overall tolerance;visual acuity;and tire evolution of IOP postoperatively up to 9 ***:The glaucoma subtypes treated are as follows:primaty open-angle glaucoma(n=05),chronic angle-closure glaucoma(n=13),neovascular glaucoma(n=07),aphakic glaucoma(n=06),malignant glaucoma(n=04),post-traumatic angle recession(n=02),and inflammatoiy glaucoma(n=02).The mean pre-operative intraocular pressure was 42.3±5.2 mmHg and tire mean post operative intraocular pressure at 9 months was 16.9±1.9 mmHg The reduction in IOP was 49.9%.The average number of intraocular pressure-lowering medications used prior to surgery was four,and tire average number of medications used at tire 9-month postoperative visit was 2.0±1.2(703%of patients were on dual therapy).The overall success rate was 60.9%.Conclusions:Micropulse transsderal cydophotocoagulation appears to be a safe and effident treatment for refractory *** indications should therefore be broadened and proposed early in various situations.

本文以埃及开罗大学中文系中国诗歌教学为研究对象,主要研究2018、2019和2020年高级学生中国诗歌的习得情况,对中国诗歌课的课程设置、课程师资、课程教材以及教学法四个方面进行调查与思考。学生对课程目标了解程度还可以,但是老师和学生都认为诗歌课程未达到教学目标,主要原因是使用的诗歌教材不好。此外,很多学生还认为中国诗歌对他们的未来工作生活没有帮助,这都是学生对诗歌产生情绪的主要原因。为了解决这个问题,教师可以想出一些方法去激发学生的兴趣,也可以给学生列出涉及到中国诗歌的不同工作。关于师资,开罗大学中文系对上诗歌课的老师的国籍和专业没有具体的要求。而学生都认为中国诗歌课由埃及老师上更好,专业是文学最好,还认为中国老师上课是有困难的。目前埃及缺少关于中国诗歌的相关资料,这是开罗大学中文系负责老师无法选择合适教材的最大阻碍因素。笔者发现,不管是老师还是学生,都对诗歌教材完全不满意。现有教材不足的地方就在于:1、内容不全面,只包括现代诗。2、教材缺乏一些重要的部分,比如“生词解释”、“专业词语”、“专业知识”、“扩展阅读”、“讨论题”、“练习题”等部分。3、诗篇题材不是多样化。老师和学生总体上都认为教材不适合埃及学生学习。中国诗歌课的教学方法方面,大部分学生对使用过的“多媒体法”和“思维导图法”两种教学法满意,就是认为不够有趣味性。通过问卷调查,笔者发现埃及学生对“故事引入法”、“古诗今译法”、“汉阿翻译法”、“画图释词法”、“配乐诵读法”和“诗歌朗诵法”都很感兴趣。
