Increased resistance of drought by Trichoderma harzianum fungal treatment correlates with increased secondary metabolites and proline content

Plant secondary metabolites play vital role in plant stress response. In this study we investigated whether root colonization of tomato （Solanum lycopersicum） infected by Trichoderma harzianum leads to alterations in the biosynthesis of secondary plant metabolites including phytohormones and osmolyte proline under drought stress. Exposure of tomato to drought caused a drastic decline in plant growth and physiological parameters. Tomato inoculated with T. harzianum showed increased root and shoot growth and chlorophyll pigments as compared to uninoculated controls as well as drought stressed plants. Proline and total soluble protein content was increased in plants inoculated with T. harzianum under both normal as well as drought conditions. An obvious increase in phenol and flavonoid content was observed due to T. haczianum. In addition, T. hat-zianum inoculated plants maintained higher levels of growth regulators indole acetic acid, indole butyric acid, and gibberellic acid under drought stress. Improved secondary metabolites which play an important role in plant stress tolerance by T. hat-zianum may have coordinately worked for bringing the growth regulation by protecting membranes from reactive oxygen species （ROS） and enhance plant growth through accessing more nutrients by root system.

Seroconversion of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C among Hemodialysis Patients,Baghdad,2015

Hepatitis C&B still the major problem in hemodialysis patients and the challenge continues in dialysis centers to prevent spread among patients and workers,the worldwide reported incidence of anti-HC antibody in dialysis center was range from 10.5%-24% yearly and the prevalence range 5-85%.Also,HBs-antigen had the same problem but with less incidence and prevalence.For the purpose of evaluating the seroprevalence and seroconversion of anti-HC antibody and HBs-antigen in Haemodialysis centers at Baghdad required action a retrospective incidence study from Nov.2015 to Jan.2016 on maintenance HD patients at hemodialysis centers in Al-kindi,Al-Karama and Baghdad Hospitals.The data obtained from patients records of hospitals and we relied on laboratory test results for ELISA to determine the seroconversion and seroprevalence of anti-HC-antibody and HBs-Antigen.The study found the total prevalence of seropositive anti-HCV antibody in three centers were 251(28%),the seropositive patients of HBs-Ag were 14(2%)While the total seroconversion was 196(21%)anti-HCV antibody and for HBs-Ag 4(0.4%);so there was serious risk of nosocomial infection particularly for hepatitis C in the hemodialysis centers in Baghdad and AL-kindi while the problem with HBV was under control at same time The differences of seroconversion and seroprevalence of anti-HC antibody and HBs-antigen between the hospitals in the study may indicate to the level of infection control was applied in hospital.

Preparation and Characterization of Poly(β-Amino Ester) Capsules for Slow Release of Bioactive Material

Network structures from poly(β-amino ester) (PAE) were synthesized for applying as drug delivery matrix via a simplified addition polymerization method. It can hold an active organic compound (drug) that has an effect as antitumor activity in order to control its release. PAE was prepared from piperazine and 1,4-butandiol diacrylate with different molar ratios. The active compound was mixed with the prepared polymer while warming for 15 minutes to obtain the capsule product. The resulting polymer structures and the surface morphology of the PAE capsules before and after encapsulation with the active drug were characterized by FT-IR and SEM, respectively. Swelling and degradation behavior of PAE were studied. The characterization showed that the obtained network structure of PAE depends on the molar ratio between the reactants. The optimum ratio of the reactants was found to be 1:1. Therefore, stable and white product as well as good holding capability for drug produced. The SEM studies illustrate good dispersion and holding properties of the drug into the network structure of the prepared polymer. In vitro, the release results of the drug from the PAE capsules indicated that the capsules were able to give sustained release of drug in DMF up to 10 days at 25°C.

Efficacy of <i>Moringa oleifera</i>Leaf Supplementation for Enhanced Growth Performance, Haematology and Serum Biochemistry of Rabbits

The present work aimed to define the antioxidant effect of addition graded levels (0 mg (T0), 500 mg (T1), 1000 mg (T2) /Kg diet) of dried M. oleifera leaves (DMOL) during the experimental period for 56 days duration on the productive, hematology and some serum biochemical parameters of fifty-one growing rabbits. The results indicated that the DMOL contents of chlorophyll a, b, vitamin c, vitamin E, total flavonoids, total polyphenols, condensed tannins and phytic acid were (1.09 mg/g DW), (0.34 mg/g DW), (0.95 mg/g), (0.75 mg/g), (5.06 mg/g), (2.32%), (1.72%) and (0.98%), respectively. The result of the final live weight, average daily weight gain (ADWG) and average daily dry matter intake increased significantly with increasing levels of DMOL in diets. Also, the improvement in feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly high among the two levels of (DMOL). The serum glucose and urea nitrogen levels significantly decreased as DMOL levels increased. Moreover, there were a significant increase (P P P p > 0.05) different among treatments. On the contrary, significantly (P P P > 0.05) to the values of group T1. There was a significant (P < 0.05) effect of DMOL supplementation on the percent of carcass, liver and total edible parts of rabbits across treatments, whereas, treatments T2 and T1 recorded better results than T0. Under the condition of the present study, the results suggest that DMOL supplementation up to 1000 g/Kg diet might improve performance, bacterial community, antioxidant, biochemical parameters and blood constituents of rabbits.

Background: Justicia adhatoda and Ocimum tenuiflorum, locally known as bashok and tulsi, are two ethnomedicinally important herbs that have been using as dietary supplements for several therapeutic applications. This study evaluated the combined effect of both the herbs as an antioxidative and antihyperlipidemic agent.Methods: Antihyperlipidemic effect was assessed in a high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic model in Wistar albino rats. The rats were treated orally with extracts of bashok(J adhatoda, 200 mg/kg bw), tulshi(O tenuiflorum, 200 mg/kg bw), and a combination of bashok and tulshi(50:50), as well as with a reference drug, atorvastatin(10 mg/kg/day), with or without high-fat diet for 14 days. The antioxidative effect was studied using established in vitro models. The studies were supported by experimentally testing the effects of the extracts on membrane stabilization and inhibition of protein denaturation.Results: The results showed that the serum lipid profile was significantly decreased in the different treatment groups, with bashok having the greatest effect. Body weights, total serum protein, LDH, and relative liver and adipose tissue weights were markedly restored towards baseline values, the lowest atherogenic index being achieved with the combined extract. The combination treatment significantly enhanced total phenolic content and antioxidative capacity and greatly potentiated membrane stabilization, but inhibition of protein denaturation was not significantly affected.Conclusion: The data demonstrate that a combination of Justicia adhatoda and Ocimum tenuiflorum could be developed as a food supplement with antioxidative and antihyperlipidemic benefits.

The study was sought to enhance the synthesis of thermal stableβ-cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase(β-CGTase)using potato wastewater as a low-cost medium and assess the degree to which it is efficient for industrial production ofβ-cyclodextrin(β-CD)from raw potato starch.Thermophilic bacteria producingβ-CGTase was isolated from Saudi Arabia and the promising strain was identified as Bacillus licheniformis using phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene.Alginate-encapsulated cultures exhibited twice-fold ofβ-CGTase production more than free cells.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)of polymeric capsules indicated the potential for a longer shelf-life,which promotes the restoration of activity in bacterial cells across semi-continuous fermentation ofβ-CGTase production for 252 h.The optimal conditions forβ-CGTase synthesis using potato wastewater medium were at 36 h,pH of 8.0,and 50°C with 0.4%potato starch and 0.6%yeast extract as carbon and nitrogen sources,respectively.The purified enzyme showed a specific activity of 63.90 U/mg with a molecular weight of∼84.6 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE analysis.The high enzyme activity was observed up to 60°C,and complete stability was achieved at 75°C.High levels of activity and stability were shown at pH 8.0,and the pH range from 7.0–10.0,respectively.The enzyme has an appreciable affinity for raw potato starch with a Km of 5.7×10−6 M and a Vmax of 87.71μmoL/mL/min.β-CD production was effective against 25 U/g of raw potato starch.The outcomes demonstrated its feasibility to develop a fermentation process by integrating the cost-effective production ofβ-CGTase having distinctive properties forβ-CD production with ecofriendly utilization of potato wastewater.

Prediction of Shear Wave Velocity in Underground Layers Using SASW and Artificial Neural Networks

This research aims at improving the methods of prediction of shear wave velocity in underground layers. We propose and showcase our methodology using a case study on the Mashhad plain in north eastern part of Iran. Geotechnical investigations had previously reported nine measurements of the SASW (Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves) method over this field and above wells which have DHT (Down Hole Test) result. Since SASW utilizes an analytical formula (which suffers from some simplicities and noise) for evaluating shear wave velocity, we use the results of SASW in a trained artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the un- known nonlinear relationships between SASW results and those obtained by the method of DHT (treated here as real values). Our results show that an appropriately trained neural network can reliably predict the shear wave velocity between wells accurately.

Leech therapy indications: a scoping review

After the developments of modern medicine, leeches were not used as before, but in the late nineteenth century, leeches were still being used in many countries around the world. Until now, leeches have been used to treat a wide range of diseases. The present study, is a scoping review of the evidence of the indication of leech therapy. The results of this study are based on English articles and dissertations published in databases from 2000 up to July 10, 2017. The results showed that leech therapy could be used in different conditions including venous congestion in plastic and reconstructive surgery, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular diseases due to blood coagulation disorders, migraine headache, skin disorders, diabetic foot ulcers, macroglossia, priapism, cancer complications, and wounds. More researches are needed in wider areas with more precise methodologies to ensure the potential therapeutic effects of leech therapy.

The development of artificial intelligence(AI)has increased dramatically in the last 20 years,with clinical applications progressively being explored for most of the medical specialties.The field of gastroenterology and hepatology,substantially reliant on vast amounts of imaging studies,is not an exception.The clinical applications of AI systems in this field include the identification of premalignant or malignant lesions(e.g.,identification of dysplasia or esophageal adenocarcinoma in Barrett’s esophagus,pancreatic malignancies),detection of lesions(e.g.,polyp identification and classification,small-bowel bleeding lesion on capsule endoscopy,pancreatic cystic lesions),development of objective scoring systems for risk stratification,predicting disease prognosis or treatment response[e.g.,determining survival in patients post-resection of hepatocellular carcinoma),determining which patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)will benefit from biologic therapy],or evaluation of metrics such as bowel preparation score or quality of endoscopic examination.The objective of this comprehensive review is to analyze the available AI-related studies pertaining to the entirety of the gastrointestinal tract,including the upper,middle and lower tracts;IBD;the hepatobiliary system;and the pancreas,discussing the findings and clinical applications,as well as outlining the current limitations and future directions in this field.

Chemically Modified <i>Cornulaca monacantha</i>Biomass for Bioadsorption of Hg (II) from Contaminated Water: Adsorption Mechanism

Cornulaca monacantha (CM) a desert plant has been utilized as adsorbent material for the removal of Hg (II) ions from contaminated water after treatment with acrylamide in alkaline medium to form carbamoylethylated Cornulaca monacantha (CECM). Three levels of CECM having different nitrogen content were prepared. The CECM samples were characterized by estimating the nitrogen content. The ability of CECM to adsorb Hg (II) was investigated by using batch adsorption procedure. The data of the adsorption isotherm was tested by the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models. The removal of Hg (II) onto CECM particles could be well described by the pseudo-second order model. The adsorption rate of mercury was affected by the initial Hg (II) ion concentration, initial pH, adsorbent concentration and agitation time as well as extent of modification. The adsorption experiments indicated that the CECM particles have great potential for the removal of Hg (II) from contaminated water. The maximum adsorption capacity, Qmax of the CECM towards Hg (II) ions was found to be 384.6 mg/g at 30?C. Similarly, the Freundlich constant, n was found to be 2.03 at 30°C.
