With the exception of mature erythrocytes, cells within the human hematopoietic system are characterized by the cell surface expression of the pan-leukocyte receptor CD45. Here, we identify a novel subset among mononuclear cord blood cells depleted of lineage commitment markers (Lin) that are devoid of CD45 expression. surprisingly, functional examination of Lin"CD45" cells also lacking cell surface CD34 revealed they were capable of multipotential hematopoietic progenitor capacity. Co-culture with mouse embryonic limb bud cells demonstrated that Lin-CD45-CD34- cells were capable of contributing to cartilage nodules and differentiating into human chondrocytes. BMP-4, a mesodermal factor known to promote chondrogenesis, significantly augmented Lin-CD45-CD34- differentiation into chondrocytes. Moreover, unlike CD34+ human hematopoietic stem cells, Lin-CD45-CD34- cells were unable to proliferate or survive in liquid cultures, whereas single Lin-CD45-CD34- cells were able to chimerize the inner cell mass (IC

Functional near infrared spectrosecopy(NIRs)is a technique that is used for noninvasive measurement of the oxyhemoglobin(HbO_(2))and deoxyhemoglobin(HHb)concentrations in the brain *** the ratio of the concentration of these two agents is correlated with the neuronal activity,ONIRs can be usod for the monitoring and quantifying the cortical *** portability of NIRs makes it a good candidate for studies involving subject's *** NIRs measurements,however,are sensitive to artifacts generated by subject's head *** makes fNIRs signals less effective in such *** this paper,the autoregressive moving average(ARMA)modeling of the NIRs signal is proposed for state-space representation of the signal which is then fed to the Kalman filter for estimating the motionless signal from motion corrupted *** are compared to the autoregressive model(AR)based approach,which has been done previously,and show that the ARMA models outperform AR *** attribute it to the richer structure,containing more terms indeed,of ARMA than *** show that the signal to noise ratio(sNR)is about 2 dB higher for ARMA based method.

Grobner-shirshov Bases for Replicated Algebras

We establish a universal approach to solutions of the word problem in the varieties of di- and tri-algebras. this approach, for example, allows us to apply Grobner-shirshov bases method for Lie algebras to solve the ideal membership problem in free Leibniz algebras （Lie di-algebras）. As another application, we prove an analogue of the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for universal enveloping associative tri-algebra of a Lie tri-algebra （CtD!-algebra）.

slope failures along hill cut road slopes are the major nuisance for commuters and highway planners as they put the human lives at huge risk,coupled with immense monetary *** of these vulnerable cut slopes entails the assessment and estimation of the suitable material strength input parameters to be used in the numerical models to accomplish a holistic stability *** the present study a 60 m high,basaltic and lateritic road cut hill slope in Mahabaleshwar,India,has been considered.A number of samples of both basalt and laterite,in their natural state were tested in the laboratory and the evaluated maximum,minimum and mean strength parameters were employed for the three cases in a distinct element numerical *** Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion has been incorporated in the numerical model for the material as well as the *** numerical investigation offered the factor of safety and insights into the probable deformational mechanism for the three ***,several critical parameters have also been judged from the study viz.,mode of failure,factor of safety,shear strain rate,displacement magnitudes *** result of this analysis shows that the studied section is prone to recurrent failures due to the capping of a substantially thick layer of weaker lateritic material above the high strength basaltic rock *** triggering mechanisms like heavy precipitation and earthquake may also accelerate the slope failure in this *** study also suggests employing instant preventive measures to avert the further risk of damage.

JA but not JA-Ile is the cell-nonautonomous signal activating JA mediated systemic defenses to herbivory in Nicotiana attenuata

the whole-plant activation of defense responses to wounding and herbivory requires systemic signaling in which jasmonates （JAs） play a pivotal role. to examine the nature of the slower cell-nonautonomous as compared to the rapid cell-autonomous signal in mediating systemic defenses in Nicotiana attenuata, reciprocal stem graftingexperiments were used with plants silenced for the JA biosynthetic gene ALLENE OXIDE CYCLAsE （irAOC） or plants transformed to create JA sinks by ectopicalIy expressing Arabidopsis JA-O-methyltransferase （ovJMt）. JA-impaired irAOC plants were defective in the cell-nonautonomous signaling pathway but not in JA transport. Conversely, ovJMt plants abrogated the production of a graft-transmissible JA signal. Both genotypes displayed unaltered cell-autonomous signaling. Defense responses （17-hydroxygeranyllinalool diterpene glycosides, nicotine, and proteinase inhibitors） and metabolite profiles were differently induced in irAOC and ovJMt scions in response to graft-transmissible signals from elicited wild type stocks. the performance of Manduca sexta larvae on the scions of different graft combinations was consistent with the patterns of systemic defense metabolite elicitations. taken together, we conclude that JA and possibly MeJA, but not JA-lle, either directly functions as a long-distance transmissible signal or indirectly interacts with long distance signal（s） to activate systemic defense responses.

tectonic Implications of Paleomagnetic Results From Upper silurian series Along the Hexi Corridor, Gansu, China

Characteristic directions of remanent magnetization of 38 samples from Upper silurian series (Hanxia Formation) along the Hexi Corridor passed fold test at a 99% confidence level. the corresponding paleopole is located at 45.1°N, 5.5°E (A_(95)= 4.7°, κ=25.1), close to the Late Permian pole for this area (41.4°N, 358.6°E; A_(95)= 4.3°, κ=26.6). However, there appears an obvious difference between paleolatitudes for these two stages (6°±). Based on paleomagnetic data, it can be deduced that the Hexi Corridor had probably been the western extension of the North China Block by the time of Late silurian and kept being tectonically mobile compared with the principal parts of the North China Block. In addition, paleomagnetic data reveal that the Hexi Corridor experienced a southward displacement of about 600 km during the Late Paleozoic Era.

A simple constitutive model,called semi-implicit model,for cyclic loading is proposed for steel materials used for structures such as building frames in civil *** constitutive model is implemented in the E-simulator,which is a software package for large-scale seismic response *** constitutive relation is defined in an algorithmic manner based on the piecewise linear combined isotropic-kinematic *** rules are used for the first and subsequent loading states to incorporate characteristics such as yield plateau and Bauschinger effect of rolled mild steel *** optimization method is also presented for parameter identification from the results of cyclic and monotonic loading ***,the proposed model is readily applicable to practical elastoplastic analysis of building *** of the model is demonstrated in an example of a cantilever subjected to various types of cyclic loading.

Effect of Plasma on the Zeta Potential of Cotton Fabrics

In this work, the effect of a low-temperature plasma on the zeta potential of cotton fabric was studied. the silver particle absorption on cotton fabric when modified by a low-temperature plasma was also investigated. the modification consisted of plasma pre functionalization followed by a one-step wet treatment with silver nitrate solution. the process was performed in a low-temperature plasma medium, using a magnetron sputtering device. Oxygen and nitrogen were used as working gases in the system, and the results were compared. After preparing the samples, the zeta potentials of the untreated and plasma-treated cotton under a constant pH value solution were estimated and compared. Also, Fourier transform infrared spec troscopy （FtIR） was used to examine the functional groups of the corresponding samples. the amounts of silver absorption on plasma treated and untreated cotton were examined using the energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） method. the results show that the amount of zeta potential for the nitrogen plasma treated sample is less and the absorption of silver particles by cotton can be increased strongly with nitrogen plasma treatment.

strategies for improving ductility of ordered intermetallics

Ordered intermetallics possess attractive high-temperature properties; however, low ductility and brittle fracture limit their use as engineering materials in many cases. this paper provides a comprehensive review on the recent progress in the development of ductile ordered intermetallics and summarizes the strategies used to improve the tensile ductility of ordered intermetallics, including control of ordered crystal structures,engineering grain-boundary structure and chemistry, eliminating environmental embrittlement, microstructure optimization, control of phase stability, and promoting transformation-/twining-induced plasticity. the basic ideas and related mechanisms underlying these ductilizing strategies are discussed. In addition, a brief mention of the current use of intermetallic alloys for structural and corrosion applications is made.

Features of Rotating stall Cell in a Diagonal Flow Fan (in Case of Mid-loading Rotor)

the structure and behavior of rotating stall cell were experimentally clarified in a diagonal flow fan. the specific-speed of the fan was 1140 （r/min, m^3/min, m）, and the total pressure-rise coefficient at design flow-rate was 0.345. the static pressure on outer casing wall and the total pressure at rotor inlet and outlet were measured using a high response pressure transducer. the measured data were processed by the use of DPLA technique, and the structure and behavior of rotating stall cell were obtained. As a result, the stall cell extent for circumferential and spanwise direction and the pressure distributions inside stall cell were clarified. the details of stall cell propagation were also shown.
