Columnaris (caused by Flavobacterium columnare) is one of the most common bacterial diseases affecting the pond-raised channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) in the southeastern United states of America resulting in annual losses of millions of dollars. As part of our continuing effort to discover environmentally benign compounds for the control of columnaris disease, acyl derivatives of phloroglucinol were synthesized and tested against F. columnare using a rapid bioassay. Among the analogs that were tested, diacyl analogs showed very high antibacterial activity against F. columnare in the laboratory bioassay. Diisovaleryl and diisobutyryl analogs were found to have the strongest activity against F. columnare (isolate ALM-00-173) based on 24-h 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Diisovaleryl and diisobutyryl analogs had IC50 values 0.82 mg/L and 0.80 mg/L, respectively, whereas the drug control florfenicol had an IC50 value of 0.81 mg/L. Diisovaleryl and diisobutyryl analogs also had 24-h relative-to- drug-control IC50 values around 1.0 indicating activities similar to florfenicol, which is included in medicated feed and is one of the current management approach for columnaris.

soil conductivity is responsible for its aggressive behavior to metallic objects either in contact or buried in the ground. Rapid deterioration and eventual rupture of pipelines leading ultimately to crude oil spillages have been of economic as well as environmental concern. Although many factors contribute to soil resistivity, these relationships have hardly been quantitatively expressed. This paper explores the factors affecting soil resistivity firstly by matching the spatial regional distribution with each of the identified factors of influence, including ground elevation soil type, depth to water table and undrained strength. 183 Vertical Electrical sounding VEs with the ABEM sAs 1000, using schlumberger electrode configuration were carried out along a pipeline route to generate resistivity distribution across a linear alignment that traverses three geomorphic sub-environments in the Niger Delta Region. The apparent resistivity values averaged over depths of 3 m and 10 m were plotted against the co-ordinates using surfer-16 and overlaid on Google earth Pro to produce a spatial distribution with enhanced location visibility. The results show that apparent resistivity is influenced by depth to water table with lower values in areas of shallow water table occurrence. Furthermore, it is shown that changes in resistivity below the water table are more due to variation in soil type. Within a soil type above the water table, soil resistivity increases monotonically with depth until the depth of probe extends to a different soil horizon. Results of this study provide guidance as to what ground resistivity to expect in different part of the delta as well as provide valuable information to assess the risk. to assets either as a means of prioritizing maintenance or of improving design for new installations in the Niger Delta Region.

A Validated stability-Indicating UHPLC Method for Determination of Naproxen and Its Related Compounds in Bulk.Drug samples

A simple, rapid, precise, accurate, rugged and robust stability-indicating ultra-fast high performance liquid chromatographic (UHPLC) method has been developed for the estimation of related compounds (imp-A, imp-B, imp-C, imp-D and imp-E) in Naproxen and also the assay of Naproxen from bulk.drug samples. The stability indicating capability of the method was proven by subjecting the samples to stress conditions such as acid, base, oxidation, photolysis and thermal degradation. The efficient chromatographic separation was achieved using mobile phase solution A prepared as buffer solution 10 mM monobasic potassium phosphate pH 4.0 ± 0.05 adjusted with diluted ortho phosphoric acid solution and solution B acetonitrile with linear gradient elution on poroshell 120 EC-C18 shot column (50 mm × 4.6 mm, 2.7 μm) and UV detection at 235 nm at a flow rate 1.0 mL/min, column oven temperature was set to 25?C. The above are all k.own impurities and degradation impurities are well resolved with Naproxen peak.and these are eluted within a 10 min runtime of HPLC. The photo diode array detector was used for peak.homogeneity testing during stress study experiments and the overall mass balance was found to be 99.2% to 100.2% in all stress conditions. The linear calibration range was found to be 0.05 μg/mL to 0.75 μg/mL for related compounds and 50 μg/mL to 150 μg/mL for Naproxen and the accuracy of the method was found to be 91.5% to 98.5% recovery for the related substance method and 95.4% to 97.4% recovery for the assay method. The Naproxen and related compounds were found to be stable up to 48 hours and the method validation data show excellent results for precision, linearity, specificity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation and robustness. The present method can be successfully used for routine QC and stability studies and it will help to reduce the analysis cost, time and effluent load compared to conventional HPLC methods.

This paper explores potential of Remote sensing and Geospatial Information systems as viable tools for data collection, processing, transformation and adjustment of cadastral data discrepancies often noted by geospatial practitioners during rasterization and vectorization of land related data. Necessary datasets were collected employing main approach/procedure of scanning, georeferencing, digitization, transformation and analysis in that order, to amalgamate and harmonize all datasets into one common projection and coordinate system （Universal Transverse Mercator （UTM） on Arc-Datum 1960）. Discrepancies in derived areas against recorded values in land registries were noted, smaller parcels exhibited smaller discrepancies and vice versa. Discrepancies were found to be directly proportional to the parcel areas/sizes although large parcels （〉 1000 m2） exhibited abnormally high discrepancies. This procedure yielded systematic discrepancies that could be minimized by use of a fifth order polynomial. Resultant residuals were found to be tolerably low and could be ignored for small parcels （〈 1000 m2）. Final outputs included automated GIs geodatabase cadastre, containing cadastral attributes harmonized to one projection and coordinate system that can be overlaid to other datasets from engineering design and construction work., geological and geotechnical investigation surveys, etc. tied to Remote sensing data without the requirement of further transformations.

Extensive studies have showed that alluvial gold mining is a predisposing factor for mercury toxicity through occupational exposure. In our systematic review of related literature, we aim to determine if children of alluvial gold miners were at risk.of exposure to methyl mercury toxicity through dietary exposure. This was achieved through applying Cochrane PICO methodology for the research question. We selected only the most relevant articles from the thousands of articles that were generated by the Divine Word University (DWU) electronic data base system for our review. Further screening questions were applied based on the CAsP method which filtered remaining 105 to only 9 papers for the review. The results from the nine (N = 9) studies analysed showed convincing results of the association between consumption of fish contaminated with methyl mercury and poor growth and development in children whose parents lived near mining sites. We conclude that since mercury is the predominant element used in the extraction of gold in alluvial mining, it is an exposure pathway for methyl mercury toxicity for children through dietary exposure.

Household Environment and Malaria in Pregnancy in Ibadan, Nigeria

Introduction: Malaria in pregnancy, which enormously creates substantial risk. for the mother and her fetus, is a public health problem in Nigeria. Design and Methods: Through questionnaire administration, this cross-sectional survey investigates the influence of the household environment on malaria preventive and treatment behaviors among 300 pregnant women in two selected areas of Oyo state, Nigeria. In addition, four focus group discussions and four in-depth interviews were conducted, all between October 2015 and March, 2016. Results: Findings from the study indicate a positive relationship between income level (P = 0.000), educational level (P = 0.000) and preventive behavior and perception of malaria. There, however, is a negative relationship (P = 0.122) between place of residence and number of malaria episodes of the respondents. A high awareness on the cause of Malaria was recorded in this study, while a low awareness on the consequences of malaria infection in Pregnancy was visible. Conclusion and Recommendation: The household environment of pregnant women was found a k.y predictor in the prevention and treatment of malaria in both rural and urban areas of Oyo state Nigeria. Nationwide programme aimed at reducing malaria especially among pregnant women is needed in Nigeria.

We start with analyzing stochastic dependence in a classic bivariate normal density framework. We focus on the way the conditional density of one of the random variables depends on realizations of the other. In the bivariate normal case this dependence tak.s the form of a parameter (here the “expected value”) of one probability density depending continuously (here linearly) on realizations of the other random variable. The point is, that such a pattern does not need to be restricted to that classical case of the bivariate normal. We show that this paradigm can be generalized and viewed in ways that allows one to extend it far beyond the bivariate or multivariate normal probability distributions class.
