Carbon allocation in Picea jezoensis:Adaptation strategies of a non-treeline species at its upper elevation limit

Understanding the physiological adaptations of non-treeline trees to environmental stress is important to understand future shifts in species composition and distribution of current treeline *** aim of the present study was to elucidate the mechanisms of the formation of the upper elevation limit of non-treeline tree species,Picea jezoensis,and the carbon allocation strategies of the species on Changbai *** employed the^(13)C in situ pulse labeling technique to trace the distribution of photosynthetically assimilated carbon in Picea jezoensis at different elevational positions(tree species at its upper elevation limit(TsAUE,1,700 m a.s.l.)under treeline ecotone;tree species at a lower elevation position(TsALE,1,400 m a.s.l.).We analyzed^(13)C and the non-structural carbohydrate(NsC)concentrations in various tissues following *** findings revealed a significant shift in carbon allocation in TsAUE compared to *** was a pronounced increase inδ^(13)C allocation to belowground components(roots,soil,soil respiration)in TsAUE compared to ***,the C flow rate within the plant-soil-atmosphere system was faster,and the C residence time in the plant was shorter in *** trends indicate enhanced C sink activity in belowground tissues in TsAUE,with newly assimilated C being preferentially directed there,suggesting a more conservative C allocation strategy by *** at higher elevations under harsher *** a strategy,prioritizing C storage in roots,likely aids in withstanding winter cold stress at the expense of aboveground growth during the growing season,leading to reduced growth of TsAUE compared to *** results of the present study shed light on the adaptive mechanisms governing the upper elevation limits of non-treeline trees,and enhances our understanding of how non-treeline species might respond to ongoing climate change.

Dialysis plays a crucial role in the purification of nanomaterials but its impact on the structural properties of carbon nanomaterials was never ***,a carbon-based nanomaterial generated electrochemically in potassium phosphate buffer,was characterized before and after dialysis against pure *** is shown that dialysis affects the size of the carbon domains,structural organization,surface functionalization,oxidation degree of carbon,and grade of ***,dialysis drives the nanomaterial organization from discrete roundish carbon domains,with sizes ranging from 70 to 160 nm,towards linear stacking structures of small nanoparticles （surface groups evolve into more oxidized carbon groups （e.g.,ketone and ester groups）.Investigation of the as-prepared nanomaterial by electron paramagnetic resonance （EPR） revealed a resonance signal consistent with carbon-oxygen centred ***,this study brings to light the selective affinity of the carbon nanomaterial under study to capture na+ions,a property greatly enhanced by the dialysis process,and its high ability to trap oxygen,particularly before *** findings open new perspectives for the application of carbon-based nanomaterials and raise awareness of the importance of structural changes that can occur during the purification of carbon-based nanomaterials.

The gut microbiota of migratory waterbirds is affected by various complex factors,including cross-species transmission,which increases the risk of pathogen spreading among sympatric animals and poses a potential public health risk to *** this study,we investigated the microbial communities of wintering Bean Geese(Anser fabalis),domestic Ducks(*** domesticus),humans,and soil using high-throughput sequencing of the 16s rRna gene region in shengjin Lake,*** total,6,046,677 clean reads were obtained,representing 41,119 operational taxonomic units(OTUs)across the four *** dominant microbial phyla were the Proteobacteria,Firmicutes,Bacteroidota,and *** sorensen similarity index and alpha and beta diversity results showed that the gut microbial communities of Bean Geese and domestic Ducks were more similar to those of the other *** analysis revealed that Faecalibacterium prausnitzii,Pseudomonas fragi,and Bradyrhizobium elkanii were hubs of the three major *** common microbiomes were iden-tified in Bean Geese,domestic Ducks,humans,and soil in shengjin Lake.A total of 96 potential pathogens were identified among the four groups,with 20 specific potentially pathogenic microbiomes found in the gut of Bean *** of these pathogens are responsible for significant financial losses in the poultry industry and pose risks to human *** pneumoniae,Morganella morganii,Escherichia coli,and Ralstonia insidiosa are potential core pathogens found in the four groups at shengjin Lake that can cause diseases in humans and an-imals and facilitate cross-species transmission through various ***,humans are at risk of con-tracting these pathogens from migratory birds because of their frequent contact with domestic ***,further studies are required to explore the potential pathogenic species and transmission pathways among sympatric wintering Bean Geese,domestic Ducks,humans,and soil.

This review addresses the growing interest for potassium-ion full-cells(KIFCs)in view of the transition from potassium-ion half-cells(KIHCs)toward commercial K-ion batteries(KIBs).It focuses on the key parameters of KIFCs such as the electrode/electrolyte interfaces challenge,major barriers,and recent advancements in *** strategies for enhancing KIFC performance,including interfaces co ntrol,electrolyte optimization,electrodes capacity ratio,electrode material screening and electrode design,are *** review highlights the need to evaluate KIBs in full-cell configurations as half-cell results are strongly impacted by the K metal *** also emphasizes the importance of understanding solid electrolyte interphase(sEI)formation in KIFCs and explores promising nonaqueous as well as quasiand all-solid-state electrolytes *** review thus paves the way for practical,cost-effective,and scalable KIBs as energy storage systems by offering insights and guidance for future research.

A novel approach for analyzing coupled vibrations between vehicles and bridges is presented,taking into account spatiotemporal effects and mechanical phenomena resulting fromvehicle *** modeling and solution of bridge vibrations induced by vehicle deceleration are realized using this *** method’s validity and reliability are substantiated through numerical examples.A simply supported beam bridge with a corrugated steel web is taken as an example and the effects of parameters such as the initial vehicle speed,braking acceleration,braking location,and road surface roughness on the mid-span displacement and impact factor of the bridge are *** results show that vehicle braking significantly amplifies mid-span displacement and impact factor responses in comparison to uniform vehicular motion across the ***,the influence of wheelto-bridge friction forces is of particular significance and cannot be *** the vehicle initiates braking near the middle of the span,both the mid-span displacement and impact factor of the bridge exhibit substantial increases,further escalating with higher braking *** favorable road surface conditions,the midspan displacement and the impact factor during vehicle braking may exceed the design values stipulated by *** is important to note that road surface roughness exerts a more pronounced effect on the impact factor of the bridge in comparison to the effects of vehicle braking.

Encrypted traffic identification pertains to the precise acquisition and categorization of data from traffic datasets containing imbalanced and obscured *** extraction of encrypted traffic attributes and their subsequent identification presents a formidable *** existing models have predominantly relied on direct extraction of encrypted traffic data from imbalanced datasets,with the dataset’s imbalance significantly affecting the model’s *** the present study,a new model,referred to as UD-VLD(Unbalanced Dataset-VAE-LsTM-DRN),was proposed to address above *** proposed model is an encrypted traffic identification model for handling unbalanced *** encoder of the variational autoencoder(VAE)is combined with the decoder and Long-short term Memory(LsTM)in UD-VLD model to realize the data enhancement processing of the original unbalanced *** enhanced data is processed by transforming the deep residual network(DRN)to address neural network gradient-related ***,the data is classified and *** UD-VLD model integrates the related techniques of deep learning into the encrypted traffic recognition technique,thereby solving the processing problem for unbalanced *** UD-VLD model was tested using the publicly available Tor dataset and VPN *** UD-VLD model is evaluated against other comparative models in terms of accuracy,loss rate,precision,recall,F1-score,total time,and ROC *** results reveal that the UD-VLD model exhibits better performance in both binary and multi classification,being higher than other encrypted traffic recognition models that exist for unbalanced ***,the evaluation performance indicates that the UD-VLD model effectivelymitigates the impact of unbalanced data on traffic *** can serve as a novel solution for encrypted traffic identification.
