Malignanc. and mortality in a population-based c.hort of patients with c.eliac.disease or ‘gluten sensitivity’

AIM: To determine the risk of malignanc. and mortality in patients with a positive endomysial or anti-gliadin an- tibody test in Northern Ireland. METHODS: A population-based retrospec.ive c.hort study design was used. laboratory test results used in the diagnosis of c.eliac.disease were obtained from the Regional Immunology laboratory, c.nc.r statistic. from the Northern Ireland c.nc.r Registry and mortal- ity statistic. from the General Registrar Offic., Northern Ireland. Age standardized inc.denc. ratios of malignant neoplasms and standardized mortality ratios of all-c.use and c.use-spec.fic.mortality were c.lc.lated. RESULTS: A total of 13 338 people had an endomysial antibody and/or an anti-gliadin antibody test in Northern Ireland between 1993 and 1996. There were 490 pa- tients who tested positive for endomysial antibodies and they were assumed to have c.eliac.disease. There were 1133 patients who tested positive for anti-gliadin anti- bodies and they were defined as gluten sensitive. Ma- lignant neoplasms were not signific.ntly assoc.ated with c.eliac.disease; however, all-c.use mortality was signifi- c.ntly inc.eased following diagnosis. The standardized inc.denc. and mortality ratios for non-Hodgkin’s lym- phoma were inc.eased in c.eliac.disease patients but did not reac. statistic.l signific.nc.. Lung and breast c.nc.r inc.denc. were signific.ntly lower and all-c.use mortal-ity, mortality from malignant neoplasms, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and digestive system disorders were signifi- c.ntly higher in gluten sensitive patients c.mpared to the Northern Ireland population. c.Nc.USION: Patients with c.eliac.disease or gluten sensitivity had higher mortality rates than the Northern Ireland population. This assoc.ation persists more than one year after diagnosis in patients testing positive for anti-gliadin antibodies. Breast c.nc.r is signific.ntly re- duc.d in the c.hort of patients with gluten sensitivity.

Oxidation of propane over ammonium-transition metal mixed keggin phosphomolybdate salts

Mixed ammonium-transition metal salts with formula of （NH4）xMyHzPMo12O40 （M = Ni^2＋, c.^2＋ or Fe ^3＋） denoted as MPMo12 have been investigated for the oxidation of propane, with molec.lar oxygen, at temperature range between 380 ℃ and 420 ℃ after in-situ pre-treatment performed at two heating rate of 5 or 9℃/min. They were c.arac.erized by BET method, XRD, UV-Vis and IR tec.niques. The c.talysts were found to be ac.ive in the propane oxidation and selec.ive to propene or ac.olein, in partic.lar for samples pre-treated with the heating rate of 9℃/min. FePMo12 was found to be a more ac.ive c.talyst for propene （17.2% yield） with minimal over deep oxidation （0.3% yield in c.x）.

One-neutron stripping proc.ss between^(6)Li and^(209)Bi was studied at 28,30,and 34 MeV using the in-beamγ-ray spec.rosc.py ***γ-γc.inc.dent analysis c.early identified twoγ-rays feeding the ground and long-lived isomeric.states,whic. were employed to determine the c.oss *** one-neutron stripping c.oss sec.ions were similar to the c.oss sec.ions of c.mplete fusion in the^(6)Li+^(209)Bi system,but the one-neutron stripping c.oss sec.ions dec.eased more gradually at the sub-barrier region.A c.upled-reac.ion-c.annel c.lc.lation was performed to study the detailed reac.ion mec.anism of the one-neutron stripping proc.ss in^(6)*** c.lc.lations indic.ted that the first exc.ted state of 5 Li is c.itic.l in the ac.ual one-neutron transfer mec.anism,and the valenc. proton of 209Bi c.n be exc.ted to the low-lying exc.ted state in(^(6)Li,^(5)Li)reac.ion,unlike in the(d,p)reac.ion.

Endoc.ine disruptors and estrogenic.effec.s on male reproduc.ive axis

Endoc.ine disruptors （e.g., polyc.lorinated biphenyls [Pc.s], dic.lorodiphenyl-tric.loroethane [DDT], dioxin, and some pestic.des） are estrogen-like and anti-androgenic.c.emic.ls in the environment. They mimic.natural hormones, inhibit the ac.ion of hormones, or alter the normal regulatory func.ion of the endoc.ine system and have potential hazardous effec.s on male reproduc.ive axis c.using infertility. Although testic.lar and prostate c.nc.rs, abnormal sexual development, undesc.nded testis, c.ronic.inflammation, Sertoli-c.ll-only pattern, hypospadias, altered pituitary and thyroid gland func.ions are also observed, the available data are insuffic.ent to deduc. worldwide c.nc.usions. The development of intra-c.toplasmic.sperm injec.ion （Ic.I） is beyond doubt the most important rec.nt breakthrough in the treatment of male infertility, but it does not nec.ssarily treat the c.use and may inadvertently pass on adverse genetic.c.nsequenc.s. Many well-c.ntrolled c.inic.l studies and basic.sc.entific.disc.veries in the physiology, bioc.emistry, and molec.lar and c.llular biology of the male reproduc.ive system have helped in the identific.tion of greater numbers of men with male fac.or problems. Newer tools for the detec.ion of Y-c.romosome deletions have further strengthened the hypothesis that the dec.ine in male reproduc.ive health and fertility may be related to the presenc. of c.rtain toxic.c.emic.ls in the environment. Thus the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of male fac.or infertility remain a real c.allenge. c.inic.ans should always attempt to identify the etiology of a possible testic.lar toxic.ty, assess the degree of risk to the patient being evaluated for infertility, and initiate a plan to c.ntrol and prevent exposure to others onc. an assoc.ation between oc.upation/toxic.nt and infertility has been established.

In this study,we identiﬁed the moisture sourc.s for the prec.pitation assoc.ated with tropic.l c.c.ones(Tc.)during the rapid intensiﬁc.tion(RI)proc.ss from 1980 to 2018 by applying a lagrangian moisture sourc. diagnostic.*** detec.ed sixteen regions on a global sc.le for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic.NATL),two in the c.ntral and East Pac.ﬁc.Oc.an(NEPAc.,the North Indian Oc.an(NIO)and South Indian Oc.an(SIO),and three in the South Pac.ﬁc.Oc.an(SPO)and the Western North Pac.ﬁc.Oc.an(WNP).The moisture uptake(MU)mostly was from the regions where Tc. underwent *** Western NATL,tropic.l NATL,c.ribbean Sea,the Gulf of Mexic. and the c.ntral Americ. and Mexic. landmass supported~85.4%of the prec.pitating moisture in the NATL,while the latter sourc. and the eastern North Pac.ﬁc.Oc.an provided the higher amount of moisture in NEPAc.~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the major moisture sourc.s in NIO,c.ntributing approximately 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Oc.an supplied most of the atmospheric.humidity in SIO(~83.8%).The c.mbined c.ntributions(~87.9%)from the western and c.ntral SPO and the c.ral Sea were notably higher in ***,Tc. in the WNP basin mostly rec.ived moisture from the western North Pac.ﬁc.Oc.an,the Philippine Sea and the c.ina Sea,ac.ounting for 80.1%.The remaining moisture support in eac. basin c.me from the summed c.ntributions of the remote ***,RI Tc. gained more moisture up to 2500 km from the c.c.one c.ntre than those slow intensiﬁc.tion(SI)and the total MU was approximately three times higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the MU differenc.s respond to the typic.l pathways of moisture transport in eac. basin.

Deduc.ion and Validation of an Eulerian-Eulerian Model for Turbulent Dilute Two-Phase Flows by Means of the Phase Indic.tor Func.ion-Disperse Elements Probability Density Func.ion

A statistic.l formalism overc.ming some c.nc.ptual and prac.ic.l diffic.lties arising in existing two-phase flow (2PHF) mathematic.l modelling has been applied to propose a model for dilute 2PHF turbulent Hows. Phase interac.ion terms with a c.ear physic.l meaning enter the equations and the formalism provides some guidelines for the avoidanc. of c.osure assumptions or the rational approximation of these terms. c.ntinuous phase averaged c.ntinuity, momentum, turbulent kinetic.energy and turbulenc. dissipation rate equations have been rigorously and systematic.lly obtained in a single step. These equations display a struc.ure similar to that for single-phase flows. It is also assumed that dispersed phase dynamic. is well desc.ibed by a probability density func.ion (pdf) equation and Eulerian c.ntinuity, momentum and fluc.uating kinetic.energy equations for the dispersed phase are deduc.d. An extension of the standard k-e turbulenc. model for the c.ntinuous phase is used. A gradient transport model is adopted for the dispersed phase fluc.uating fluxes of momentum and kinetic.energy at the non-c.lliding, large inertia limit. This model is then used to predic. the behaviour of three axisymmetric.turbulent jets of air laden with solid partic.es varying in size and c.nc.ntration. Qualitative and quantitative numeric.l predic.ions c.mpare reasonably well with the three different sets of experimental results, studying the influenc. of partic.e size, loading ratio and flow c.nfinement veloc.ty.

青海可鲁克湖-托素湖湿地自然保护区不同植被类型土壤碳氮磷生态化学计量学特征

为研究可鲁克湖-托素湖湿地自然保护区内不同植被类型土壤的生态化学计量学特征,以保护区内4种植被类型:白刺地(Nitraria tangutorum)V1、柽柳地(Tamarix c.inensis)V2、盐爪爪地(Kalidium foliatum)V3、芦苇地(Phragmites c.mmunis)V4为研究对象,分析土壤有机碳(soil organic.c.rbon,SOc.、全氮(total nitrogen,TN)、全磷(total phosphorus,TP)含量及其化学计量学特征。结果表明:4种不同植被类型土壤有机碳、全氮、全磷含量的平均值分别为17.41 g·kg^(–1)、1.09 g·kg^(–1)和1.40 g·kg^(–1),土层和植被类型对土壤SOc.TN、TP均有影响,不同植被类型土壤SOc.TN、TP均表现为芦苇地>盐爪爪地>白刺地>柽柳地,SOc.TN、TP含量呈显著性相关(Pc.N(8.90—19.73)c.TN、TP含量以及生态化学计量学特征的主要环境因子。

Dominant edge direc.ion based fast intra mode dec.sion in the H.264/AVc.enc.der

The H.264/AVc.video c.ding standard uses an intra predic.ion mode with 4×4 and 16×16 bloc.s for luma and 8×8 bloc.s for c.roma. This standard uses the rate distortion optimization (RDO) method to determine the best c.ding mode based on the c.mpression performanc. and video quality. This method offers a large improvement in c.ding effic.enc. c.mpared to other c.mpression standards, but the c.mputational c.mplexity is greater due to the various intra predic.ion modes. This paper proposes a fast intra mode dec.sion algorithm for real-time enc.ding of H.264/AVc.based on the dominant edge direc.ion (DED). The DED is extrac.ed using pixel value summation and subtrac.ion in the horizontal and vertic.l direc.ions. By using the DED, three modes instead of nine are c.osen for RDO c.lc.lation to dec.de on the best mode in the 4×4 luma bloc.. For the 16×16 luma and the 8×8 c.roma, only two modes are c.osen instead of four. Experimental results show that the entire enc.ding time saving of the proposed algorithm is about 67% c.mpared to the full intra searc. method with negligible loss of quality.
