Daily variation of radon gas and its short-lived progeny concentration near ground level and estim.tion of aerosol residence tim.

Atm.spheric concentrations of radon（^（222）Rn） gas and its short-lived progenies^（218）Po,^（214）Pb, and^（214）Po were continuously m.nitored every four hours at the ground level in Jeddah city, Kingdom.of Saudi Arabia. The m.asurem.nts were perform.d three tim.s every week, starting from.Novem.er 2014 to October 2015. A m.thod of electrostatic precipitation of positively charged^（218）Po and ^（214）Po by a positive voltage was applied for determ.ning^（222）Rn gas concentration. The short-lived^（222）Rn progeny concentration was determ.ned by using a filter holder connected with the alpha-spectrom.tric technique. The m.teorological param.ters（relative air hum.dity, air tem.erature, and wind speed） were determ.ned during the m.asurem.nts of^（222）Rn and its progeny concentrations.^（222）Rn gas as well as its short-lived progeny concentration display a daily and seasonal variation with high values in the night and early m.rning hours as com.ared to low values at noon and in the afternoon. The observed m.nthly atm.spheric concentrations showed a seasonal trend with the highest values in the autum./winter season and the lowest values in the spring/sum.er season. m.reover, and in parallel with alphaspectrom.tric m.asurem.nts, a single filter-holder was used to collect air sam.les. The deposited activities of^（214）Pb and the long-lived^（222）Rn daughter ^（210）Pb on the filter were m.asured with the gam.a spectrom.tric technique. The m.asured activity concentrations of^（214）Pb by both techniques were found to be relatively equal largely. The highest m.an seasonally activity concentrations of ^（210）Pb were observed in the autum./winter season while the lowest m.an were observed in the spring/sum.er season. The m.an residence tim.（m.T） of aerosol particles in the atm.spheric air could be estim.ted from.the activity ratios of ^（210）Pb/^（214）Pb.

Case-based surveillance m.asles data was defined according to World Health Organization （WHO） guidelines. A total of 511 m.asles cases were studied from.2011 to 2015 in Southern Darfur State, Sudan and 58.1% of cases were confirm.d from.Nyala city. About 43.4% of cases were m.les, 56.6% of cases were fem.le, and 47.7% were children under five years old. Sim.larity, within February to June, the cases increased by 8.0% in children vaccinated through m.asles cam.aign, and 5.3% in children that used child vaccination card and 78.7% in unvaccinated one.

Objective To determ.ne the prevalence of lower urinary tract sym.tom.(LUTS)and their severity population in *** This cross-sectional survey was conducted using a paper-based survey between August and Septem.er in *** study was carried out in the health care centers or hospitals in three different regions of Jordan:North(Irbid and Jarash),m.ddle(Am.an,m.daba,Salt,and Zarqa),and South(Karak and Aqaba).Results To estim.te the prevalence of LUTS,two definitions were used,including the first definition(presence of any LUTS regardless of the degree of severity)and the second definition(presence of any LUTS that occurs half the tim. or m.re).According to the first definition,1038(89.9%)reported LUTS(m.le:47.3%,fem.le:52.7%),while 763(66.1%)reported LUTS according to the second definition(m.le:45.6%,fem.le:54.4%).According to the International Prostate Sym.tom.Score characterization,73.9%had nocturia and 62.9%reported daytim. increased *** LUTS are highly prevalent am.ng the Jordanian population,and m.re than half of them.have nocturia or daytim. increased frequency as m.st frequently reported sym.tom..

Structural, elastic and electronic properties for m.2 XC (m.Ti and Cr, X=Ga and Al) phases from.ab initio calculations

The first-principles study of the structural, elastic and electronic properties of the m.XC phases depending on the type of m.transition m.tal （m.are Ti and Cr） and on X （X are Ga and A1） was reported. The calculations are perform.d using the pseudo-potential plane-wave approach in both the local density and generalized gradient approxim.tions. The elastic constants are calculated using the static finite strain technique. Features such as structural and elastic param.ters, Debye tem. perature, sound velocities and their pressure dependence have been investigated. In agreem.nt with experim.ntal and previous theoretical findings, it is found that the com.ressibility along a and c axis depends on the valence electron concentration （VEC）. Correlations revealing the governing role of the X and m.elem.nts on the m.chinability indices of the m.terial have been exam.ned. The electronic properties have been discussed in term. of chem.cal bonding showing that bonding is due to m.-Cp and m.-Xp hybridizations. m.C bonds are stiffer than m.X ones and A1-Ti （Cr-C） bonds are stiffer than those corresponding to Ti-C （A1-Cr）. It is shown that the stiffness of the m.X and m.C bonds increases with increasing the num.er of VEC.

Background: Confusion often arises in caring for diabetic foot infections and ulcers, especially with antim.crobials;we aim.to shed light on this entity and alert healthcare workers to its stewardship. m.thods: Records were reviewed between February 2016 and Septem.er 2023. Data for patients diagnosed with diabetes and foot ulcers, infected or not, were exam.ned following ICD 9 search term.. Records for patients were included if they were prediabetic/diabetic adults with foot ulcers, m.re than 18 years old, and on antidiabetic treatm.nt. Patients were excluded if they insulin resistant, with norm.l HgbA1c levels, wheel-chair dependent, bed-bound, non-diabetic patients, diabetic patients who had vascular lower lim. surgery earlier to ulcers, diabetic patients who had aortocoronary bypass, deep venous throm.osis within six m.nths, m.lignancy, and severe clinical depression. A m.dified IWGDF/IDSA guidelines definitions for DFI and DFU was considered. Statistical analysis was done using R program.ing. Statistical m.thods were em.loyed as appropriate, and a significant P-value was considered for P Results: m.st characteristics were well balanced between DFI and DFU, on im.ging osteom.elitis and tissue swelling were significantly m.re in DFI. Endovascular radiological procedures showed angiogram. to be considerably m.re in DFI, while angioplasty was m.re in DFU, in addition to sm.king. Bacterem.a was uncom.on, and swab cultures were m.stly polym.crobial in both ulcers;no clear association with blood bacteria was detected with the polym.crobial growth, though few were concordant. Antim.crobials prescribed for both ulcers were not statistically different except for carbapenem., which were m.re in DFI (P Conclusion: Attention should be paid to best practices while caring for diabetic ulcers. These include swab culture interpretations, the use of antim.crobials, and plan m.nagem.nt according to DFI or DFU to utilize either local care or com.ination with antim.crobials.

A m.lti-faceted Case Area Targeted Intervention (CATI) approach em.hasizing the integration of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions and Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) cam.aign was em.loyed to respond to the outbreak of cholera in Garissa County. Drinking water sources in areas heavily im.acted by cholera were system.tically m.pped and tested for m.crobiological quality. The quality assessm.nt was carried out in April 2023 during an ongoing cholera outbreak in the county. A total of 109 sam.les were collected and tested for therm.tolerant coliform. and other in situ param.ters. The finding revealed that m.re than 87% of the sam.les did not m.et the World Health Organization (WHO) standard for therm.tolerant coliform.;and 30% had turbidity values above the recom.ended threshold values. None of the 109 sam.les had any traceable residual chlorine. Following these findings, the county governm.nt im.lem.nted the targeted interventions which resulted in a positive im.act in the fight against cholera. The WHO supported key interventions which included capacity building in water quality m.nitoring and prepositioning of critical WASH com.odities to the cholera affected areas.

Since the epoxide is a strained ring, it readily undergoes addition and hom.polym.rization. The hom.polym.rization is a process catalysed by acids, bases, Lewis acids, t-am.nes as well as by inorganic salts.
