Bitter gourd extract improves glucose homeostasis and lipid profile via enhancing insulin signaling in the liver and skeletal muscles of diabetic rats

Objective:To investigate the modulatory effects of bitter gourd extract on the insulin signaling pathway in the liver and skeletal muscle tissues of diabetic ***:The ethanolic extract of bitter gourd was prepared and its contents of total polyphenols and flavonoids were assayed.A neonatal streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model was established and the diabetic rats were assigned into different groups and were treated with different doses of bitter gourd extract(100,200,400,or 600 mg/kg)or with glibenclamide(0.1 mg/kg)for 30 *** blood glucose,insulin,and lipid profile were evaluated and the insulin signaling pathway in the liver and skeletal muscle of rats was *** correlations between homeostasis model assessment(HOMA)and the components of insulin signaling pathway were also ***:Different doses of bitter gourd extract significantly ameliorated fasting blood glucose level and HOMA index for insulin ***,bitter gourd extract increased serum insulin and improved disrupted serum lipid *** levels of insulin receptor substrate-1(IRS-1),p-insulin receptorβ(p-IR-β),protein kinase C(PKC),GLUT2,and GLUT4 were improved by treatment with bitter gourd *** best results were obtained with 400 mg/kg dose of the extract,the effect of which was equivalent to that of *** in the bitter gourd treated rats was negatively correlated with p-IR-β,IRS-1 and PKC in hepatic and skeletal *** was also negatively correlated with skeletal muscle ***:Bitter gourd extract improves glucose homeostasis and lipid profile in diabetic rats via enhancement of insulin secretion and ***,bitter gourd can be used as a potential pharmacological agent for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Ligamentotaxis versus Open Reduction and Internal Fixation for Distal Radius Intra-Articular Fractures

Objectives: This study compared the clinical and radiological outcomes of two different methods for the treatment of distal radial intra-articular fractures. Patients and Methods: Forty-six patients with distal radius intra-arti-cular fractures were divided into two groups. Group I included 24 patients with type C fracture treated by external fixator augmented by percutaneous K-wires. Group II included 22 patients with type C fracture treated by volar locked distal radial plate augmented by K-wires. Two patients had complex injuries necessitating double plating (sandwich). All patients were evaluated clinically by Mayo Wrist Score and radiologically by Sarmiento’s radiological score. Results: Both groups reported good personal satisfaction according to Mayo Wrist Score, and the results were not statistically different between the two groups. In Group I, 19 patients (79.2%) had excellent radiological outcome and five patients (20.9%) had good radiological outcome according to Sarmiento’s radiological score. In Group II, 20 patients (90.9%) had excellent outcome, and two (9.1%) had good radiological outcome;there was no or insignificant deformity. Conclusions: Complex distal radial fractures can be treated either by external fixation (ligamentotaxis) or by locked pre-contoured plating. The clinical outcome of plating and external fixator in our study did not show any statistically significant difference. The radiological outcome had no correlation with the clinical outcome.

Mobile Based IoT Solution for Helping Visual Impairment Users

Blind people have many tasks to do in their lives. However, blindness generates challenges for them to perform their tasks. Many blind persons use a traditional stick to move around and to perform their tasks. But the obstacles are not detected in traditional stick, it is ineffective for visually impaired people. The blind person has no idea what kind of objects or obstacles are in front of him/her. The blind person has no idea what size the object is or how far away he or she is from it. It is difficult for a blind person to get around. To assist people with vision impairment by making many of their daily tasks simple, comfortable, and organized, they will be able to recognize anything (an obstacle for blind people). A smart stick with mobile application can be used. One of the solutions is a mobile-based Internet of Things solution, which is a stick intended to assist visually impaired people to navigate more easily. It enables blindness and low vision people to navigate and carry out their daily tasks with ease and comfort. A technologically advanced blind stick that enables visually impaired people to move with ease. This paper proposes a system of software and hardware that helps visually impairment people to find their ways in an easy and comfortable way. The proposed system uses smart stick and mobile application to help blind and visually impaired people to identify objects (such as walls, tables, vehicles, people, etc.) in their ways, this can enable them to avoid these objects. In addition, as a result, the system will notify the user through sound from the smartphone. Finally, if he/she gets lost, he will be able to send an SMS with his/her GPS location.

Entropy and Entanglement of Moving Two Atoms in a Squeezed Field via Four-Photon Process

In this paper, the entanglement between two atoms and squeezed field via four photon process is investigated. The dynamical behavior of the entanglement between two atoms and a squeezed field is analyzed. In particular, the effects of the atomic motion, the initial atomic state and the field squeezing are examined. A high amount of entanglement is generated by increasing the field squeezing. Furthermore, we show that a sudden death and sudden birth emerge when the moving atoms are initially prepared in the excited state.

Background:We aimed to characterize the protective effects and the molecular mechanisms of action of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product(NTK)in response to a mastitis *** mid-lactation multiparous Holstein cows(n=9/group)were fed the control diet(CON)or CON supplemented with 19 g/d NTK for 45 d(phase 1,P1)and then infected in the right rear quarter with 2500 CFU of Streptococcus uberis(phase 2,P2).After 36-h,mammary gland and liver biopsies were collected and antibiotic treatment started until the end of P2(9 d post challenge).Cows were then followed until day 75(phase 3,P3).Milk yield(MY)and dry matter intake(DMI)were recorded *** samples for somatic cell score were collected,and rectal and udder temperature,heart and respiration rate were recorded during the challenge period(P2)together with blood samples for metabolite and immune function *** were analyzed by phase using the PROC MIXED procedure in *** were used for transcriptomic analysis via RNA-sequencing,followed by pathway ***:DMI and MY were not affected by diet in P1,but an interaction with time was recorded in P2 indicating a better recovery from the challenge in NTK compared with *** reduced rectal temperature,somatic cell score,and temperature of the infected quarter during the *** data supported these findings,as NTK supplementation upregulated mammary genes related to immune cell antibacterial function(e.g.,CATHL4,NOS2),epithelial tissue protection(***17C),and anti-inflammatory activity(e.g.,ATF3,BAG3,IER3,G-CSF,GRO1,ZFAND2A).Pathway analysis indicated upregulation of tumor necrosis factorα,heat shock protein response,and p21 related pathways in the response to mastitis in NTK *** pathways for detoxification and cytoprotection functions along with the tight junction pathway were also upregulated in NTK-fed ***:Overall,results highlighted molecular networks involved in the protective effect

Proton-Proton Collisions in View of Thermo-Statistical Approach

The data of charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions extracted from Durham particle data group at energy ranges √s = 6.3 - 17 GeV and at 0.9 - 7 TeV are investigated in the framework of Tsallis thermo-statistics and the Vlasov time dynamics. The analysis can describe the experimental data well all-over the considered energies and rapidity intervals. The variation of the collision parameters (chemical potential, entropy index and the time of evolution) is studied and discussed as a function of the final state temperature. According to the obtained result, a scenario, and a script of the time evolution for the particle production is simulated by the pp collision.

Interaction of ²⁸Si with Emulsion Nuclei at 4.5 AGeV/c in View of Thermo-Statistical Approach

In this work, we study some changes of nuclear matter in the interactions of 28Si with emulsion nuclei at 4.5 AGeV/c. From the experimental quantities investigated using Tsallis’ statistics, we deduced the temperature, entropy density and non-equilibrium factor of the nuclear medium. These obtained parameters were used to reveal variations in the nuclear matter at the stated interaction energy. The results that came up from this study were compared with their corresponding results obtained from other heavy ion collision experiments at wide energy range.

Signs of Phase Transition in High Energy Proton-Proton Collisions

The present work aims to study the possible states of matter and the location of phase boundaries between hadronic gas and the quark-gluon plasma QGP. The boundary at the hadron freeze-out is also considered. Proton-proton collisions at a wide range of center of mass energies are used to examine the phase transition (entropy-temperature) diagram. Local thermodynamic equilibrium is assumed at different intervals of rapidity space. The entropy of the system is expressed in terms of the multiplicity of hadron production in each interval. However, the local temperature is estimated using the average transverse momentum. The values of the critical temperatures are found at the boundaries of the phases with a quite clear description of the states.

Effect of Mixed Orchards on Population Dynamics and Dominant on Tephritid Flies in the New Valley Governorate, Egypt

Peach Fruit Fly （PFF） Bactrocera zonata （Saunders） and of the Mediterranean fruit fly （MFF） Ceratitis capitata （Wiedemann） are the most of dominant and destructive key pests in fruit orchards in different agro-ecosystem in Egypt. Population fluctuations of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata （Wiedemann） and the peach fly Bactrocera zonata （Saunders） was monitored with lure traps collections in three provinces in the New Valley oases, Western Desert, Egypt. Results showed marked temporal differences in peak trap catches of the two flies in the selected sites all over the entire studied areas. One annual peak of C. capitata was recorded during both October and February and coincided with the ripening period of citrus trees in Kharga oases. However, two annual peaks were recorded during June and September in Bodkholow province and coincided with the ripening period of apple and mango. On the other hand, two annual peaks of B. zonata were recorded in Kharga oases throughout May and September and coincided with the ripening periods of apricot, mango and guava. One annual peak only was recorded round up of September and/or October in both of Moot and Bodkholow in Dakhla oases and coincided with the ripening period of mango, guava and citrus. Occurrence of C. capitata was very limited in comparison with B. zonata. Population fluctuations of the two pests in the studied sites were significantly different. The ability of the used traps in capturing both of C. capitata and B. zonata indicated that the yellow sticky trap was more effective in capturing C. capitata. However, abdel-Kawi trap was significantly efficient in trapping B. zonata. Occurrence of B. zontata in high numbers all over the study period than C. capitata is considered as a good proof that this invading fly may be consider a vigor competitive tephritid fly to the native fly C. capitata.
