Complement-dependent neuroinflammation in spinal cord injury:from pathology to therapeutic implications

Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

Effect of Conductive Fillers on the Cyclic Stress-Strain and Nano-Scale Free Volume Properties of Silicone Rubber

The effect of carbon black （CB） and graphite （G） powders on the macroscopic and nano-scale free volume properties of silicone rubber based on poly（di-methylsiloxane）（PdmS） was studied through thermal and cyclic mechanical measurements, as well as with positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy （PALS）. The melting temperature of the composites （Tm） and the endothermic enthalpy of melting （ΔHm） were estimated by differential scanning calorimetry （dSC）. Tm and the degree of crystallinity （χc） of PdmS composites were found to decrease with increasing the CB content. This can be explained due to the increase in physical cross-linking which results in a decrease in the crystallite thickness. Besides, χc was found to be dependent on the filler type. Cyclic stress-strain behavior of PdmS loaded with different contents of filler has been studied. mullins ratio （Rm） was found to be dependent on the filler type and content. It was found that, Rm increases with increasing the filler content due to the increase in physical cross-linking which results in a decrease in the size of free volume, as observed through a decrease of the o-Ps lifetime τ3 measured by PALS. moreover, the hysteresis in PdmS-CB composites was more pronounced than in PdmS-G composites. Furthermore, a correlation was established between the free volume Vf and the mechanical properties of PdmS composites containing different fillers. A negative correlation was observed between Vf and Rm.

Simulation of a molten salt fast reactor using the COmSOL multiphysics software

In this study,COmSOL v5.2 multiphysics software was utilized to perform coupled neutronics and thermal–hydraulics simulations of a molten salt fast reactor,and the SCALE v6.1 code package was utilized to generate the homogenized cross-section data *** library’s 238 cross-section groups were categorized into nine groups for the simulations in this *** results of the COmSOL model under no fuel flow conditions were verified using the SCALE v6.1 code results,and the results of the neutronics and thermal–hydraulics simulations were compared to the results of previously published *** results indicated that the COmSOL model that includes the cross-section library generated by the SCALE v6.1 code package is suitable for the steady-state analysis and design assessment of molten salt fast ***,this model was utilized to investigate the neutronics and thermal–hydraulics behaviors of the *** designs were simulated and analyzed in this model,and the results indicated that even if the wall of the core is curved,hot spots occur in the upper and lower portions of the core’s center near the reflectors.A new design was proposed that utilizes a flow rate distribution system,and the simulation results of this design showed that the maximum temperature in the core was approximately 1032 K and no hot spots occurred.

Entropy per Rapidity in Pb-Pb Central Collisions using Thermal and Artificial Neural Network(ANN)models at LHC Energies

The entropy per rapidity dS/dy produced in central Pb-Pb ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions at LHC energies is calculated using experimentally identified particle spectra and source radii estimated from Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) correlations for particles π, k, p, Λ, Ω, and ∑ and π, k, p, Λ, and K^(0)_(s) at √s =2.76 and 5.02 TeV, respectively. An artificial neural network (ANN) simulation model is used to estimate the entropy per rapidity dS/dy at the considered energies. The simulation results are compared with equivalent experimental data, and a good agreement is achieved. A mathematical equation describing the experimental data is obtained. Extrapolation of the transverse momentum spectra at pT =0 is required to calculate dS/dy;thus, we use two different fitting functions, the Tsallis distribution and hadron resonance gas (HRG) model. The success of the ANN model in describing the experimental measurements leads to the prediction of several spectra values for the mentioned particles, which may lead to further predictions in the absence of experiments.

A growth model for a hyalid amphipod Hyale perieri in the coastal water of Alexandria(Egypt)

The growth rate of the hyalid amphipod Hyale perieri was studied on the bases of Ikeda'sgrowth model which is based on the inter moult period (IP) and moult increament (△BL). To apply this approach, laboratory experiments were carried out at three temperatures regimes (15℃, 20℃, 25℃ ) to gain accurate data of IP and BL. The total number of specimens used in this study was 86 at 15℃ , 24 at 20℃ and 70 at 25℃. The number of flagellar segments of both antennae of the Hyale perieri could not be used as an index of growth (instar criterion). The obtained results indicated that, the predicted IP of the specimens was inversely related to temperature and in good agreement with the observed values at the experimental temperatures. IP data obtained from laboratory-reared specimes are combined with ABL data to establish a growth model for Hyale perieri from its release from the mar-supium (1.64 mm BL ) to the maximum size (12.67 mm BL) as a function of temperature. The maximum numbers of consecutive moults recorded during the experiment were 13 moults (14 instar) at 15℃, 14 moults (15 instar) at 20℃ and 12 moults (13 instar) at 25℃ . The predicted life span for BL = 12.67 mm (moult 13) was 203.82 d at 15t, for BL = 11.75 mm (moult 14) was 138.94 d at 20℃ and for BL = 8.65 mm (moult 12) was 75.40 d at 25℃ respectively, thus confirming that the life span of the species is inversely proportional to temperature. Within the experimental temperatures tested, the optimum temperature for the growth of the species was 20℃.

Annual performance analysis of different maximum power point tracking techniques used in photovoltaic systems

This paper presents an annual performance evaluation of three maximum power point tracking (mPPT) methods. The used mPPT techniques (Perturb and Observe, Incremental Inductance and Sliding mode) are evaluated under an annual data of atmospheric conditions of the target site. The main contribution of this work is to consider real fluctuation conditions of solar irradiations, ambient temperatures and wind velocities. It was found that the Sliding mode provides higher energy yields independently of the period. Compared to the basic P&O and the IC techniques, sliding mode has the potential of generating up to 8.18% more electrical energy than other techniques.

Water equivalence of some 3d dosimeters:a theoretical study based on the effective atomic number and effective fast neutron removal cross section

Effective atomic numbers for photon energy absorption(ZPEA_(eff)) and their corresponding electron numbers (NPEA_(eff)), and effective macroscopic removal cross sections of fast neutrons(RR) were calculated for 27 different types of three-dimensional dosimeters, four types of phantom materials, and water. The values of ZPEA_(eff) and NPEA_(eff) were obtained using the direct method for energies ranging from 10 keV to 20 meV. Results are presented relative to water, for direct comparison over the range of examined energies. The effect of monomers that are used in polymer gel dosimeters on the water equivalence is discussed. The relation between Σ_R and hydrogen content was studied. micelle gel dosimeters are highly promising because our results demonstrate perfect matching between the effective atomic number, electron density number, and fast neutron attenuation coefficient of water.

Effect of Some Heterocyclic derivatives on the Removal of Copper Ions from Wastewater by Cementation

Removal of copper ions from copper sulphate solutions on a rotating zinc rod in absence and in presence of 3(2H)-furanones and 4H-pyran-4-one derivatives was investigated experimentally. Variables studied were initial copper ions concentration, rotational speed of the zinc rod, temperature and concentration of organic additives. It was found that cementation reaction is first order in presence and in absence of additives. Increasing concentration of initial copper ions, rotational speed of the zinc rod and temperature were found to increase the rate of cementation. In presence of organic additives an enhancement of the rate was observed, except in presence of methoxyfuranone the rate was found to decrease by an amount ranging from 11.74% to 33.79%. Rate acceleration or inhibition is associated mainly with changes in the structure of the additives as well as its concentration. The apparent activation energy for the cementation process in presence of different additives was estimated and was found to be ranged between 11.8 kJ/mol and 25.95 kJ/mol. These values suggest that the copper removal process in presence of these additives is controlled by diffusion. A scanning electron microscopy study of copper deposits obtained in presence of tolylfuranone, phenylpyrone and methoxyfuranone correlate with their behaviour during the kinetic study. different reaction conditions and the physical properties of solutions were studied to obtain dimensionless correlation among all these parameters. It was found that on applying cementation reaction on a sample from industrial wastewater in presence of phenylpyrone about 91.9% of Cu2+ are removed.
