Identification of potential biomarkers of Peyronie's disease

Aim： To identity proteins that are differentially expressed in cells derived from normal and diseased tunica albuginea （TA） as related to Peyronie＇s disease （PD）. Methods： Cells with characteristics of fibroblasts were isolated from two tissue sources. Those from the plaque of patients with PD were designated as PT cells, and those from the normally- appearing TA of the same patients were designated as NT cells. Messenger RNAs of these cells were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） for the expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 （MCP-1）. Crude protein lysates were analyzed by surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry （SELDI-MS） with IMAC30-Cu, CM10, and H50 chips. Each lysate was then separated into six fractions, which were further analyzed by SELDI-MS. Results： RT- PCR analysis showed that PT cells expressed higher levels of MCP-1 than their counterpart NT cells. SELDI-MS analysis showed that the crude protein lysates of all four cell strains produced similar and reproducible protein profiles on IMAC30-Cu and CM 10 chips. Additional SELDI-MS analyses with the fractionated lysates detected three proteins of 11.6 kDa, 14.5 kDa, 22.6 kDa that were upregulated in PT cells and two proteins of 6.3 kDa and 46,9 kDa that were downregulated in PT cells. Conclusion： MCP-1, which is often involved in tissue fibrosis, was expressed at higher levels in PT than that in NT cells. Five potential biomarkers for PD were identified by SELDI-MS analysis. （Asian j Androl 2005 Sep; 7： 237-243）

The aims of this work turn towards the valorization of the underutilized Raw Sugar Beet Pulp by-product to produce white Cellulose Microfibers(CMFs),and its potential effect as a reinforcement for the development of High-Density Polyethylene(HDPE)*** CMFs were first obtained by subjecting raw SBP to alkali and bleaching *** characterization techniques were performed to confirm the successful removal of the amorphous compounds from the surface of individual fibers,including SEM,XRD,TGA,and FT-IR *** CMF loadings(5–10 wt%)were incorporated as bio-fillers into HDPE polymer to evaluate their reinforcing ability in comparison to raw and alkali-treated SBP using twin-screw extrusion followed by injection ***–(Ethylene–Butene)–Styrene Three-Block Co-Polymer Grafted with Maleic Anhydride was used as a compatibilizer to improve the interfacial adhesion between fibers and the ***,mechanical,and rheological properties of the produced composite samples were *** was found that the Young’s modulus were gradually increased with increasing of fibers loadings,with a maximum increase of 30%and 26%observed for composite containing 10 wt%of CMFs and raw SBP,respectively,over neat ***,the use of coupling agent enhances the ductile behavior of the *** was also found that all fiber improves the hardness and toughness behavior of all reinforced composites as well as the complex modulus particularly at 10 wt%.The thermal stability slightly increases with the addition of *** study demonstrates a new route for the valorization of SBP *** fibers can be considered as a valuable bio-fillers candidate for the development of composite materials with enhanced properties.

Non-traumatic osteonecrosis is a cause of joint pain and deformity, not uncommonly caused by corticosteroid use. Despite this, corticosteroid induced osteonecrosis is poorly represented in the literature. We performed a detailed review of corticosteroid induced osteonecrosis, including aetiology, prevention, screening, clinical presentation, investigations, staging systems and trea.ment. We present this in the context of a patient at our institution who developed bilateral hip, shoulder and knee osteonecrosis following high dose corticosteroid therapy for dermatomyositis.

Contribution to the understanding of the performance differences between commercial current collectors in Li–S batteries

Lithium–sulfur batteries have been recognised as highly promising next-generation batteries, due to their low cost and high theoretical energy density. Despite numerous advances in this technology over the last decade, its commercialisation is still a challenge that has not yet been achieved. Many efforts have been made to improve the problems that these batteries present, mainly by investigating different cathode manufacturing strategies, testing novel Li anodes, new additives in the electrolytes, and modified separators or interlayers. However, the characteristics of the current collectors used in the preparation of the electrodes have been rarely addressed. Three commercial collectors are commonly used in basic research on Li–S batteries: Al foil, carbon coated Al foil (Al-C), and carbon paper (gas diffusion layer, GDL). In this work, a detailed study of the electrochemical response of these commercial collectors has been carried out. The tests were carried out on two S composites formed by carbons of a different natures, commercial carbon black and synthetic N-doped graphene. In addition, the S impregnation method was different, using either melt diffusion at 155 ℃ or ethylenediamine as S solvent, respectively. In both systems, the results were similar – the electrodes supported on GDL delivered higher specific capacities than those supported on Al and Al-C, with minimal differences between the two. Of the different collector properties examined to explain this behaviour, namely Al corrosion, electrical conductivities, surface-level composition, and surface texture, only the latter had a significant effect in the performance of GDL-based electrodes. SEM images revealed a rough and cracked surface formed by the agglomerated carbon particles that give rise to a complex pore system, predominantly consisting of macropores. Dynamical Behavior of an Atomic Beam Interacting with a Fock State Light Field

The collapse and revival of evolution with photon number of population inversion in the case of an atomic beam with velocity distribution interacting with a single-mode and Fock-state light field is investigated by full quantum theory. Compared to the previously reported coherent state case [Li B and Chen j B Chin. Phys. Lett. 26（2009）123203], which was induced by evolution with coupling strength of population inversion, in the case under consideration there exists Poisson distribution of photon numbers and atomic velocity distribution in the beam. Moreover, we prove that above, the collapse and revival have an analogy with conventional collapse and revival [Eberly j H et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 44（1980）1323] in both the mathematical expression and physical significance.

An unexpected large continental source of reactive bromine and chlorine with significant impact on wintertime air quality

Halogen atoms affect the budget of ozone and the fate of pollutants such as hydrocarbons and *** their sources and significances in polluted continental regions are poorly understood. Here we report the observation of unprecedented levels(averaging at 60 parts per trillion) of bromine chloride(Br Cl) at a mid-latitude site in North China during winter. Widespread coal burning in rural households and a photo-assisted process were the primary source of BrCl and other bromine gases. BrCl contributed about55% of both bromine and chlorine atoms. The halogen atoms increased the abundance of ‘conventional’tropospheric oxidants(OH, HO2and RO2) by 26%–73%, and enhanced oxidation of hydrocarbon by nearly a factor of two and the net ozone production by 55%. Our study reveals the significant role of reactive halogen in winter atmospheric chemistry and the deterioration of air quality in continental regions where uncontrolled coal combustion is prevalent.

Lithium(Li) metal is considered as the most promising anode material for the next-generation high performance Li ***,the uncontrollable dendritic growth impedes its commercial ***,we design a 3 D Si@carbon nanofibers(CNFs)@ZnO-ZnO-Cu skeleton(SCZ) for guiding the homogeneous bottom-growth of Li *** top LixSi@CNFs and bottom LiyZn@CNFs layers could form conductivity and overpotential gradient to avoid the "top-growth" of Li ***,the top lithiophilic LixSi@CNFs layer could regulate the nucleation and deposition of Li-ions even if the lithium dendrites grow out of the skeleton under high capacity Li deposition(30 mAh cm^(-2)).As a result,the SCZ-Li||LiFePO_(4) full cell delivers a high capacity of ~104 mAh g^(-1)(~94.82% capacity retention) after 2000 cycles at 5 C, elucidating the potential application of the 3 D double-gradient Li metal composite anode.

Estimation of tungsten production from the upper divertor in EAST during edge localized modes

During edge localized modes(ELMs), the sheath evolution in front of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST) upper divertor is studied to estimate the sputtered tungsten(W) atoms from the divertor target. A large potential drop across the sheath is formed during ELMs by compared with inter-ELMs, and the maximum of sheath potential drop can exceed one thousand of e V in current EAST operation. Due to the enhancement of the sheath potential drop during ELMs, the W physical sputtering yield from the deuterium(D) ions and the impurity ions on the upper divertor target is found to be significant. It is established that the sputtered W yield during ELMs is at least higher by an order of magnitude than inter-ELMs, and D ions and carbon(C) ions are the main ions governing the W production for the current H-mode with ELMs discharges. With increase in the pedestal electron temperature, the maximum of the D and C ion impact energy during ELMs shows a nearly linear increase, and the D ions have sufficient impact energy to cause the strong W physical sputtering. As a consequence, the D ions may dominate the sputtered W flux from the divertor target when the C concentration is controlled less than one percent for the higher heating power H-mode with ELM discharges in near future.
