In this study, a powder mixture with an Al/TiO2 molar ratio of 10/3 was used to form an r-Al2Ti intermetallic matrix composite （IMC） reinforced with α-Al2O3 ceramic by a novel milling technique, called discontinuous mechanical milling （DMM） instead of milling and ignition of the produced thermite. The results of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDX） and X-ray diffraction （XRD） of samples with varying milling time indicate that this fabrication process requires considerable mechanical energy. It is shown that Al2Ti-α-Al2O3 IMC with small grain size was produced by DMM after 15 h of ball milling. Peaks for γ-TLA1 as well as Al2Ti and Al2O3 are observed in XRD patterns after DMM followed by heat treatment. The microhardness of the DMM-treated composite produced after heat treatment was higher than Hv 700.

The progress of economic globalization,the rapid growth of international trade,and the maritime transportation has played an increasingly significant role in the international supply *** a result,worldwide seaports have suffered from a central problem,which appears in the form of massive amounts of fuel consumed and exhaust gas fumes emitted from the ships while *** ports have taken the necessary precautions to overcome this problem,while others still suffer due to the presence of technical and financial *** this paper,the barriers,interconnection standards,rules,regulations,power sources,and economic and environmental analysis related to ships,shore-side power were studied in efforts to find a solution to overcome his *** a case study,this paper investigates the practicability,costs and benefits of switching from onboard ship auxiliary engines to shore-side power connection for high-speed crafts called Alkahera while berthed at the port of Safaga,*** results provide the national electricity grid concept as the best economical selection with 49.03 percent of annual cost ***,environmentally,it could achieve an annual reduction in exhaust gas emissions of CO2,CO,NOx,P.M,and SO2by 276,2.32,18.87,0.825 and 3.84 tons,respectively.

Prediction of mode I fracture toughness(KIC) of rock is of significant importance in rock engineering analyses. In this study, linear multiple regression(LMR) and gene expression programming(GEP)methods were used to provide a reliable relationship to determine mode I fracture toughness of rock. The presented model was developed based on 60 datasets taken from the previous literature. To predict fracture parameters, three mechanical parameters of rock mass including uniaxial compressive strength(UCS), Brazilian tensile strength(BTS), and elastic modulus(E) have been selected as the input parameters. A cluster of data was collected and divided into two random groups of training and testing ***, different statistical linear and artificial intelligence based nonlinear analyses were conducted on the training data to provide a reliable prediction model of KIC. These two predictive methods were then evaluated based on the testing data. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed models for predicting the mode I fracture toughness of rock, various statistical indices including coefficient of determination(R2),root mean square error(RMSE), and mean absolute error(MAE) were utilized herein. In the case of testing datasets, the values of R2, RMSE, and MAE for the GEP model were 0.87, 0.188, and 0.156,respectively, while they were 0.74, 0.473, and 0.223, respectively, for the LMR model. The results indicated that the selected GEP model delivered superior performance with a higher R2value and lower errors.

Background: As the half-life of intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) is very low, it reflects parathyroid insufficiency within minutes to hours after total thyroidectomy. Therefore, iPTH level assessment in the postoperative period can be used to predict the development of hypocalcaemia. The optimal time point to measure serum iPTH is important for the accurate prediction of hypocalcaemia. Aim: This paper aims to evaluate the ability of iPTH as an early predictive marker of hypocalcaemia and determine which time iPTH is more able to predict postoperative hypocalcaemia. Method: This prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, BSMMU, Dhaka, from July 2020 to December 2021, with 67 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy. iPTH levels were measured on the day before the operation and at 1 hour, 4 hours, and 24 hours after the operation. *** levels were measured on the day before the operation and 1st postoperative day. All the data were compiled and sorted properly and were analyzed statistically. Results: Postoperative hypocalcaemia developed in 18 cases, with an incidence of 26.9%. Pearson correlation showed a significant correlation between postoperative iPTH at 1 hr, 4 h, and 24 hr with 1st postoperative calcium value. The Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was processed for the postoperative iPTH at 1 hr, 4 h, and 24 hr. The sensitivity, specificity, cut-off value, and mean AUC found 93.9%, 94.4%, ≤14.0, 0.988;95.9%, 94.4%, ≤09.5, 0.993 and 91.8%, 94.4%, ≤11.0, 0.993 respectively. Conclusion: iPTH can be used as an early predictor of post-thy-roidectomy hypocalcaemia. 4 hr iPTH showed more sensitivity and specificity for a cut-off value near the laboratory reference range.

This paper presents a methodology for automatically generating risk scenarios for dynamic reliability applications in which some dynamic characteristics(e.g.,the order,timing and magnitude of events,the value of relevant process parameters and initial conditions) have a significant influence on the evolution of the *** main idea of the methodology is:(i) making the system model "express itself" through simulation by having the model driven by an elaborated simulation engine;(ii) exploiting uniform design to pick out a small subset of representative design points from the space of relevant dynamic characteristics;(iii) for each selected design point,employing a depth-first systematic exploration strategy to cover all possible scenario branches at each branch point.A highly dynamic example adapted from the literature(a chemical batch reactor) is studied to test the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

The emergence of single-cell RNA-sequencing(scRNA-seq)technology has introduced new information about the structure of cells,diseases,and their associated biological *** of the main uses of scRNA-seq is identifying cell populations,which sometimes leads to the detection of rare cell ***,the new method is still in its infancy and with its advantages comes computational challenges that are just beginning to *** important tool in the analysis is dimensionality reduction,which transforms high dimensional data into a meaningful reduced *** technique allows noise removal,visualization and compression of high-dimensional *** paper presents a new dimensionality reduction approach where,during an unsupervised multistage process,a feature set including high valuable markers is created which can facilitate the isolation of cell *** proposed method,called fusion of the Spearman and Pearson affinity matrices(FSPAM),is based on a graph-based Gaussian *** of the graph theory can be effective to overcome the challenge of the nonlinear relations between cellular markers in scRNA-seq ***,with a proper fusion of the Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficient criteria,it extracts a set of the most important features in a new *** fact,the FSPAM aggregates the various aspects of cell-to-cell similarity derived from the Pearson and Spearman metrics,and reveals new aspects of cell-to-cell similarity,which can be used to extract new *** results of the identification of cell populations via k-means++clustering method based on the features extracted from the FSPAM and different datasets of scRNA-seq suggested that the proposed method,regardless of the characteristics that govern each dataset,enjoys greater accuracy and better quality compared to previous methods.

A methodology for automatically generating risk scenarios is *** main idea is to let the system model ＂express itself＂ through *** is achieved by having the simulation model driven by an elaborated simulation engine,which：（i） manipulates the generation of branch points,*** occurrence times;（ii） employs a depth-first systematic exploration strategy to cover all possible branch paths at each branch *** addition,a backtracking technique,as an extension,is implemented to recover some missed risk scenarios.A widely discussed dynamic reliability example（a holdup tank） is used to aid in the explanation of and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

The wide engineered application of compacted expansive soils necessitates understanding their behavior under field *** results of this study demonstrate how seasonal climatic variation and stress and boundary conditions individually or collectively influence the hydraulic and volume change behavior of compacted highly expansive *** cyclic wetting and drying(CWD)process was applied for two boundary conditions,*** stress(CS)and constant volume(CV),and for a wide range of axial stress *** adopted CWD process affected the hydraulic and volume change behaviors of expansive soils,with the first cycle of wetting and drying being the most *** CWD process under CS conditions resulted in shrinkage accumulation and reduction in saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat).On the other hand,CWD under CV conditions caused a reduction of swell pressure while has almost no impact on k *** elastic response to CWD was achieved after the third cycle for saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat),the third to fourth cycle for the volume change potential under the CV conditions,and the fourth to fifth cycle for the volume change potential under the CS ***,both swell pressure(s s)and saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat)are not fundamental parameters of the expansive soil but rather depend on stress,boundary and wetting conditions.

The COVID-19 pandemic poses an additional serious public health threat due to little or no pre-existing human immunity,and developing a system to identify COVID-19 in its early stages will save millions of *** study applied support vector machine(SVM),k-nearest neighbor(K-NN)and deep learning convolutional neural network(CNN)algorithms to classify and detect COVID-19 using chest X-ray *** test the proposed system,chest X-ray radiographs and CT images were collected from different standard databases,which contained 95 normal images,140 COVID-19 images and 10 SARS *** scenarios were considered to develop a system for predicting *** the first scenario,the Gaussian filter was applied to remove noise from the chest X-ray radiograph images,and then the adaptive region growing technique was used to segment the region of interest from the chest X-ray *** segmentation,a hybrid feature extraction composed of 2D-DWT and gray level co-occurrence matrix was utilized to extract the features significant for detecting *** features were processed using SVM and *** the second scenario,a CNN transfer model(ResNet 50)was used to detect *** system was examined and evaluated through multiclass statistical analysis,and the empirical results of the analysis found significant values of 97.14%,99.34%,99.26%,99.26%and 99.40%for accuracy,specificity,sensitivity,recall and AUC,***,the CNN model showed significant success;it achieved optimal accuracy,effectiveness and robustness for detecting COVID-19.

Compacted layers of expansive soils are used in different engineering projects,such as subgrades,engineered clay barriers,and buffers for radioactive waste *** layers are exposed to a variety of stresses and wetting conditions during field *** between hydraulic and mechanical repeated loading provides insight understanding to the induced progressive deformation of expansive *** study was conducted to investigate the hydromechanical behavior of unsaturated compacted expansive clay under repeated loadingeunloading(RLU)*** series of onedimensional(1D)oedometer tests were conducted under controlled matric suction up to 1500 kPa using the axis translation technique(Fredlund soil-water characteristic curve device,SWC-150).The first test series was carried out at different levels of controlled matric suction for non-repeated loading eunloading(NRLU)*** cycles were applied in the second test series at different repetitivestress levels and under different levels of matric *** results indicated increasing axial wetting strainε_(a)(s),axial swell pressure ss(s),compression index C_(c)(s),and swell index C_(s)(s)with suction *** estimated loadecollapse(LC)curves obtained from NRLU series(LCN)and RLU series(LCR)indicated increasing yield stress sy(s)with increasing *** is attributed to the developed apparent cohesion between soil particles,which in turn rigidifies the material *** repetitive loading induced a notable reduction of compression index C_(c)(s)at the same level of suction,whereas swell index C_(s)(s)seems to be independent of repetitive ***,repetitive loading exceeding initial yield stresses results in plastic hardening and,hence,enlargement of yield stress locus(*** curve).
