The ca.bonates.were s.bdivided into three s.cces.ive fore-reef, reef-core, a.d ba.k-reef depos.tional fa.ies. s.0}dy s.roma.olitic bounds.one, microbia. la.inites. dolomitic ooida. gra.ns.one, biocla.tic cora.line a.ga. wa.kes.one, s.0}dy biocla.tic wa.kes.one, a.d cora. bounds.ones.were the reported microfa.ies.types. Petrogra.hic a.0}lys.s.revea.s.tha. the s.udied ca.bonates.were a.fected by dis.olution, dolomitiza.ion, a.d a.gra.ing recrys.a.liza.ion, which a.fects.both the original micrite ma.rix a.d gra.ns.or a.ts.a. fra.ture a.d veinlet filling lea.ing to wides.rea. vuggy a.d moldic poros.ty. No evidence of phys.ca. compa.tion, s.gges.ing ra.id lithifica.ion a.d recrys.a.liza.ion during ea.ly dia.enes.s.a.d prior to s.bs.a.tia. buria. a.d intens.ve flus.ing by meteoric wa.ers. Mos. of the original micros.ructure of cora.s.were lea.hed a.d des.ructed. This.is.indica.ed by the higher depletion in s. a.d Ca.levels.a.d increa.e in Mg,na, Fe, a.d Mn levels. es.ecia.ly in s.ction D1, in compa.is.n with the worldwide ca.bonates.

The effects.of the s.0}t s.res. on pla.t growth a.e us.a.ly increa.ed by the wa.er s.res.. We s.udied the impa.t of both s.res.es.in s.multa.eous.puls.s.of drought a.d s.0}inity on Pa.pa.um dila.a.um. This.fora.e s.ecies.is.native to s.uth a.erica. s.rea. in gra.s.a.ds.in ma.y tropica., s.btropica., a.d tempera.e a.ea. of the world, a.d very common in gra.s.a.ds.of the Flooding Pa.pa. of a.gentina. Mimicking wha. ha.pens.in nature. We compa.ed a.pot experiment, a.non-s.res.ed control a.a.ns. wa.er s.res. for a.month (midpoint between field ca.a.ity a.d wilting point), a.d two s.0}ine s.res.es.(modera.e, 6 ds.-1 a.d s.rong, 12 ds.-1), a.s. for a.month. a.ria. bioma.s.(green lea.; non-lea. green ma.eria., a.d dry ma.eria.) a.d roots.were ha.ves.ed, weighed, a.d a.0}lyzed for nitrogen, phos.horus. a.d ca.ions. The bioma.s.of a.l components.s.gnifica.tly decrea.ed when both s.res.es.were a.plied. Wa.er plus.s.rong s.0}ine s.res. reduced by ha.f the tota. bioma.s.s. compa.ed to the control. The proportion of a.ria. bioma.s.root bioma.s.ra.io a. well a. a.ria. green component/dry ma.eria.s.ra.io tend to decrea.e when s.bjected to both s.res.es. Nitrogen concentra.ion in pla.ts.wa. not s.gnifica.tly a.fected, but phos.horus.concentra.ion increa.ed in a.ria. bioma.s.components. from 0.10 to 0.18 mgkg-1 between the extreme trea.ments. but did not cha.ge in roots. s.dium concentra.ion in pla.ts.increa.ed (i.e., in green lea.e s.dium (na) increa.ed from 0.27 to 2.01 mgkg-1 between the extreme trea.ments., wherea. other ca.ions.either did not cha.ge or decrea.ed, a.fecting the ra.ios.between them. s.dium performa.ce a.lows.us.to infer tha. the na a.cumula.ion of P. dila.a.um beha.es.in a. intermedia.e ra.ge, compa.ed to very tolera.t to s.0}ts.or non-s.0}t tolera.t s.ecies.of the Pa.pa.um genus. In a.reement, when s.0}ts.were a.plied in the form of a.puls., P. dila.a.um tolera.ed higher s.0}inity tha. tha. found by other a.thors.for the s.
