Ba.kground:The impa.t of chronic hepa.itis C (CHC) on bone minera. density (BMD) ha. been well studied in a.ults with a.rela.ive pa.city of da.a.in children,especia.ly concerning effect of trea.ment with pegyla.ed interferon (PEG-IfN) plus riba.irin (RV).In the current work,we a.sessed prospectively cha.ges in BMD in children with CHC before,during,a.d a.ter ***:forty-six consecutive children with noncirrhotic genotype 4 CHC were subjected to dua.-energy X-ra. a.sorptiometry a. ba.eline,24 weeks,48 weeks of thera.y a.d 24 weeks a.ter ***,bone minera. content (BMC),a.d Z score of lumba. spine (L2-L4) were *** puberta. sta.e,vira. loa.,liver function tests,serum ca.cium,phosphorus,a.ka.ine phospha.a.e,pa.a.hyroid hormone,a.d liver histopa.hology were a.sessed in a.l included ***:Thirty (65.2%) pa.ients ha. norma. BMD,10 (21.7%) were a. risk for low BMD,a.d 6 (13.1%) ha. low BMD for chronologica. *** with low BMD were significa.tly older (P=0.001),with higher frequency of dela.ed puberty tha. other groups (P=0.002).Ba.eline densitometric pa.a.eters (BMD & BMC) were significa.tly positively correla.ed with pa.ients' a.e,weight,height,body ma.s index a.d hemoglobin level;while they were insignifica.tly correla.ed with ba.a. vira. loa.,histopa.hology a.tivity index a.d fibrosis *** pa.a.eters improved significa.tly on PEG-IfN plus RV trea.ment,this improvement wa. found to be susta.na.le 24 weeks a.ter ***:Low BMD is detecta.le in a.proportion of CHC *** thera.y lea.s to a.susta.na.le increa.e in BMD.
