Management of a Second-Trimester Abdominal Pregnancy: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Introduction: The abdominal pregnancy is a rare pathology that can threaten the vital prognosis of the mother. The positive diagnosis is difficult to establish. It is most often made in an acute context, leading to a high fetomaternal morbidity and mortality. Our objective is to recall the diagnostic approach and optimal management of this condition. Case report: We present the case of an abdominal pregnancy at 18 weeks of amenorrhea with partial placental abruption in a 26-year-old patient who presented with abdominal pain in emergency obstetrical department of university hospital center of Agadir. The ultrasound revealed the presence of an evolving abdominal pregnancy. The MRI allowed precisely the localization of the placenta and its relationship with the surrounding organs. A laparotomy revealed the insertion of the placenta on the right adnexa. The right adnexectomy allowed removal of the placenta without incident. Conclusion: Abdominal pregnancy is difficult to diagnose. It is essential to be well informed about the clinical and ultrasonographic semiology of this pregnancy, in order to avoid operative surprises and to ensure the appropriate treatment.

Prevalence of Iron Deficiency Anemia among Moroccan Pregnant Women

Background: Iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women is a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries. Aim: The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia and its associated factors during pregnancy in the south of Morocco. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried in the regional Hospital Center Hassan II (RHC) from April to august 2021 in all the pregnant women coming for consultation in the maternity service. 500 pregnant women were randomly recruited for the study. A complete blood count and serum ferritin was performed in every case. They have been the subjects of a questionnaire containing their background and health data. The analysis of our data was done by the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 software. Results: The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia was 20% with a CI of (44.7% - 53.5%). The most affected age group was 25 to 35 years with a rate of 42.86%. The majority of women had mild anemia (84.61%) followed by moderate anemia (11.54%) and severe anemia (3.85%). 57.14% of the anemic pregnant women were primigravida. The results of serum ferritin made it possible to identify 70% of women deficient, with a dominance of normocytic normochromic anemia. The influence of geographic origin and place of birth was not significant. Conclusion: The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia is more or less low in our study. However, there is a high prevalence of iron deficiency and anemia during pregnancy. Statistically, there was no significant association between iron deficiency anemia and the various parameters studied, such as age, parity, origin and place of birth.

Water stress is a critical environmental adversity that significantly impacts the growth,development,and yield of flax *** this study,flax seeds were cultivated under different water irrigation requirements(WIR)(100%,75%,and 50%)to investigate the effects of exogenously supplied nitric oxide(NO)donor sodium nitroprusside(SNP)as foliar treatments at concentrations of 0.0 mmol/L,0.5 mmol/L,1.0 mmol/L,and 2.0 mmol/*** stress led to a significant decrease in plant growth,photosynthetic pigments,yield components such as oil and total carbohydrate *** also resulted in an increase in leaf H2O2 production,lipid peroxidation levels and activities of enzymatic antioxidants including polyphenol oxidase,superoxide dismutase,and nitrate reductase ***,foliar application of SNP improved photosynthetic pigments and antioxidant defense system which mitigated the negative impact of water stress on growth and yield productivity by reducing oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species *** use of SNP also decreased H_(2)O_(2) accumulation levels,lipid peroxidation levels,and improved membrane *** treatment at concentration of 2 mmol/L showed superior results compared to other concentrations with extremely significant increases observed in yield characteristics such as oil content,total carbohydrate percentages,and unsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids ratio.

Background: The treatment of brain metastases with radiotherapy has shifted to the use of Stereotactic Radio-surgery (SRS). The technical issue of expanding the treatment volume around the Gross Tumor Volume (GTV) is a current debate. Radiotherapy centers use variable GTV-PTV margins, ranging from one to 2 mm. Material and Methods: We performed a dosimetric comparison in plans of twenty patients using three margins: PTV zero, PTV1, and PTV2. We also developed imaginary Peel volumes. These volumes are described as follows: Peel1 = PTV1 − GTV, Peel2 = PTV2 − GTV. Results: Our results showed that the mean PTV volume differed significantly across the different margins (p = 0.000). The V12 of the brain significantly varied as a function of PTV margin (p = 0.000). The target coverage and plan quality indices were not significantly different. The Peel volume dosimetric analysis showed that the mean dose was significantly higher in the nearby normal brain tissue: Peel1 (p = 0.022) and Peel 2 (p = 0.013). Conclusion: According to our dosimetric analysis, expanding the GTV into a PTV by 1 mm margin is more convenient than 2 mm.

Membrane distillation （MD） is a thermal, vapor-driven transportation process through micro porous hydrophobic membranes that is increasingly being applied to seawater and brine desalination processes. Two types of hydrophobic microporous polyethersulfone fiat sheet membranes, namely, annealed polyethersulfone and a polyethersulfone/tetraethoxysilane （PES/TEOS） blend were prepared by a phase inversion process. The membranes were characterized and their performances were investigated using the vacuum membrane distillation of an aqueous NaCI solution. The performances of the prepared membranes were also compared with two commercially available hydrophobic membranes, polyte- trafluorethylene and polyvinylidene fluoride. The influence of operational parameters such as feed temperature （25-65 ℃）, permeate vacuum pressure （200 800 mbar）, feed flow rate （8-22 mL/s） and feed salt concentration （3000 to 35000 mg/L） on the MD permeation flux were investigated for the four membranes. The hydrophobic PES/TEOS membrane had the highest salt rejection （99.7%） and permeate flux （86 kg/（m^2 -h）） at 65 ℃, with a feed of 7000 ppm and a pressure of 200 mbar.

In this work, new composite membranes were successfully prepared via phase inversion technique using polyvinyl chloride(PVC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) as polymers and tetrahydrofuran(THF) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP) as solvents. The prepared membranes have been characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM), and fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The scanning electron microscope results prove that the prepared membranes are smooth and their pores are distributed throughout the whole surface and bulk body of the membrane without any visible cracks. The stress–strain mechanical test showed an excellent mechanical behavior enhanced by the presence of PVP in the prepared membranes. The membranes performance results showed that the salt rejection reached 98% with a high flux. This, in turn, makes the prepared membranes can be applied for sea and brackish water treatment through membrane distillation technology.

BACKGROUND In-hospital cardiac arrest(IHCA)constitutes a significant cause of morbidity and *** data is scarce in the Middle East and Lebanon,we devised this study to shed some light on it to better inform both hospitals and policymakers about the magnitude and quality of IHCA care in *** We analyzed retrospective data from 680 IHCA events at the American University of Beirut Medical Center between July 1,2016 and May 2,*** variables included age and sex,in addition to the comorbidities listed in the Charlson comorbidity *** event variables were day,event location,time from activation to arrival,initial cardiac rhythm,and the total number of IHCA *** also looked at the months and *** considered the return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC)and survival to discharge(StD)to be our outcomes of *** The incidence of IHCA was 6.58 per 1,000 hospital admissions(95%CI:6.09−7.08).Non-shockable rhythms were 90.7%of *** IHCA cases occurred in the closed units(87.9%)(intensive care unit,respiratory care unit,neurology care unit,and cardiology care unit)and on weekdays(76.5%).ROSC followed more than half the IHCA events(56%).However,only 5.4%of IHCA events achieved *** ROSC and StD were higher in cases with a shockable *** outcomes were not significantly different between day,evening,and *** was not significantly different between weekdays and weekends;however,StD was higher in events that happened during weekdays than weekends(6.7%vs.1.9%,P=0.002).CONCLUSIONS The incidence of IHCA was high,and its outcomes were lower compared to other developed *** outcomes were better for patients who had a shockable rhythm and were similar between the time of day and days of the *** findings may help inform hospitals and policymakers about the magnitude and quality of IHCA care in Lebanon.
