Groundwater Conditions and the Geoenvironmental Impacts of the Recent Development in the south Eastern Part of the Western Desert of Egypt

The area to the southeast of the Western Desert of Egypt has been subjected to considerable development activities over the last few years. The development includes the cultivation of about 2260 km2 of the desert lands “the well-known Toshka Project”. The hydrogeological conditions of the area are subjected to detailed investigation based upon the construction of the water table maps, hydrologeologic cross-sections, pumping tests, aquifer geometry, and recharge-discharge relationship. The study revealed that the Quaternary and the Nubia sediments are the main water bearing layers in the area. The Quaternary aquifer is of limited potential and made of mixed sand with clay deposit ranges in thickness between 5 to 10 m. The Nubia aquifer is the oldest sedimentary formation and the main groundwater resources in the area. It is represented by multilayered of sand and silt exists generally under artesian conditions. It is composed of three water bearing horizons partially separated by two confining horizons and extends in thickness ranges between 70 and 230 meters. The thickness increases away from the high dam lake. The analysis of pumping tests of the aquifer indicated that its potentiality is increasing north of the High Dam Lake (HDL) whereas it decreases in the other direction. This is due to high hydraulic conductivity and aquifer thickness in the area northeast of Khor Toshka and at west of Garf Hussein. The hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer ranges between 12.73 and 0.9 m/day. The review of the changes in groundwater levels in the area showed that there is a drop in ranges between 1 and 14 meters in the last few years indicating that the extraction from the groundwater is much more higher that the replacement rate. Also, the analysis of the fluctuation of water levels of the HDL and the groundwater level indicated that the influence of water on groundwater level in the area is observed only at a distance less than 10 km from the lake shore line. seepage from th

Assessment of heme oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavernous tissues of sildenafil citrate-treated rats

Aim： To assess heine oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavemous tissue of sildenafil citrate-treated rats. Methods： One hundred and ninety-two sprague-Dawley male rats, divided into four equal groups, were investigated. Group 1, the control group, received regular animal chow; group 2 received sildenafil citrate by intragastric tube; group 3 received sildenafil and HO inhibitor （zinc protoporphyrin, ZnPP）; and group 4 received sildenafil and nitric oxide synthase （NOs） inhibitor L-nitroarginine methyl ester （L-NAME）. Twelve rats from each group were killed after 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h of drug administration. Then HO-1 activity, cGMP levels and NOs enzymatic activity in the cavernous tissues were estimated. Results： In cavemous tissue, HO-1 activity, NOs enzymatic activity and cGMP concentration increased significantly in sildenafil-treated rats compared to other groups throughout the experiment. Rats receiving either HO or NOs inhibitors showed a significant decrease in these parameters. HO- 1 cavemous tissue activity and NOs enzymatic activity demonstrated a positive significant correlation with cGMP levels （r = 0.646, r = 0.612 respectively; P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： The actions of PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil citrate in the cavernous tissue are partly mediated through the interdependent relationship between both HO-1 and NOs activities.

Change Detection of Lake Chad Water surface Area Using Remote sensing and satellite Imagery

The Lake Chad located in the west-central Africa in the sahel region at the edge of the sahara experienced severe drought during 1970s and 1980s and overexploitation (unintegrated and unsustainable use), which is a result of variant land uses and water management practices during the last 50 years. This resulted in a decline of the water level in the Lake and surrounding rivers. The present study analyzed satellite images of Lake Chad from Landsat-Mss, Landsat-OLI to investigate the change of the open water surface area during the years of 1973, 1987, 2001, 2013, and 2017. supervised classifications were performed for the land cover analysis. The open water area in 1973 was covering 16,157.34 kmsup>2sup> approximately, and that was 64.6% of the total lake area in the 1960s. As an ultimate result of the extreme drought that the study area witnessed through 1970s-1980s, the open water area has decreased to 1831.44 kmsup>2sup>, i.e. around 11.33%, compared to that in 1973. The dilemma that the study area is suffering from is believed to be a catastrophic complication of the aforementioned drought crisis, which arose as an ultimate result the climate change, global warming, and the unintegrated and unsustainable use of water challenges the study area is still encountering.

A New Navigation Force Model for the Earth’s Albedo and Its Effects on the Orbital Motion of an Artificial satellite

In this paper, we developed a new approach of an analytical model to calculate the radial and transversal components of the acceleration due to the effects of Earth’s albedo. Its effects on the orbital motion of an artificial satellite are introduced. It is assumed that the satellite’s horizon is illuminated and the sun lies on the equator. The magnitudes of those components are obtained and their effects on orbital evolution have been tested for different satellites elements. The perturbations in orbital elements due to Earth’s albedo have been obtained using Lagrange Planetary equation in Gaussian form, in particular the case of LAGEOs satellite, have been found using this new analytical formalism.

Influence of phosphocompost application on phosphorus availability and uptake by maize grown in red soil of Ishigaki Island, Japan

Phospho compost application is important with respect to soil fertility and plant nutrition. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the influence of phospho compost application on P availability and uptake by maize in red soil. The phosphorus applied in the form of phospho compost, as compare to rock phosphate and super phosphate at a rate of 50 and 100 mg P2O5 Kg-1 soil. The application was done as spot and mix application. Results indicate that, spot application of 100 mg P2O5 kg-1 soil as phospho compost (b) registered significantly higher P uptake (2.1 and 5.31 mg·pot-1) and available soil P (19.1 and 21.0 mg·kg-1) as compare to Rock Phosphate alone (0.60 and 0.97 mg·pot-1) and (5.6 and 6.0 mg·kg-1) at 30 and 60 day after sowing, respectively. The probable chelating effect from phospho composting increased the phosphorus use efficiency and resulted into higher relative agronomic efficiency in phospho compost (b) spot application (40%) over mix application (15%). The dry matter yield had positive and significant correlation with available P in soil and P uptake by maize plants at 30 and 60 day after sowing. Results concluded that phospho compost enriched with FYM was most effective in increasing phosphorus availability in red soil and increasing dry matter yield of maize plants.

Development of a simple software Program Used for Evaluation of Plasma Electron Density in LIBs Experiments via spectral Line shape Analysis

A software program has been developed in order to perform a fast and reliable calculation to plasma electron density in laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBs) experiments. This program is based on analyzing the emitted spectral line shape via utilizing facilities of the MatLab7? package to perform this task. This software can perform the following tasks;read the exported data file (*txt-format) from ICCD camera-software, specify the working wavelength of interest, removes the continuum emission component appeared under the line, calculates the spectral line intensity of the line, calculates the spectral shift of the line from the tabulated values, correct against spectral shift jitter at the peak emission, de-convoluting and extracting the different components contributing to the emitted line full width at half of the maximum (FWHM) and finally calculates the plasma electron density. In this article we shall present the results of the test measurement of the plasma electron density utilizing spectral line shape analysis to the emitted Hα-line, si I-line at 288.15 nm and O I-line at 777.2 nm at different camera delay times ranging from 1 to 5 μs.

Assessment of Usual Fruit, Vegetable and Vitamin C Intakes in a sample of Egyptian Children: Pilot study

The objective was to create an Egyptian database on the contributors of fruit and vegetables in the diets of preschool children and to estimate the usual daily intakes of fruits, vegetables and vitamin C. A total of 59 healthy boys and girls aged 2.5 - 6 years attending day care centers in urban Giza governorate completed the study by interviewing their mothers on 6x non-consecutive days using the 24 h dietary recall. Participants were classified according to age, gender and socioeconomic class. Prevalence of daily consumptions of fruits and vegetables amounted to 22% and 54%, respectively of the total children. The daily intakes of fruits and vegetables averaged 117.5 and 56.4 g, respectively. The consumption of different types of fruits and vegetables was unevenly distributed by different personal and social variables. Estimated daily vitamin C supply from the diet was 38 mg per child, which satisfied the respective recommended nutrient intake (RNI) of 30 mg for the first six years of life. However, the diet of 15% of the children covered less than 75% of RNI. Top fruits contributing to vitamin C were oranges, guava, watermelon, pears and grapes. Extra foods such as chipsy was consumed by 81% of the children, contributed 18% to daily vitamin C supply and also 58.6 mg sodium. A multilevel intervention strategy is warranted for promoting daily fruit and vegetable intake and healthy eating in early childhood.

Measurement of Plasma Parameters in Laser-Induced Breakdown spectroscopy Using si-Lines

The electron density and temperature of the laser induced silicon plasma were measured using two different methods. The plasma was produced via the interaction of high peak power Nd-YAG laser at the fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm with a plane solid iron target contain small traces of silicon as an element of minor concentration. The lines from the si I at 288.15 nm and si II-ionic lines at 413.08 and 634.71 nm were utilized to evaluate the plasma parameters. The reference plasma parameters were measured utilizing the Hα-line at 656.27 nm appeared in the spectra under the same condition. The electron density was measured utilizing the stark broadening of the silicon lines and the temperature from the standard saha-Boltzmann plot method. The comparison between electron densities from different silicon lines to that from the Hα-line reveals that the si I-line at 288.15 nm contain some optical thickness while the si II-ionic lines were found to be free from this effect. The measurements were repeated at different delay times between the laser and the camera in the range from 1 - 5 μsec. The electron density was found decreases from 2 × 1018 down to 4 × 1017 cm–3. After correcting the spectral intensity at the si I-line at 288.15 nm, the temperatures evaluated from the different methods were found in an excellent agreement and decreases from 1.25 down to 0.95 eV with delay time.

Drought stress has become more common in recent years as a result of climate change impacts on the production of banana crops and other fruit *** growth and productivity of Musa spp are severely impacted by the gradual degradation of water resources and the erratic distribution pattern of annual precipitation *** aim of the work includes increased drought tolerance in light of water scarcity in the world as a result of the bananas’being gluttonous for water *** investigation was carried out from 2019 to 2020 to study the effect of potassium silicate on morphological growth and biochemical parameters of Musa acuminata L under drought stress by *** a result,drought stress reduced the morphological characteristics such as shoots number,shoot length,roots number,and survival percentage and biochemical characteristics such as chlorophyll a,b,carotenoids,stomatal status,and *** proline content increased in the leaf of *** *** complemented with K2siO3(2 to 6 mM)either individually or in combination with PEG led to an improvement in all morphological and biochemical *** activities of CAT,POD,and PPO enzymes increased significantly compared to ***,the lowest PPO,CAT,and POD activity were ***,K2siO3 treatments under drought stress successfully enhanced the leaf stomatal *** results suggest that K2siO3 can help to maintain plant integrity in the tested cultivar under drought stress.

Correlation between IL28B/TLR4 genetic variants and HCC development with/without DAAs treatment in chronic HCV patients

In Egypt,sofosbuvir(sOF)in combination with Dataclasvir(DCV)is the broadly used DAAs with excellent therapeutic *** study is designed to explore the relation between IL28B/TLR4 genetic variants and each of the followings;HCC development post sOF/DCV treatment,progression to HCC in naı¨ve patients and sOF/DCV therapy outcome.A total of 493 blood samples were collected(controls(n = 70);HCV patients treated with sOF/DCV(n = 252)of whom 65 patients developed HCC,187 patients didn’t develop HCC(125 responders,62 relapsers);naı¨ve HCV patients(n = 171)had early(n = 48),late liver fibrosis(n = 21)and HCC(n = 102)).Both sNPs were genotyped using a TaqMan 50 allelic discrimination *** IL28B rs12979860 sNP,the C allele was significantly correlating with the response rate more than T allele(OR 1.9,95%CI 1.29e2.9,p=0.004),while at TLR4 rs4986791 sNP,no association was found(OR 6.5,95%0.57e75.28,p = 0.09).Both sNPs couldn’t detect the probability for HCC emergence after *** naı¨ve patients,the protective alleles were detected in their lowest frequency in HCC patients(p = 0.1,for rs12979860 and,p = 0.001 for rs4986791).sOF/DCV combination improved sVR rates in HCV genotype 4a infected patients regardless of IL28B genotype,with the best rates in those lacking the T allele.
