Erectile function after WSTll vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy for low-risk prostate cancer treatment

Vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy(VTP)using padeliporfin is currently assessed as a low-risk prostate cancer(LRPCa)*** aim of this study was to assess erectile function outcomes of VTP for LRPCa *** prospectively included all patients treated with VTP for *** primary endpoint was the post-treatment International Index of Erectile Function score(IIEF5 score)evolution(at 6 months,12 months,and then every year for 5 years).Secondary endpoints were the need of erectile dysfunction(ED)treatment and its ***-two men were *** median follow-up was 68(range:6-89)*** was a 3-point significant decrease in the median IIEF5 score between baseline and at 6 months post-VTP(23[range:1-25]vs 20[range:1-25],P=0.005).There was a 1-point decrease at 1 year and 2 years post-VTP compared to baseline(22[range:2-25]and 22[range:0-25],P<0.005).There was no significant difference at 3,4,and 5 years compared to ***-seven(32.9%)patients received ED treatment:phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors(PDEI5;n=18),intracavernous injections(ICI;n=9),and intra-urethral gel(n=1).The median IIEF5 score statistically significantly increased after ED treatment(7[range:0-24]vs 21[range:1-25],P<0.001).ED treatment was efficient for 75%of the *** was no statistically significant difference between IIEF5 score at baseline and after ED treatment(P=0.443).Forty-six patients were totally potent before VTP and among them,13 needed ED treatment post-VTP with a success rate of 69.2%.VTP induced minimal changes in erectile function with a 3-point and a 1-point reduction in the IIEF5 score at 6 months and at 1 year,*** required,ED treatment was efficient.

Diethylstilbestrol （DES） has a direct cellular mechanism inhibition on prostate cancer. Its action is independent from the oestrogen receptors and is preserved after a first-line hormonal therapy. We aimed to identify proteins involved in the direct cellular inhibition effects of DES on prostate cancer. We used a clonogenic assay to establish the median lethal concentration of DES on 22RV1 cells. 22RV1 cells were exposed to standard and DES-enriched medium. After extraction, protein expression levels were obtained by two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis （2D-DIGE） and isotope labelling tags for relative and absolute quantification （iTRAQ）. Proteins of interest were analysed by quantitative RT-PCR and western blotting. The differentially regulated proteins （P〈0.01） were interrogated against a global molecular network based on the ingenuity knowledge base. The 2D-DIGE analyses revealed DES-induced expression changes for 14 proteins （〉 1.3 fold; P〈0.05）. The iTRAQ analyses allowed the identification of 895 proteins. Among these proteins, 65 had a modified expression due to DES exposure （i.e., 23 overexpressed and 42 underexpressed）. Most of these proteins were implicated in apoptosis and redox processes and had a predicted mitochondrial expression. Additionally, ingenuity pathway analysis placed the OAT and HSBP1 genes at the centre of a highly significant network. RT-PCR confirmed the overexpression of OAT （P=0.006） and HSPB1 （P=0.046）.

Rescue effects of aqueous seed extracts of Foeniculum vulgare and Carum carvi against cadmium-induced hepatic, renal and gonadal damage in female albino rats

Objective: To investigate the protective effects of aqueous seed extracts of fennel"Foeniculum vulgare"(FVE) and caraway "Carum carvi"(CCE) on liver, kidney and reproductive organs in female rats against cadmium chloride(CC) ***: A total of 36 adult female rats were divided into six groups, six in each *** group(fed normal diet), CC-treated group(50 mg CC/kg diet), CCE-treated group(150 mg CCE/kg diet), CCE + CC group, FVE(150 mg/kg diet) and FVE + CC. One month later, all rats were sacrificed and all samples were collected at proestrus ***: The toxic effects of CC were confirmed biochemically by significant increase of serum concentration of liver enzymes(P < 0.05), and creatinine(P < 0.001). Moreover,CC increased significantly the serum level of malondialdehyde(MDA) and decreased the total antioxidant capacity(TAC)(P < 0.001). In addition, serum concentrations of estrogen, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone(LH)were significantly decreased(P < 0.01). Histopathologically, CC-treated group revealed marked pathological changes in renal, hepatic, ovarian and uterine tissues. All toxic findings observed in liver and kidney with CC treatment were found to be ameliorated markedly after co-treatments with FVE or CCE. Furthermore, co-treatment of FVE with CC improved significantly all studied reproductive parameters(P < 0.01).Conclusions: Both FVE and CCE could be used as efficient treatments for liver and kidney against CC intoxication. Moreover, FVE could be utilized as a potent treatment to protect and improve female fertility from cadmium intoxication.

The impulse response method is a frequently used method to calculate ship seakeeping *** this paper,the restoring and Froude-Krylov calculation is conducted with constant evaluation of panel pressures as well as Gauss quadrature and an analytical *** applied panel grid is coarsened by an adaptive algorithm which is based on a normal vector *** comparison of methods is based on grid convergence studies which are followed by a verification of forces with computational fluid dynamics(CFD)results on the fixed duisburg test case in *** with experimental results in head,oblique and following waves show that all integration methods are *** exact integration is numerically sensitive in some *** quadrature is highly accurate;however,the additional effort is not beneficial since the geometrical accuracy has-stronger influence on the force amplitudes than the integration *** grid coarsening reduces the simulation time and is accurate up to a level,where the panel length comes close the *** added resistance at the investigated Froude number of 0.05 shows higher uncertainty levels,this applies to the results of both the numerical methods and model tests.

This paper presents recent developments towards efficient and reliable methods for roll damping estimation based on numerical simulations as well as model tests using the harmonic excited roll motion(HERM)technique.A newly designed automatic roll damping estimation procedure shows the advantage of a just-in-time post processing of experimental measurement ***-time analysis of the measured roll damping values permits a considerable shortening of the test ***,a large number of investigations can be carried out with relatively manageable effort in order to determine the roll damping behavior of different keel configurations or at operating conditions,e.g.,different sized keels or Froude *** addition,HERM measurement method is applied to investigate the memory *** this purpose,different excitation schemes are introduced and the results are ***,a study of the scale effect on the roll damping properties is conducted,in which experimental and numerical investigations are performed for two scales of a ship ***,a method is developed that significantly reduces the effort of Reynolds average Navier-Stokes(RANS)-based simulations of roll *** reduction of simulation time is achieved by introducing an artificial *** obtained results show that the developed method is very well applicable for numerical as well as in experimental *** the model tests using HERM technique,the model is free and the rudder is used to keep the straight-ahead *** analysis of the numerical and experimental results shows that the influence of the rudder induced force and moment during HERM tests is not negligible and the contribution of the rudder must be taken into account by estimating the roll ***,a new concept is developed to investigate the parametric roll behavior of ships,which allows neglecting the consideration of the complex modelling of free surface waves in the *** the RAN

Field and reverse field solitons in waveoperator nonlinear Schrödinger equation with space-time reverse: Modulation instability

The wave-operator nonlinear Schrödinger equation was introduced in the ***,nonlocal space-time reverse complex field equations were also recently *** in this area were focused on employing the inverse scattering method and Darboux ***,we present an approach to find the solutions of the wave-operator nonlinear Schrödinger equation with space and time reverse(W-O-NLSE-STR).It is based on implementing the unified method together with introducing a conventional formulation of the ***,a field and a reverse field may be ***,for deriving the solutions of W-O-NLSE-STR,it is evident to distinguish two cases(when the field and its reverse are interactive or not-interactive).In the non-interactive and interactive cases,exact and approximate solutions are *** both cases,the solutions are evaluated numerically and they are displayed *** is observed that the field exhibits solitons propagating essentially(or mainly)on the negative space variable,while those of the reverse field propagate on the other side(or vice versa).These results are completely novel,and we think that it is an essential behavior that characterizes a complex field system with *** the other hand,they may exhibit right and left cable patterns(or vice versa).It is found that the solutions of the field and its reverse exhibit self-phase modulation by solitary *** the interactive case,the pulses of the field and its reverse propagate in the whole *** analysis of modulation stability shows that,when the field is stable,its reverse is unstable or both are *** holds whenever the polarization of the medium is selfdefocusing.

A ROUGH SET APPROACH TO FEATURE SELECTION BASED ON SCATTER SEARCH METAHEURISTIC

Rough set theory is an effective method to feature selection, which has recently fascinated many researchers. The essence of rough set approach to feature selection is to find a subset of the original features. It is, however, an NP-hard problem finding a minimal subset of the features, and it is necessary to investigate effective and efficient heuristic algorithms. This paper presents a novel rough set approach to feature selection based on scatter search metaheuristic. The proposed method, called scatter search rough set attribute reduction （SSAR）, is illustrated by 13 well known datasets from UCI machine learning repository. The proposed heuristic strategy is compared with typical attribute reduction methods including genetic algorithm, ant colony, simulated annealing, and Tabu search. Computational results demonstrate that our algorithm can provide efficient solution to find a minimal subset of the features and show promising and competitive performance on the considered datasets.

Finite element modeling assumptions impact on seismic response demands of MRF-buildings

Recent seismic events have raised concerns over the safety and vulnerability of reinforced concrete moment resisting frame ＂RC-MRF＂ buildings. The seismic response of such buildings is greatly dependent on the computational tools used and the inherent assumptions in the modelling process. Thus, it is essential to investigate the sensitivity of the response demands to the corresponding modelling assumption. Many parameters and assumptions are justified to generate effective structural finite element（FE） models of buildings to simulate lateral behaviour and evaluate seismic design demands. As such, the present study focuses on the development of reliable FE models with various levels of refinement. The effects of the FE modelling assumptions on the seismic response demands on the design of buildings are investigated. the predictive ability of a FE model is tied to the accuracy of numerical analysis; a numerical analysis is performed for a series of symmetric buildings in active seismic zones. The results of the seismic response demands are presented in a comparative format to confirm drift and strength limits requirements. A proposed model is formulated based on a simplified modeling approach, where the most refined model is used to calibrate the simplified model.

Evaluation of the 8th AJCC staging system for pathologically versus clinically staged pancreatic adenocarcinoma: A time to revisit a dogma?

Background: The 8 th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer(AJCC) staging system for pancreatic exocrine adenocarcinoma has been released. The current study seeks to assess the 7 th and 8 th editions among patients registered within the surveillance, epidemiology and end results(SEER) ***: SEER database(2010–2013) has been accessed through SEER*Stat program and AJCC 8 th edition stages were reconstructed utilizing the collaborative stage descriptions. Kaplan–Meier analysis of overall survival and pancreatic cancer-specific survival analyses(according to both 7 th and 8 th editions and according to whether pathological or clinical staging were conducted) has been performed. Multivariate analysis of factors affecting pancreatic cancer-specific survival was also conducted through a Cox proportional hazard ***: A total of 18 948 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma were identified in the period from 2010–2013. Pancreatic cancer-specific survival among pathologically staged patients and according to the 8 th edition showed significant differences for all pair wise comparisons among different stages(P < 0.0001) except for the comparison between stage IA and stage IB(P = 0.307) and the comparison between stage IB and stage IIA(P = 0.116). Moreover, P value for stage IA vs IIA was 0.014; while pancreatic cancer-specific survival according to the 7 th edition among pathologically staged patients showed significant differences for all pair wise comparisons among different stages(P < 0.0001) except for the comparison between IA and IB(P = 0.072), the comparison between stage IIA and stage IIB(P = 0.065), the comparison between stage IIA and stage Ⅲ(P = 0.059) and the comparison between IIB and Ⅲ(P = 0.595).Among clinically staged patients(i.e. those who did not undergo initial radical surgery), the prognostic performance of both 7 th and 8 th stages for both overall survival and pancreatic cancer-specific survival was ***: Th
